The Flight Attendant season two is premiering on April 21st with a new setting

Spoilers for season one of The Flight Attendant
The Flight Attendant premiered on HBO Max in late 2020. I was never into Big Bang Theory  and was therefore ambivalent about Kaley Cuoco, so I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked The Flight Attendant. What can I say, I just love a good caper. And the international travel, fashion, and New York nightlife were just what I was missing during that time. (The first season completed most of its filming in a pre-lockdown world and then shut down production for months before finishing the last two episodes).

The first season focused on a murder mystery that Kaley’s character, Cassie, probably would’ve solved a lot sooner if not for her alcoholism. After wrapping up the central mystery with an unexpected CIA twist, Cassie gets sober. Most things were  wrapped up neatly enough that the show could have ended there, but luckily there were just enough dangling threads for a second season. It’s going to premiere on HBO Max next month and they’ve released a trailer. Here’s more on the next season:

The first trailer for the second season of the acclaimed series The Flight Attendant teases the continuing adventures of Kaley Cuoco as Cassie Bowden, as well as reveals when the highly anticipated HBO Max show will return. Audiences do not have to wait too long for the return of The Flight Attendant, with the second season due to premiere on April 21 with the first two episodes.

The Flight Attendant Season 2 picks up with Cassie Bowden (Kaley Cuoco) now living her best sober life in Los Angeles while moonlighting as a CIA asset in her spare time. But when an overseas assignment leads her to inadvertently witness a murder, she becomes entangled in another international intrigue.

The return of The Flight Attendant sees the likes of Zosia Mamet, Griffin Matthews, Deniz Akdeniz, Rosie Perez, T.R. Knight, Yasha Jackson, and Audrey Grace Marshall come back for more while introducing newcomers Mo McRae, Callie Hernandez, and JJ Soria, as well as recurring guest stars Alanna Ubach, Cheryl Hines, Jessie Ennis, Mae Martin, Margaret Cho, Santiago Cabrera, Sharon Stone, and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

[From Movieweb]

With Cassie getting sober and the main mystery solved in the season finale, I did kind of wonder where the show could go next since her drinking set the whole thing in motion. Surely sober Cassie would have a much calmer life? But no, Cassie is working for the CIA, but is still as hapless as ever with the same high strung energy, so hijinks will definitely ensue. The show looks as fast-paced as the first season and I quite enjoyed the camera work and split-screen editing. It also looks like we’ll finally find out more about Rosie Perez’s character and there are some new characters to go with the new CIA side hustle and location. Because of my aforementioned nostalgia, I’m a bit disappointed they moved the show to California to take advantage of the tax incentives, but a change of scenery will be interesting and goes with the fresh start idea.

The trailer also makes it look like Cassie might slip with her sobriety? That would make sense because it’s a difficult thing and I’m sure they could make it work narratively without being gratituous, but please no more blue-lit bunny flashbacks. They also cast Sharon Stone as Cassie’s mother, so that may be a factor as well. Either way, Kaley Cuoco will sell it. This role is perfect for her (her production company optioned the book) and honestly made me like her a lot more as an actress and overall. I thought Big Bang Theory was dumb and she was basic, but she’s actually very watchable, funny and a surprisingly good dramatic actress. I admit it – I was wrong about Kaley Cuoco. I am really looking forward to the premiere of this show. I only wish they were doing the same cadence of releasing three episodes, two, two, and then the finale, as they did for the first season.

I had the exact same experience with Kaley Cuoco. Never cared for BBT but KC was a revelation. Such good timing, comic and dramatic and the show is just fun eoth fashion, travel and interesting characters. I urge everyone to watch season 1. A fresh and fun bit of brain candy!

I’m looking forward to season 2! I never cared for her either, but the show changed my mind. And the rest of the cast is great as well.

  3. Trina says:

I always loved her, I’m a big Penny fan. So I was rooting for her. She still managed to blow me away in TFA. Just fantastic.

  4. Sally says:

Cuoco has excellent comedic timing and the ability to bring a certain lightness to otherwise dire scenes and it all came together perfectly in this. It was a great first season, I hope they keep up the quality and also keep the music, this series introduced me to Sofi Tukker four years late and I’m very grateful.

  5. Bettyrose says:

The first season was entirely based on the book, which was total fluff but a fun read. Now that she’s sober, I’m curious where they’ll go with the character.

I’ve always liked Kaley Cuoco. She a bit extra at times but it seems to work for her. I don’t have HBOMax and keep forgetting about The Flight Attendent.

I’m signing up with HBOmax as soon as I’m off CB. I’ve missed The Gilded Age also and I never miss anything with Christine Baranski.

  7. Christine says:

I think they should have left it as a limited series. So many shows try to squeeze out extra seasons and it ruins the entire thing. The story was wrapped up. Leave it alone.

  8. Kate says:

I loved this show! Can’t wait!!

I’m in it for Sharon Stone!
