VP Kamala Harris will be ‘aggressive’ on the campaign trail this year

Following the Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade, the Biden administration was “criticized” for…not doing enough to counter the SCOTUS decision. I didn’t really understand why people were yelling at President Biden, except that there are currently two generations of Americans who don’t understand American civics and they think a president is all-powerful. Hillary Clinton told everyone what would happen in 2016 and millions of Americans didn’t believe her. The Dobbs decision is a culmination of what happened in the 2016 election, period, the end. So what can be done now, and what will be done? Apparently, the Biden administration is making VP Kamala Harris the point person for the midterms, meaning VP Harris is going to travel around the country for the next three months, driving home the fact that y’all need to vote.

Vice President Kamala Harris and her team plan to hit the campaign and fundraising circuit in an aggressive bid to elevate Democratic state legislators and governors on the abortion rights frontlines. The events reflect the vice president’s expanding work on abortion policy since the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down Roe v. Wade. And, if executed, they would mark an aggressive push by the second highest Democrat in the land to get involved in races often overlooked by the national party.

“We need to make it a goal that we’re out in America three days a week,” Harris told her staff recently as they worked to figure out how much overall travel she should take through the November elections, a source familiar with the conversations said.

Already, the vice president has started executing on the state and local strategy. Last weekend, she surprised volunteers and campaign aides for Josh Shapiro’s gubernatorial campaign in Pennsylvania with a visit. White House aides said the campaign had asked Harris to stop by and give a morale boost in what’s set to be a very close race in the state.

“Who is governor of this state will matter,” Harris told the crowd. “The General Assembly … [we’ve] got to turn it and elect a majority pro-choice General Assembly.”

The message echoed those she’s shared for national races, and the visit was part of what Harris aides and Democrats in state-focused organizations see as a necessary step to find ways to protect abortion rights. For weeks, Harris has held meetings with lawmakers in states where abortion rights have been, or will be, greatly restricted. Those meetings have been a mix of listening sessions and opportunities to relay promises the administration will assist in the push back against restrictions.

But the next chapter in her strategy will get more aggressive. White House aides said the vice president is going to specifically head to red and purple states to call out “Republican extremism” on issues like abortion.

I think this is a great strategy? VP Harris should be front-and-center. It feels like she’s been restrained somewhat from taking the lead on many issues by the administration, but this is the perfect moment for her to energize the base and give a lot of face time to abortion rights and what’s still at stake not only in the midterms, but in governor’s races across the country. I also think VP Harris will help with the messaging for the Democratic Party. If there’s one criticism I have of the Dems so far it’s that the messaging hasn’t been cohesive and they are not reflecting just how horrific the abortion rights situation is on the ground.

I’d love to see this smart, articulate woman be out there and utilized a lot more by the Biden administration and Dems

    • Both Sides Now says:

@ Peanut Butter, I hope she comes to Texas as the gap between Beto and Abbot the Neanderthal is closing in!! Texas residents are furious with his flagrant disregard to so many factors that affect their everyday lives from allowing anyone to carry a gun to restricting transgender children to live as they most identify and the families are placed under investigation for supporting their children.

I could go on, but the tide is beginning to turn. And we MUST get more left leaning voters to actually vote!!! And Hillary was right!!! And this is just the beginning as well.

check your voter registration mine was changed in a very democratic area so I could not vote in our primary. I have to change it before the midterms.

Of course you meant it to be offensive. You like many love to diminish, mock and silence black women and women of color. You “legit forgetting” that Kamala Harris is the Vice President of the United States, the first WOMAN Vice President says so much about you.

I think that this is a great idea and I am ready for the bullshit that Fox “News” and the Chuck Todd’s of the world will spew to try and disrespect and discredit her. I know she will be too. This is a fight for our lives and I am glad that she’s going to be in the for front.

Thanks Kaiser or Celebitchy for deleting that disrespectful comment. I know I responded to it but I had to because it infuriated me so much. You guys are the best.

Well, they say a change is as good as a rest.

I am rooting for Kamala! I know she can do this. I admit, I’ve been a little disappointed in the lack of gravitas in her remarks and lack of public appearances. The administration really needs to put her out front so she can get comfortable up there, verbally whipping all those ridiculous and terrifying right wing politicians and their terrible platforms. She (and most Dems?) don’t seem at ease giving fiery speeches and that needs to change! I swear, she needs to get some pointers from Fetterman. Go get ‘em Kamala!!!

Every year…this is what elected Dems who are ABOUT democracy & justice for all are up against:

    – Fascist Republicans
    – SCOTUS that capes for Fascist Republicans
    – Progressives who are COMPLICIT to fascists Republicans
    – A global push for fascism with the Republican Party in this country working WITH that movement
    – Bigotry in the Democratic Party
    – Sexism in the Democratic Party
    – 60 years of voter suppression & apathy
-Mainstream media who has monetized caping for fascism
    – Billionaire corporations funding Fascist policies

For 54 years…45 of them where I have had an understanding of politics…I have seen elected Dems FIGHT tooth & nail for equality as a whole…I use the word fascism so often because THAT is where we are AT and have been for YEARS …though folks didn’t want to believe it…

This is why I am SO LOUD with my support for The Democratic Party…because I KNOW and SEE the HUGE fight they have to encounter to get ANYTHING DONE…because MORE OF THEM are entrenched in putrid power than US 🇺🇸 right now and fascism has to be CONSTANTLY fought against…every moment of EVERYDAY…for ever & EVER!

I just hope people Stop voting for Republicans. I am so nervous for mid terms in Nov and 2024 . I hope the DNC runs new people. I don’t want the 2020 dem winners. I want new people!!! A different woman! I live in a blue state but still with all the gerrymandering, it is super nerve racking.

I’m kind of hoping that this Supreme Court nonsense with backfire for Republicans and push all of the more moderate folks to vote Dem. The Republicans have pushed through so much garbage policy that is not actually supported by the majority of the American people. These nutjobs are the minority and any power that they have is stolen through gerrymandering and voter suppression. Maybe overturning Roe will be a bridge too far for some folks. And maybe the people who were only hanging on to the party because of their anti-choice stance will finally be willing to move on now that Roe’s been trashed.
