The Sussexes have hired another seasoned, competent professional for Archewell

Everything I know about marketing, I learned from Emily In Paris! LOL. No, that’s not true, and one of my favorite criticisms of EIP is that it “misrepresents marketing.” Anyway, bit by bit, it looks like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are putting together a competent team of professionals for their Archewell entertainment arm. They hired a full-time head of marketing for Archewell Entertainment, who will work with them on their Spotify and Netflix projects. Oh, Variety says that she’ll work on Archewell’s charitable arm too.

Archewell, the media production company founded by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, has quietly hired former Sony Pictures Entertainment exec Fara Taylor as head of marketing. Prior to Archewell, Taylor spent more than 11 years at Sony Pictures, most recently as VP of global marketing partnerships.

She joined Beverly Hills-based Archewell in September 2021, according to the company. Taylor oversees all global marketing efforts for its three divisions: Archewell Productions, which has an exclusive deal with Netflix; Archewell Audio, which has an exclusive audio content pact with Spotify; and the not-for-profit Archewell Foundation.

As a movie marketing exec, Taylor worked on dozens of campaigns including for those in the Spider-Man and James Bond franchises. She began her career at management consulting firm Accenture and subsequently worked in marketing roles at Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation. Taylor is a founding member of I am a voter., a nonprofit civic engagement organization.

To date, Archewell has announced two projects set up at Netflix: animated series “Pearl,” about a 12-year-old girl who is inspired by influential women in history; and “Heart of Invictus,” a docuseries about the global adaptive sports competition founded by Prince Harry.

For Spotify, Archewell’s first podcast is “Archetypes,” hosted by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. The series is slated to debut this summer, a year and half after the couple originally announced their deal with Spotify. On the podcast, Markle will speak with historians, experts and guests to discuss — and “subvert” — historical stereotypes of women, according to the podcast’s trailer.

So Fara Taylor has already been working with Archewell since September and we’re only hearing about it now? Interesting. While it’s true that Pearl, Heart of Invictus and Archetypes are the only projects which have been announced thus far, I’m willing to bet that we’ll be getting some additional announcements, if not some fully-formed projects, in the months to come. The immediate focus is Invictus in The Hague. Then we’ll be up to our asses in Archewell content.

Also: I love the comparison between the kind of seasoned professionals being hired by Harry and Meghan versus the haphazard clownshow of sycophants hired by William and Kate. The Keens are more likely to hire people who will tell them they’re amazing and don’t need to change anything. The Sussexes hire people who will actually work and challenge them.

Something tells me that this woman, along with ALL the staff hired so far, are not adverse to 5 am emails. And working DAILY.

Call me crazy…. But it’s just a hunch…¯\_(ツ)_/¯. (Yes, sarcasm lolol)

Funnily, during the tour, Keen made a comment to a reporter about WhatsApp’ing the kid’s nanny at 4 a.m. to discuss ballet lessons! (This was when they needed positive press, so kids’ stories started coming out) I mean. Isn’t that bad? Isn’t that wrong? Isn’t that bullying? I thought discussing anything with staff before noon was frowned upon?

      • swirlmamad says:

Yeah, I saw that too. Crickets from the RRs other than to drool about “what a lovely hands-on mummy she is!” “Keeping things running smoothly at home while acting a fool abroad!” Give me a f-ing break.

      • Jan90067 says:

That was probably due to the time difference (God help me for “defending” Keen, but heaven knows there’s enough legitimate stuff to ding her on). 4 am in the Caribbean is about 2 pm in London. (Thank you, Siri!).

      • notasugarhere says:

It was also a blatant lie from Keen. The head nanny and all of her assistant nannies know exactly what time after school activities are. Keen was leaning in to her lie about being a full-time, hands-on, staff-less mum.

      • Becks1 says:

Also, why would she need to talk to them at 4am? The UK is only 5 or 6 hours ahead, depending on whether she was in belize (which i think is central time zone but that could be wrong) or the Bahamas. So why does she need to talk to them at 9 or 10 am UK time to discuss after school lessons? She doesn’t. She could have talked to them just as easily at 7 am her time. It was just decided that made her sound involved.

      • Goldfish Teacher says:

Maybe she wanted to communicate it right away b/c she might forget later on.

      • BeanieBean says:

Time difference aside, an email would have accomplished the same thing.

    • Christine says:

Goldfish Teacher, LOL! I think you are exactly right. Kate strikes me as a person who can only hold one thought in her head, at a time. Which is challenging, since her spirit animal is buttons.

I feel like a surprise documentary is going to drop. Weren’t they filming their New York trip?

  3. Gabriella says:

It’s definitely telling that a VP of Global Marketing at Sony was willing to leave a pretty powerful job to work with them. H&M are clearly very well respected.

  4. Snuffles says:

2022 about to be the age of the Sussex’s! Invictus Games, Heart of Invictus, Pearl, Archetypes, Harry’s Memoir and probably a few surprises.

I know so many (fans and haters) were impatient for them to put out content as quickly as possible (so they can profit off of covering it), but they were keeping their heads down and focusing on the work.

I have no doubt what they put out will be high quality and not slapped together like a Cambridge joint. I expect the roll out to be top notch.

Harry and Meghan have fully settled into their new homes. Have their daily routines set. Archie is a toddler. Lili will turn one soon. They’re READY!

  5. Becks1 says:

Yeah I bet she’s not complaining about meetings being held regularly. H&M are hiring competent, respected professionals and while its not a surprise, its still nice to hear about each “new” hire (considering this one has been there for months) and think about how they’re helping their work.

  6. Jan says:

If she was hired since September why is the media reporting it, like it’s a new hire?
In Living Color use to do a piece with Damon W playing a Jamaican with five jobs, Harry is reminding me of that, with so many hats in the fire.
The BM thinking he cares about a birthday party for a 40 yr old toddler.

  7. Amy Bee says:

And some royalists had to gall to say Harry and Meghan don’t work.

    • Nic919 says:

It’s really amazing how these royalists care so much about a private contract that doesn’t involve them but remain silent on complete waste of taxpayer money with the layabouts who still remain on the dole.

  8. Over it says:

They get shit done, not sit around talking shit

  9. Jais says:

Love it. Hiring competent people we don’t even know about. Since September and no leaks. Happy for them.

  10. Goldfish Teacher says:

This person’s LinkedIn says that she’s still at Sony. Maybe she working with them as a consultant.

    • Persephone says:

Most likely not – I didn’t correct my LinkedIn page until 6 months after starting my new job. Most people I know don’t update their pages immediately, even if it’s a very high profile position. And especially for her – I certainly wouldn’t in her place.

      • kirk says:

Ditto; didn’t update my LinkedIn to retired until 9 months after retirement. Fara Taylor is not likely relying on LinkedIn for job opportunities.

  11. Petra says:

I once posted here that Sussex fans should get ready for what’s to come from our 2 favourite people. They are on their mark… set to go…and it’s a go!

Fara Taylor was hired September 2021, the press and us only know this now because the 2 founders of Archewell Foundation, Archewell Audio and Archewell Production released a press brief. What does this tell us? It says believe nothing written about the Sussexes unless it’s come directly from their office.
