Lady Gaga in custom Ralph Lauren at the BAFTAs: surprisingly great?

Lady Gaga went to London to attend the BAFTAs as a nominee for House of Gucci. This was her biggest nomination and she wanted to do it right. I would assume this means she probably won’t attend the Oscars! In any case, Gaga wore a rich green Ralph Lauren Collection gown, which was a custom look. Honestly, it’s a great gown and she looked good in it. She still lost though.

After the BAFTAs, the Critics Choice held some kind of satellite reception in London, so that people who were nominated at the CCAs could give speeches and party. It must have been so late in London! But anyway, Gaga changed out of her Ralph Lauren and into this horrid look. Gaga giveth and Gaga taketh away.

Salma Hayek wore Gucci and Boucheron jewelry to the BAFTAs. This is kind of matronly and fussy for Salma?

Naomi Campbell in Burberry. This is a much better example of how to do velvet on the red carpet and not look matronly.

Emilia Jones (the star of CODA) in Atelier Versace. It’s very… gold. It’s fine. She’s very young and this will not be her first time on the BAFTA carpet.

I love Jessie Buckley so much and I think she’s so crazy-talented. I even love this Alexander McQueen look with the pants. But her hair! Gah, her hair.

I think Salma’s dress would look really good were it not for the lace. I think the neckline and cuffs are what take it from a pretty velvet dress to matronly. Naomi looks gorgeous though, I am a sucker for black velvet and that dress is stunning on her.

When I saw the headline of this post about Lady Gaga, I thought you were referring to the Critics Choice dress (that was the only dress I saw on twitter last night briefly) and I thought “oh no no no, Kaiser, what are you thinking? It’s awful!” then I realized you were talking about a different dress and I admit the Ralph Lauren is really great. The critics choice dress….not so much.

Love Gaga’s green dress but her hair and makeup is too harsh, IMO. And that second dress is one of the worst ever.
    Naomi’s looks good.

Gaga’s BAFTA dress was so much better than the Critic’s Choice monstrosity. Emilia’s dress was exquisite when she moved. She wore something else when she sang. The whole back of Salma’s dress was sheer lace.

Gaga’s second dress is the worst red carpet dress I’ve seen in years. Also, it’s always jarring for me, someone old enough to remember Gaga’s original face, to see how she’s completely changed. For someone who preached self-acceptance, she sure didn’t practice it.

    • Sarah says:

Agreed – her face looks so strange, she is almost unrecognizable. And does she hate her boobs? Both dresses seem to be attacking them. ouch!

    • shanaynay says:

Agreed! Her face does look very strange. At a quick glance, it’s almost bit scary looking

    • Barbie1 says:

It sure scared me. Did she change her teeth again? Both Gaga dresses are unflattering to her bust. Naomi looks good. Salma never seems to get it right on the red carpet.

      • AMJ says:

She often does her boobs disservice with her fashion. I really don’t get it. Also, I bet her face isn’t done changing. Next year we won’t be able to tell her from Dua Lipa.

Isn’t Gaga listed as a presenter at this year’s Oscars? I assume she will attend if that’s the case.

  6. Tiffany :) says:

Gaga’s presenting at the Oscars, so she’ll be there.

The green dress is so gorgeous! The second dress is the most hideous dress ever made. It’s like the full spectrum of fashion in 2 gowns.

  7. Amy Bee says:

Why didn’t Gaga just wear the RL dress to the Critics Choice?

  8. Elle says:

    Gaga’s face is too distracting.

I don’t think Salma Hayak’s dress is matronly, unless you are thinking New Jersey shore matronly circa 1980. The squeezed girls, high shoulders, not to mention 80’s velvet and lace, I just can’t. Also, in the matronly or more accurately motherly sense, I want to take Emilia Jones shoulders and push them back so she doesn’t look so slumped over. I think she looks great, but her posture is killing me, especially when on this story she is right after Naomi Campbell who has perfect posture. Amal Clooney does this a lot too, and it bugs me so. Oh and Jessie Buckley who I also love and think is amazingly talented, please tell me you didn’t pay a lot for that haircut. I’m fairly certain I had that same haircut for kindergarten pictures in the 70’s and I hated my Mom for making me endure that, and it’s still a childhood trauma. Oddly I agree the outfit is not that bad, and I haven’t liked McQueen much lately. The hair just overtakes it. All I can say about Gaga is it’s like a show on what not to wear with what to wear, how odd.

Gaga’s CC dress is one of the worst dresses I’ve ever seen. I love her, but her face is pulled sooo tight. It looks weird. And paired with that horrid dress…. It’s shockingly awful.

  11. Case says:

    Gaga looks great in green.

I watched House of Gucci this weekend and was actually stunned at how bad it was. I didn’t think Gaga’s performance was worth the hype whatsoever (honestly, I thought Jeremy Irons and Adam Driver were the only actors among them actually taking it seriously). It was jarring to watch this after enjoying Ridley Scott’s other film from 2021, The Last Duel, and thinking it was one of the best films of the gear. Gucci was poorly edited, wildly varied in tone, and didn’t even make sense at times without background information. So weird.

I really like Gaga’s green dress except it’s not flattering in the boob area. Not a fan of her hair and make-up.

I generally dislike velvet but Naomi is actually pulling that off, it helps that she’s so beautiful and has glorious posture. I don’t mind the colour of Salma’s dress but the velvet and lace combination is fusty and old-fashioned.

I think Jessie Buckley’s hair is like that because she’s currently starring in Cabaret in London. She has a phenomenal singing voice.

Gaga’s boob mittens feel apocalypse-adjacent. Like what they were wearing during the fall of Rome. Only lead in the acqueduct can explain this. Lol
