Kim Kardashian offers a faux-apology for her tone-deaf ‘get up & work’ comment

Here are some photos of Kim Kardashian at the Vanity Fair Oscar party on Sunday night. Kim wore a turquoise Balenciaga dress which… well, I’m sure it’s expensive. I actually think this electric blue looks great on Kim, I just wish she would do something other than body-con and plain-ass designs. I kind of wonder if she went so “plain” on the dress to better highlight those absolutely insane Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings. It’s been a while since she’s stepped out all iced up.

Meanwhile, Kim has finally gotten around to trying to clean up her idiotic, privileged comments to Variety several weeks ago. In the family’s Variety cover profile, Kim told the magazine: “I have the best advice for women in business. Get your f**king ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days….You have to surround yourself with people that want to work.” Now, in a new Good Morning America interview, Kim apologizes and says we were missing some context. Robin Roberts repeated her quote back to her and Kim explained:

“Well, that statement that I said was without questions and conversation around it… It became a sound bite really with no context. And that sound bite I came off the notion and the question right before which was after 20 years of being in the business you’re famous for being famous. And my whole tone and attitude changed with the previous question that went into that question about what advice would you give to women.”

Kardashian then shared the true advice that she meant to give during the interview.

“The advice that I would give is just that having a social media presence and being on a reality show does not mean overnight success,” she said. “And you have to really work hard to get there, even if it might seem like it’s easy and that you can build a really successful business off of social media. And you can, if you put in a lot of really hard work.”

Kardashian explained that she never intended to put women down with her original comment, saying: “It wasn’t a blanket statement towards women or to feel like I don’t respect the work or think that they don’t work hard. I know that they do. It was taken out of context. But I’m really sorry if it was received that way.”

[From People]

Yeah, that was not an apology. “It was taken out of context” and “I’m sorry if it was received that way” are not real apologies. I don’t even think Kim’s new “context” provides much more insight into what she said to Variety. She was asked her advice for young businesswomen, and that was her advice. Get off your ass and work. There’s no context that makes “It seems like nobody wants to work these days” sound better if you’re Kim F–king Kardashian.

Why the boob seams on this dress? Designers seemed to have done boobs dirty this season.

    • Genevieve says:

I wondered as well. Then I thought maybe it’s a built in bra situation.

    • Kaye says:

@Moss – I decided maybe the boob piece and arms/gloves are all one section of the outfit with the rest going on separately. I still can’t imagine being completely encased in clothing like this. I’m sure I would have a claustrophobic attack just trying to get it on.

    • wordnerd says:

I had a baby 3 weeks ago and am in full breastfeeding mode, so when I saw the boob seams I thought, “oh nice nursing top!” 😂 clearly I need more sleep…

    • Moss says:

OMG I just noticed that the line at the waist isn’t a seam, it’s VPL!!!!

    • Myjobistoprincess says:

It was to create more boob definition. But the outfit seems to be somewhat backless so girl had to define the boobs without a conventional bra and it wasnt so great.

  2. Lucy2 says:

Wasn’t there a video of this whole thing? Spare me the “out of context“ nonsense. I believe she meant every word she said.

    • minx says:

      Yes. She’s full of it.

    • Emma says:

Yes and the journalist who interviewed them said there was no such context, that Kim wasn’t asked about “being famous for being famous” until after she said these comments about work. She said it was just a direct question to Kim.

Kim has a mean-girl, flippant side that came out there. She’s trying to backtrack now for … her brand, probably. Not because she actually comprehends the struggles of the average working women in this country.

      • lucy2 says:

Yeah I think we saw a bit of “real Kim” there. The backlash was pretty swift and unanimous, and lots of people had personal receipts on her and her family’s businesses, especially the unpaid intern jobs they did to exploit people for their free labor. Funny how none of them had any response to that.

      • Lena says:

Yes she’s a liar. Her “advice” was in response to a direct question – what advice would you give businesswomen today? and the mention about her being famous for being famous came out later. All this complaining of being taken out of context celebrities do all the time means nothing – you said what you said. Own up to it being stupid.

      • Otaku fairy says:

        Yep. Pretty much.

  3. Tempest says:

Why would anyone care about Kim Kardasian’s opinion on anything? I just don’t get it.

  4. cabooklover says:

The boobs seams need to go. The sunglasses need to go. The gloves need to go. Why is she always wearing gloves these days, ugh. The colour is gorgeous, but that dress is so plain. And yeah the train looks stunning in photos, but what a pain in the ass to deal with all night long.

    • Emma says:

Yes — can the “gloves” look end please? lol

    • Haapa says:

These 90’s sunglasses that her (and others) keep trying to bring back in style… she looks like she’s about to film a rambling rant in her pickup.

      • SarahCS says:

I hate these sunglasses with a fiery passion and really wish she would stop putting versions of them with every outfit. They are truly horrible.

As for the rest of it, she clearly meant it and is trying to do some (weak) damage control. This is what she believes.

  5. LadySwampwitchGivsNeauFux says:

She should probably mention sex tapes and plastic surgery if she wants us to listen at all. Personally I think she’s just another POS. The Kardashians are an embarrassment and a terrible example to set for people.

  6. Colby says:

    Yeaaaaaah doesn’t change anything, Kim.

You were born on 3rd and continue to act like you hit a triple.

  7. Eurydice says:

Going by the word salad in the first paragraph, I don’t think she knows what “context” means.

    • Debbie says:

You saw that mumbo-jumbo too? OMG, I had to re-read it to see if it was as nonsensical as it seemed. In what world does “it seems like nobody wants to work these days” equal “It’s not that I think women don’t want to work. Huh?!

  8. grabbyhands says:

I wonder what kind of story line PMK is queuing up to distract from this?

  9. TheOriginalMia says:

Vanity Fair’s editors have already put out videos of the interview. Her response was not out of context. She was asked her advice. She gave it. Then the interviewer asked her about being famous for being famous. The fact she thinks she can lie when there is video evidence is funny.

  10. Cafaran says:

The reporter went back and reviewed the video recording of the interview. The comment was not out of context. Kim’s response was to a direct question about her best advice for women.

  11. ChillinginDC says:

Is this week “celebs get the receipts pulled out on them” or what? I am laughing at the editor going not so fast and putting out that video. She said it, she just didn’t expect the backlash.

  12. NotSoSocialB says:

She’s stupid and she’s an ass. So there’s that.

  13. Sue E Generis says:

I guess I’m really out of touch. I just don’t understand how people aren’t tired of this family yet. They literally do nothing, invent nothing, elevate nothing. They have zero originality and they pretty much repeat similar themes (in ‘fashion’) constantly. Kim et al are sooo boring. But I guess I must be alone in thinking so.

    • ME says:

They are boring, but they get a lot of attention for the men they date. If it wasn’t for the men they have relationships with, we’d never hear about this family. They thrive from negative press and publicity. They’d rather people talk sh*t about them than not talk about them at all. Which is what we all do. They will go away once we all get tired of talking sh*t about them. Kanye, Travis Scott, Lamar, Tristan, Scott, Travis Barker, Pete…they’ve kept these women in the news more than anything they have accomplished (Skims, Lip Kits, etc.).

    • Truthiness says:

Can somebody please program a browser extension that filters out this family’s content and substitutes something like kitten gifs? Puppy gifs if you are a dog person.

  14. Marla Singer says:

Rich, privileged and boring!!!! So tired of them

  15. Leesa says:

    Those sunglasses, whhyyyyy?

  16. Sal says:

People don’t understand that getting pissed on in a sex tape that your own mother sells to the tabloids is a real job. People are also too backwards to understand that they should be emulating and bowing down to such classy values.

    • Otaku fairy says:

🙄 No need to emulate all the other bigots waiting around for something to capitalize on.

  17. Ariel says:

I read her clarification- and it actually made sense to me.
She said she was talking about or asked about specifically “influencer” type people.
People who want to take photos of themselves on instagram and make lots of money.
And that isn’t something that just happens, you really have to work hard and hustle to be successful at that.
And i feel like she said that years ago as well. Young women saw her posting photos and had no idea how much work went into what made her successful at that influencer/sponsorship type thing.

  18. serena says:

First of all, those sunglasses Kim and Kendall wore are fugly as hell and not appropriate. Her dress.. lord, I’m tired of seeing her in these plain outfits with gloves.. they’re just so plain and boring and stuck in the era Kanye told her how to dress (which, ew).

As for the comments, STFU Kim.

  19. Myjobistoprincess says:

why are kim’s eyes looking like melania trump’s, like she needs an eye exam?

  20. Jules says:

    my god is she exhausting.

  21. Eggbert says:

I would lllllllove to know what Kim’s day of hard work looks like 🤣

    • Truthiness says:

It includes not paying her interns. With the cost of living where it is right now, if you are not paying people who work for you you are part of the problem. And if you are not paying your employees enough, as her employees allege, you are part of the problem.
