Melissa Rivers: ‘I still believe that the right haircut will change my life’

Melissa Rivers is promoting her book Lies My Mother Told Me: Tall Tales from a Short Woman, which is out this week. It’s full of stories about her mom, Joan Rivers, who passed at 81 in 2014 during a routine endoscopy. I still think about Joan sometimes, especially during awards season when the bitchier commentary is missing. Melissa and Joan were very close and Melissa is paying tribute to her mom by keeping her memory alive, although I’ll never forget that bitch. (I truly hope you say that about me when I’m dead.) Melissa has a “25 Things” list with Us Magazine and a lot of what she said resonated with me. Namely the fact that she loves naps and can sleep anywhere. Here’s some of her list and there’s more at the source.

1. I play tennis, paddle tennis and pickleball.

4. I can fall asleep anywhere — literally anywhere.

5. Hence, I’m a nap enthusiast.

14. I can’t eat anything that resembles what it looked like when it was alive.

17. I still believe that the right haircut will change my life.

18. I love cashmere sweaters.

19. A white T-shirt and jeans are my uniform.

21. I don’t like it when my foods touch each other on my plate.

[From US Magazine]

I have been playing pickleball, we talked about it on the podcast this week, and I’m surprised at how fun it is! I don’t think I would be able to switch back and forth between that and tennis, at least not yet as I’m still getting a handle on the scoring for pickleball. It’s complicated! I’m also a napper, I take one every day when possible and I believe in the power of a good haircut too! Conversely, a bad haircut can make your life miserable, especially before a big event.

Also, many people are similar to Melissa and don’t like different foods to touch each other on their plate. It sounds like she’s not too picky about it, but I wonder how those people can eat one skillet meals. Like do they just think of it as all one food and how does that work?

I don’t care for the fit of this sweater. It bunches up around the middle and makes her look thick which I am sure she is not.

    • BeanieBean says:

And it makes it look like she’s hunching her shoulders. I’m sure she knows how to pose for the cameras by now.
As to her list: I, too, can fall asleep anywhere. If I’m supine, I fall asleep–at the dentist, at the facialist, at yoga. Just snoring away. And I believe in the power of a good haircut.

Joan Rivers death was one of those celebrity deaths that made me so sad. The way she died was so pointless and tragic,i honestly feel she would have lived well into her late 90s.

    • atorontogal says:

I totally agree. If it weren’t for the botched cosmetic surgery she would probably have gone on and on.
Sidebar: Melissa is looking so much like mommy post surgeries – it’s scary.

      • HeatherC says:

Joan Rivers died during an endoscopy gone wrong, which is a medical diagnostic procedure and not cosmetic surgery. (She’d had her share of cosmetic surgery but that wasn’t part of her death.) Donda West (Kanye’s mother) died of complications after cosmetic surgery. It’s an important reminder that all surgery carries risks for complications and death. Any procedure from surgery to diagnostic tests like endoscopies carry risks because of the sedation/anesthesia involved.

      • Elizabeth Phillips says:

Agreed, ATORONTOGAL. I’d be afraid to do anything under anesthesia if my Mom had died the way Joan did.

  3. Eurydice says:

I don’t have a problem with my food touching on the plate, but when I see commercials for “bowls,” like that KFC thing with everything piled on top of everything else, I feel kind of queasy.

  4. KBeth says:

She is morphing into her mother.

    • whatWHAT? says:

she really needs to stop with the facial surgery. she looks more like Jocelyn Wildenstein than she does her mother.

  5. Mai B says:

Is she going under the knife to look like her mum? Girl, no…

  6. AppleCart says:

My best work friend could not have food touch each other. She was militant about making sure her food was in their own sections. I loved to goof on her about it. You know, when we had to work in offices together… the oldy times….

  7. DiegoInSF says:

I think she’d look fabulous with Cousin Itt’s hairstyle! It would frame her face really nicely!

  8. Glen Roebuck says:

Is that Melissa “mommy make me famous” Rivers or Caitlyn Jenner?

  9. JFerber says:

I can really feel the sadness Melissa has that her mom is gone. It’s nothing specifically that she said, but my mom died 10 years ago and it’s a sadness that never ends. She really misses her mom.

  10. 2lazy4username says:

TOTALLY thought it was Caitlyn Jenner!

  11. Pat says:

Melissa needs to get a new plastic surgeon and stop using Joan’s! Melissa is morphing into Caitlyn Jenner!
