Neve Campbell would come back to ‘Scream’ if they made a respectful offer

In June, Neve Campbell walked away from Scream 6 because they weren’t offering her enough money. From the sound of it, the offer must have been downright insulting, especially considering that Neve IS the Scream franchise. Paramount rebooted the franchise with Scream 5 (which was just called Scream), but the whole film was based heavily on the mythos of the original franchise. Neve, Courtney Cox and David Arquette all returned for the fifth film too. It’s time for Neve to get those big paychecks for fronting one of the most successful female-led horror franchises in history. But Paramount didn’t want to pay a woman what she was worth, so Neve walked away. In a new interview, it sounds like Neve is leaving the door open to possibly return if Paramount offers her a respectful paycheck.

Whether she’s done with the Scream franchise: “I don’t know that I’m done for good. It would really depend on what they came to me with next. It would have to be different. It would have to be a different attitude, and I’m not sure that’s going to happen. If they came to me with a number that felt right, that felt respectful, that felt in keeping with my value that I brought to the franchise, I’d be willing to consider [returning in the future].”

She has hope: “I don’t believe it’s dead in the water, but we’ll see. But honestly, I’m really okay. I’ve been able to let it go. I wish them well. I’m doing three different shows right now. I’m very, very grateful that I’m working. I’m happy. So all is good.”

Why she released her statement in June: Campbell says it was in part because her fans “have been so committed and supportive that I felt that I owed them an explanation as to why I wasn’t going to be there, because I knew it’s not just about me. At the same time, I think it’s important that we all stand up for ourselves and that we all feel good about the way we’re being treated. I didn’t want to make it a big political thing. I wish the actors and the directors well. I care for them. I’m sad to not be with them. I hope they had a good experience on this one. I don’t want there to be bad blood.”

Whether she thinks the franchise will be successful without her: “I’m sure people will still go see it. People love these movies. I’m not the only reason that these films are successful. In no way do I believe that. As I said, I hope for the cast and for the directors — because they have worked really hard and care deeply about these movies — I hope they’ve enjoyed the experience and that it will be positive for them.”

[From People]

Neve is a class act and a real movie star. I doubt I could be so classy about it, and I’m exactly the kind of short-sighted a–hole who would have burned all of those bridges as I exited. I still can’t get over the fact that Paramount has gotten away with low-balling the actress helming one of the most successful horror franchises of all time! I can’t get over the fact that there’s barely been any outrage since Neve stepped away in June. Even her male costars – like Matthew Lillard – were like “this is crazy, pay Neve.”

Given that Neve has gone public with how disrespected she feels, I’m surprised they haven’t tried to work with her on a better offer. She really is a class act and I’m glad she’s standing up for women knowing their worth — and when to walk away when their worth isn’t acknowledged.

I’m a big Scream fan, and story-wise, I actually am okay with Sidney not being in the next film, or having a very small role. Not because I don’t love Neve or the character — I love both! — but Scream 2022 was really trying to set up legacy characters who can hopefully carry the story forward on their own, and that makes sense to me. Gale is a journalist so she’s easy to incorporate into any storyline, but it makes less and less sense for Sidney to continue being involved when she’s now married with children, according to the last film.

I am so curious to know what she was offered, even ball park. I realise these arent the 90s anymore and people dont get 20M per movie but i am curious to know what sh was offered now and what she got for Scream part 2 & 3 once it was clear that these are blockbusters. And Courtney Cox is back,so she is getting paid more than Neve or she doesnt care?

I love the Scream movies, but the money people’s disrespect of her is enough to turn me off of the franchise.

And i get a smaller role, but she had the best line in the whole movie (Scream 5) “I’m Sydney f**king Prescott, of course i have a gun.”

The Scream movies are a lot of fun.
But i’ll skip this next one.

Good for her. I admire how she’s handling this – holding firm and knowing her worth, but also remaining gracious towards the rest of the people in the production.
it’s ridiculous that they wouldn’t give her what she’s asking. Male stars of big franchises have the money just dumped on them without question.

Honk for paying Neve what’s she’s worth ❤ and I believe Neve has seen a lot more than she has made public.
