Demi Moore steps out looking her age, but only for a moment

Ryan Kavanaugh Hosts A Book Party For Laura Day

Demi Moore went out to a book party in Los Angeles without Ashton Kutcher on Monday night. Instead of going with the “they’re not attached at the hip, they must be breaking up” angle, most of the press jumped on the fact that Demi was looking less than flawless at the event. I’ve been looking at pictures of her from this thing, and I think she looks pretty great, but whatever. The photographers got a few close-up pictures of her smiling where she looks a little sketchy (see above, and the NYDN picture, which is slightly gruesome).

Anyway, most sources are running this as a “Demi looks her age” or “Time has caught up to Demi” story. I usually hate these kind of stories, but Demi is the one who gave some huge interview over the summer denying she had any plastic surgery whatsoever (here and here to see our coverage). So do a few bad pictures in bad lighting prove that Demi is aging naturally?

Has time finally caught up with Demi Moore?

It certainly appeared that way when the actress, who turns 47 next month, flashed her megawatt smile to reveal noticeable crow’s feet and a wrinkled nose when she attended a Los Angeles book launch party on Monday.

Though the actress has vehemently denied going under the knife, she is open to the procedure.

“It’s completely false – I’ve never had it done,” Moore told the August issue of French Marie Claire. “But I would never judge those who have. If it’s the best thing for them, then I don’t see a problem.”

She added, “On the other hand, I don’t like the idea of having an operation to hold up the ageing process – it’s a way to combat your neurosis. The scalpel won’t make you happy.”

“That said, the day when I start crying when I look at myself in the mirror might be the day when I’m less adamant about not having it done,” she said. “For the moment I prefer to be a beautiful woman of my age than try desperately to look 30.”

Moore has been long rumored to have spent nearly $300,000 worth of plastic surgery, including liposuction, breast implants, and other work on her face, the Daily Mail reported.

[From the New York Daily News]

Well, I’ve never believed Demi’s plastic surgery denials, so I don’t buy that this is some kind of photo evidence that she’s “aging naturally” or whatever. I think it perfectly possible that she got a really good facelift several years ago, and now her skin is starting to stretch and fall a little bit, thus she has wrinkles. Whatever, I’m no expert. It could just be crappy lighting.

I just think it’s been a while since her last treatment with botox …

  2. J says:

    The woman looks incredible.
I know 30 year olds that don’t look that good.

    People are so mean.

  3. Ally says:

She still looks awesome. She may have just had makeup that was too powdery on, which may account for the difference. These tabloidy newspapers (Daily Mail, NY Post) are meaner than actual tabloids; they seem to be staffed by cro-magnons from the 80s era.

On the other hand, it’s a common star feint to say they didn’t have plastic surgery, as for them plastic surgery involves a scalpel. We would consider injectables, botox and acid peels as part of plastic surgery, too, but they don’t.

  4. Firestarter says:

That picture reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry is dating this chick that looks hot sometimes and then in certain light is hideous looking.

  5. Sumodo says:

Always look at the neck. The neck, people! Crepey neck = gettin’ old. You get to 45, CREPEY NECK. Not much the doc can do there. No matter how much plastic surgery or filler used elsewhere. The skin gets thin for lack of fat, and the skin puckers like the fabric known as “crepe.” Look at Meg Ryan. Crepey neck. LaToya? Creeeepy neck. And, so on. Any questions?

  6. Tess says:

Firestarter, I think they called her “Two-face.”

    Demi’s smile is killer.

  7. Liz Conley says:

It’s obvious she’s doing tons of botox and fillers….I also believe the face-lift theory. She still looks absolutely incredible, so who the hell cares? If this was a man would Hollywood and all the rest of us be critiquing the HELL out of him for not looking his age? No! So, I think people should shut the hell up about it! Leave her alone- she’s a beautiful woman who has aged gracefully and beautifully with a little help 🙂

  8. Firestarter says:

@Tess- Thanks, I couldn’t remember the name and was too lazy to look it up. : )

  9. coucou says:

That article smacks of ageism, and i am SO SICK of it! I’d like to see the person who writes this shite. They need to be outed for the loathesome individuals they are…it is just so utterly ridiculous, and so insanely superficial. Ok, i know that’s what Hollywood is about, but still, pointing out crows feet and wrinkles around the nose? Who the hell cares? She looks amazing in the other photos. The person who writes this crap needs to look in the mirror and realize what he or she is contributing to, a sick form of misogyny that affects all women, our sisters, our mothers, our daughters. A very smart man once quoted that it’s easy for a young girl to be pretty, but when an older woman is pretty, that says so much more. So there you misogynist ageist idiot.

  10. Westender says:

She still looks younger than Lindsay Lohan!

  11. Praise St. Angie! says:

while I agree she looks great, I would not agree that she’s aged “gracefully”.

in fact, it’s the opposite. she’s done all she can to slow the aging process, and that’s the antithesis of aging gracefully.

  12. crash2GO2 says:

My feathers are ruffled by the reference to a the photo is that is ‘slightly gruesome’. Gimme a break! She looks great even in that photo!

Sumodo, you’re right – the neck is the killer. I don’t know why ladies get all this laser stuff done on their faces and totally shine on their necks, because they end up just looking like they have a mask on.

  13. NIKKI says:

I agree with Praise St. A – Demi isn’t aging gracefully.

I’m aging gracefully – I’m 29 and look 19 (get carded everywhere I go – no complaints though. LOL); or anyone who takes care of themselves without the aide of plastic surgery and looks fantastic for their age is said to be aging gracefully.

  14. Sumodo says:

@coucou @westender you two should get together and have a smackdown. On a site like this, snark rules. Ageism, weightism, sexism, or outright sarcasm are fair game. Where else can we vent about these people who make tons of money and wallow in it right in front of our eyes.
@crash2GO2 Thank you for the agreement on the neck. Candance Bergin had a neck lift once, took YEARS off!
@Firestarter Love the Seinfeld reference. TwoFace!

  15. Sue says:

If someone wants to get plastic surgery – more power to them. But don’t lie about it. Before she did Charlie’s Angels she had several procedures done even her knees.

  16. original kate says:

this is the problem with botox- if you miss a few treatments (as it appears maybe demi has in this photo) suddenly you look your age. whereas before your skin was tight and shiny now you have some sags and wrinkles… if you just age naturally nobody would notice.

  17. Blah Blah says:

wow how terrible, your face crinkling up a bit around the eyes and mouth when you smile *sarcasm*. That’s what our faces are meant to do!!! Hollywood is insane. I could not handle being a celebrity. The media has no mercy.

  18. skibunny says:

She looks good, but still looks her age. She has obviously taken great care of herself.
And for all of you who scorn age…. get a grip you will be there one day yourself and most likely wont look like Demi…..with or without all the “help”.

  19. Madchen says:

I’m the same age as she is and stuff just happens, man. A little line here, and little difference in feeling here (yeah, that crepey stuff — thanks, i never had a name for it…). Worst of all, my mom told me I’m “finally starting to look my age.” FML

  20. Sumodo says:

@madchen Cheer up. My mom told me I let myself “go to hell.”

  21. ligeia says:

ahhh yesss i feel so much better about myself now that i put down some celebrity! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm….
now it’s time to blame the media for misogynist and ageist treatment of females….it’s totally the medias fault right…?

  22. mollination says:

while I don’t think these pictures are story-worthy in themselves, I think it’s more about the fact that Demi has denied it publicly so many times that the media is more compelled to prove her wrong and so “Ohhhh really?”. Whatever. She basically asked for it. If she just kept to herself and stayed believably youthful, people would assume it’s a little botox like everyone else in Hollywood and let it go.

  23. AC says:

Sketchy? She has lines on her face when she smiles. Like everyone. Jesus people. The media is so ridiculous.

  24. Cinderella says:

That first picture looks doctored. It doesn’t match any of the others.

I think Demi looks great. I saw her in person 13 years ago from about 5 feet away and what stood out to me was how petite she was (and toned like no other.) Her eyes sparkled without makeup.

  25. Maritza says:

She definitely has fake teeth, I hate to see her without makeup! She can’t stop time so she better get used to the idea of looking her age.

  26. TwinkleToes says:

Considering Demi will actually be 50 next month (she lies about that too) she looks good. I remember my age when she was 19 during her GH days and I loved her voice and look so I always paid attention to her as a kid. Even saw her in Blame It On Rio. She looks better than Madonna, IMO.

  27. jm says:

I’m 41 and certainly look nothing like Demi, but I have friends who do. The ones who work out like crazy and have the time and $$ to pamper themselves look just as good.

Demi may do facial fillers or whatever, but I don’t really see signs of a facelift (look at Courtney Cox’s obvious eye lift for comparison). If she had one, it’s not bad. And honestly, do we want to see stars looking as frumpy as ourselves?

  28. Juice In LA says:

I would give my left breast to know the name of her Plastic Surgeon. Of course she is starting to show her age- even plastic surgery can’t help after a while. At this point she has to stop or go Cat Lady-Joan Rivers on us. Trouble is when the surgically enhanced faces start to fall- they look horrific.

    Poor Demi.

  29. ccoop says:

She’s got those scary Gary Busey Chiclet-teeth.

  30. WTF?!? says:

“So do a few bad pictures in bad lighting prove that Demi is aging naturally?”

Until women stop criticizing other women who are beautiful (for any age) as though being 50 is a terminal illness, the media won’t stop, either.

  31. lrm says:

    is she really 50?
maybe they lied and said she was older for GH,to not get heat for portraying a late teen/early adult character?

  32. Maebelle says:

If she’s slightly dehydrated she will have more wrinkles than normal. A dehydrated 20-something will show wrinkles around their mouth and eyes just like in Demi’s picture.

  33. Kathie says:

Dude! She is a hag! The number of people of both genders who would drop their S.O. like a hot rock if she wagged her finger has gone down from 2 million to 1.5 million OMG! Also was she on a wittness stand when she denied having any plastic surgery? I don’t tell everyone (or anyone)everything either!!

  34. asdfadfadfasdfasdfasdf says:

It’s the chicklet teeth that look bad.

  35. kim says:

And that bridge or whatever that black thing is – stuck in her teeth. Yucko.

  36. Bob says:

Since she’s always lied about her age by a few years, she looks damn good for a “47 year old” woman who is in reality probably 52 or 53.

  37. jule says:

    yummmmm crepes…..the edible kind

  38. la chica says:

    she looks 47.

  39. xiufetish says:

In my entire experience with Celebitchy, I have never seen the equivalent analysis, pore by pore, of a bloke.

Actresses can never win. If she did nothing, she would be derided as a hag and would win no roles (other than for grandmother, but they are reserved for 40-45-year-olds in Hollywood). If she does fix herself up and admits to it, every article would focus on her surgeries. If she claims to have done nothing, she’s a hypocrite. It’s gobshite.

  40. TinaWithPom says:

She looks great. But the teeth bothers. Such big, ROUND teeth.

  41. Merridith says:

She looks better than Lindsay and Angelina by far.

  42. Melissa says:

She still looks amazing and I am so sick of this ridiculous focus on women’s ages — articles like this only perpetuate it. Fuck…we are ALL GETTING OLDER.
