Angelina Jolie has been working for the United Nations High Commission on Refugees for twenty-one years. She started out as UNHCR goodwill ambassador in 2001, then she was promoted to Special Envoy for the UNHCR. She has worked tirelessly for refugees in general, and specifically for women and children displaced by war and internal issues.
I thought that when Jolie focused on Ukrainian refugees, she would end up at one of the refugee camps in Poland. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has led to 5.5 million Ukrainian refugees (as in, people who have left Ukraine) and over 7 million displaced Ukrainians within the country. As it turns out, Jolie actually flew into Ukraine to meet with internally displaced people within the country. She was also seen getting coffee in a shop in Lviv, plus she went to one of Jose Andres’s World Central Kitchen outposts. People Magazine reports that she visited the children injured in an April 8 bombing outside Kramatorsk.

Jolie visited injured children evacuated from Donetsk Oblast and orphans. She also met volunteers who provide medical and psychological help to Ukrainian evacuees.
