Billie Lourd wore a custom Rodarte gown for her Cabo beach wedding

Billie Lourd is the 29-year-old actress daughter of Bryan Lourd and the late Carrie Fisher. Billie keeps it pretty lowkey, but in recent days, her name was all over People Magazine. Billie got married! She married her fiance Austen Rydell in Cabo San Lucas over the weekend. They already have a son together, one-year-old Kingston Fisher. Billie’s dad was there and sources confirmed to People that Bryan Lourd “paid for a block of rooms at the hotel venue for all guests.” It was a wedding AND a pool party. Which sounds amazing.

I was waiting to talk about the wedding until we got some good photos of Billie’s dress. It’s a good dress! It suits her. It’s a custom Rodarte, with a fluffy tulle skirt and an off-the-shoulder neckline. It seems Billie was very focused on adding touches to her wedding look which reminded her of her mom. SOB.

In an exclusive interview with Vogue, Lourd shared that she first was introduced to Rodarte’s designers, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, after they interviewed her late mom, Carrie Fisher, in 2014.

“I immediately fell in love,” Lourd told Vogue. “So when I started thinking about who I wanted to design my wedding dress, they were the first people who came to mind. I have always been a massive fan of their work and thought their elegant, ethereal, unique style was a perfect fit for my — kind of —elegant, ethereal, unique personality. I also felt a strong connection to them because of their connection to my mom and because they are California gals just like me!”

Lourd met with the Rodarte design team at the brand’s downtown L.A studio where they started to make her dream dress a reality.

“We got married on the beach at sunset, so I really wanted something that reflected the vibe of the ocean-y setting,” she said. “We decided to make the underlayer of the dress out of sequins. The underlayer of my personality is also made of sequins, so it just felt right. The dress came out even better than I could’ve ever imagined, and I feel so beyond grateful to Laura and Kate for making it all happen.”

The bride’s René Mancini shoes were also reminiscent of her mom, who died in 2016 at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack. In fact, her dad Bryan Lourd picked them out because “they reminded him of the shoes my mom used to wear in the ’90s,” Lourd told Vogue. And her bridal jewelry packed the same sentiment.

In addition to her engagement ring — the diamond which Rydell had reset from a ring that her dad proposed to her mom with — Lourd also wore a pair of vintage Neil Lane diamond studs from her dad as her “something old.” For her “something blue,” she wore her mom’s favorite ring, a blue fire opal, according to Vogue.

I started crying at the jewelry part. Her engagement ring is made from her mom’s engagement ring, the gifted earrings from her dad and a blue opal ring which belonged to her mom? GAH. That’s lovely. I love all of these little touches and I imagine Billie probably cried a lot on her wedding day.

The dress is very pretty. For a custom job, it looks a lot like the dresses on Say Yes to the Dress. I’m not saying that to be shady! Billie got what she wanted and that’s what counts!

It’s lovely and so sentimental. She kept her mom there even though she didn’t have a body. Beautiful.

Billie seems very happy here and in the rest of her life. (And the dress is stunning!) I wish that health and joy for her always. She comes from a pretty tumultuous lineage, so if she broke the cycle, good for her.
