Sydney Sweeney loves working on cars and restored a 1969 Ford Bronco

This is a pretty cool story. Sydney Sweeney, of Euphoria and White Lotus fame, is into classic cars and completely refurbished a 1969 Ford Bronco. Sydney started working on the car in February 2021 and chronicled her restoration process on TikTok, finishing in January 2022. Her car was included as part of eBay Motor’s New York Auto Parts Show, which is a new part (no pun) of the New York Auto Show that is intended “to demonstrate how car enthusiasts can build, fix, or maintain their dream car.”

Apparently Sydney got into this idea during quarantine, bought the car, then partnered with eBay Motors to complete her build and display her car. She attended the show to show off her new car and probably to get the inaugural event some press. She looks pretty cute in that mechanic’s jumpsuit!

Hey, Sydney Sweeney – we’re free for a spin!

After completely refurbishing her 1969 Ford Bronco, the Euphoria actress took the car to eBay Motor’s New York Auto Parts Show to show off her work as part of the show’s exhibit on restored cars.

“Since buying my Ford Bronco last February, I’ve done everything from rebuilding the transmission, to wire brushing out rust,” Sweeney said in a press release for the automobile show. “It’s really important to me to preserve the integrity of the original Ford build, so when I need a rare part – like a unique transmission adaptor that is next-to-impossible to come by – eBay Motors is always my first stop.”

Sweeney showed off the process of restoring the Bronco on her TikTok account, @syds_garage. She filmed videos of herself working on every part of the vintage car. The final video, posted in January, showed Sweeney driving the Bronco after finishing all of the necessary restorations.

In a conversation with Cosmopolitan, Sweeney spoke about why the hobby is important to her. “Anyone can go buy a brand-new car, but not everyone can have something rare that has history,” she said.

“In quarantine, my creative juices were overflowing. I was very bored and I got addicted to going to auction sites for cars. I wanted a Bronco so badly. But I wanted to build one so that when I drove it and people said ‘cool car,’ I could be like ‘yeah, thanks’ and know I made it.”

The Bronco won’t be Sweeney’s last project. The actress recently shared another vintage car she purchased on her TikTok account — a Ford Mustang she nicknamed Britney.

“Meet my new baby britney 🥰💙 gonna start working on her soon!” she captioned the video in March 2021.

I think this is such a cool hobby! I like cars too, but the extent of my hands-on knowledge is being excellent at the various iterations of Need for Speed. My in-game garage is unparalleled. If I had the time and money, I’d totally love to do stuff like this, but not with classic cars, with sports cars. I think I’m more of a Need for Fast and Furious Speed vibe than vintage vibe. But classic cars are super cool. And eBay Motors partnership or not, it sounds like Sydney does know what she’s talking about and worked really hard on her car herself.

I mostly know Sydney from that White Lotus meme of her in the glasses and articles I’ve read about Euphoria (I think I’m the only person who doesn’t watch it), but she has actually appeared in a handful of other shows I’ve watched as well. It really seems like she’s one to watch right now. She’s in buzzy projects, she has a cool hobby, and seems to be measured about things that give her anxiety and her personal life. She recently got engaged to a 37-year-old restauranteur that she’s been with for four-ish years (she’s 24), so that’s… interesting.

I love this. I hope no d-bs are in her comments about how she probably hired someone; she clearly is invested in this.

My husband has been dying for a ’57 Chevy to fix up with his brother, but they haven’t found what they want. Their dad had one before he passed when they were kids and it’s always been their dream to find one like it to share.

I’m not gonna check but yeah the comments are probably full of dudes who can barely pump their own gas making sexist comments.

I would love to restore my Nissan micra.
This would be a Hobby I would love to get into

She’s also coming to the MCU* so she really is one to watch right now. She does well on Euphoria even if her character isn’t particularly likable as a protagonist or antagonist. Cassie is mostly just messy in a sad way, but Sydney gives it her all.

*Its about Spider-Man villains so I do not know If it’s actually the normal MCU universe with the Avengers or a separate Sony film. I don’t fully understand the whole Spider-Man/X-Men/Marvel conflict.

    • Christine says:

It’s the Sony universe and it’s probably going to suck. The writers from Morbius are attached.

Yeesh. I love this for her in theory, but in practice she is not nearly dirty enough in those photos to qualify as evidence. My husband restores old cars and bikes, and that man is FILTHY almost before he begins. She’s wearing a white shirt and cute overalls? A midriff t? Hmmm.

But who the hell am I to judge? It’s still cool as hell if she had a hand in it.

    • LIONE says:

      Yeah, thought the same.
This is like one of her maaaaaany narcissistic stories about herself.
She’s really good at talking herself up and show off. And good for her, men do that all the time.

But there’s no chance in hell this is real and anything else than PR and branding/image building.

Really like her though. Even if she’s a bit try-hard and constantly gives off the vibe that she feels like she has to prove herself. Just relax, you’re dope no matter what, girl.

Loved Black Lotus, am rooting for her, this is a cool hobby and makes me want to follow her on TikTok. That is all. (Oh, same about Need for Speed! haha)

  6. Truthiness says:

Honk! I’d love to do this but I’d need a big garage and plenty of pricey tools. Old cars have a lot more style than the new models put out now.

  7. AC says:

I love this story so much! I could only wish for that talent!

  8. Christine says:

I have never heard of Sydney Sweeney before today, and I have kept my 12 year old off of social media, for obvious reasons, but I will get Tik Toc on my phone, to show him this kick ass chick restoring cars.

She looks totally normal and cute without makeup. Good for her, this seems like a fun project!
