Anne Hathaway wore Valentino for the NYFF ‘Armageddon Time’ premiere

Anne Hathaway is probably going to be part of an Oscar campaign this season. She has a supporting role in Armageddon Time, and last night was the New York Film Festival premiere for the movie. I watched the trailer for the first time just now (I’m including it below). It looks… interesting and sad. That’s Jeremy Strong as the father, and Anne plays the mother of this youth. It’s a very specific story about the 1980s and race and Judaism. Anne looks like she’s acting her ass off, so does Jeremy Strong.

Fashion notes: for the premiere, Anne wore Valentino, head to toe. She’s a long-time Valentino girl, although she’s never been exclusively contracted to the label. She does wear a lot of Valentino and she often tries to make it to the Valentino shows. I like the dress a lot but the matching boots are kind of overkill? This dress doesn’t need boots, it needs strappy silver pumps.

As a longtime Royal Wiglet Watcher, my eyes quickly drifted to that dead cat on Anne’s head. It’s hilariously bad, so much so that it gives her ensemble the air of a costume, like she’s play-acting a rich bitch in a bouffant wig for the red carpet.

Josh Charles was at the premiere for some reason and I’m including a photo of Anne and Josh, because I can’t pass it up. He’s soooo attractive to me. I was just thinking about him the other day and now here he is. He’s not in this movie.

You are right; the boots kill what otherwise looks like a great dress on Anne.

  2. Mel says:

I like the dress, but hate the boots. My husband and son are going to see this tonight at the festival. I’ll hear all about it tonight.

  3. Josephine says:

It looks like she’s been having a lot of fun with fashion, which is the way it should be. I personally don’t love the boots but I still love the overall look. She looks great, healthy, happy.

  4. Yup, Me says:

I LOVE the boots with this outfit. It completes the look perfectly. And the hair is doing a whole lot but the overall effect is updated 80s maximalist glam. Love it.

    • Danbury says:

I love the boots too, I can’t help it. I think the outfit is great. But it’s also true that I detest strappy sandals so I’ll always choose anything over that

  5. Jan90067 says:

Those boots make it WAY over the top. I agree with a strappy sandal. Or take 2 ft off the hem and make it a mini dress with the boots. That’d be cute and retro!

And I’ll say it one more time: it BUGS me when women are dressed to the nines, and men look like they’re dressed for a TOTALLY different event!

  6. sparrow says:

I actually like the whole look. Only because it looks like the shimmer is in smaller pieces at the top of her dress before falling into bigger pieces of shimmer as it goes down the dress and to the boots.

  7. Beech says:

“dead cat” you said a mouthful! 😂

  8. girl_ninja says:

She looks gorgeous and the gown is fabulous and she’s makes it work.

  9. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

This movie needs to be watched, but I can’t lol. It will simply make me furious because the people who need to watch? Will not. The horrible people in this country are too busy complaining how our ‘regime’ shut down a conspiracy theorist. He’s not, btw, shut down.

Anne looks fine. The boots are ridiculous. One more thing: in order to get the ignorant to watch a film with an underlying message, directors and producers are going to have to employ more creative methods.

  10. Amy Bee says:

I agree, Anne should have worn some silver strappy high heel sandals instead. The dress is fabulous.

  11. Redheadwriter says:

    More Josh Charles!!

  12. L4Frimaire says:

That’s a lot of silver spangles. She kinda looks like Lana Del Rey in these pics. Maybe it’s the overkill. The movie looks really good though.

  13. lucy2 says:

Love the dress, dislike the boots.
    Josh looks good.

  14. Queenie says:

She’s always slightly bugged me because she comes across as so pretentious. But lately she’s grown on me and seems to be taking herself less seriously and having fun. Her look, especially hair and makeup, are fabulous!

  15. vertes says:

Do people ever sit down in such embellished dresses? All I can think of whenever I see studded clothing is how uncomfortable it must be to sit, or lean back, on all those hard bumps. Tell me they’re frosty marshmallows instead of pearl beads?

  16. jferber says:

The silver boots are too much along with the dress. Do love the dress.

  17. Ann says:

I almost thought that was a dress/jumpsuit contraption with the boots attached which I think might have been cooler? I don’t know!

  18. Truthiness says:

I’d like the hair to be even more 60s, Valley of the Dolls, use the whole can of Aqua Net environment-be-damned kind of look. I’ve seen enough hair that has been flat ironed to the point of breaking or extensions and wigs to extreme lengths. I think the dead cat hair kind of suits Anne?

  19. Murphy says:

I know you said she’s been wearing Valentino for a long time….how long exactly? Was she wearing it before Devil Wears Prada? B/c if not that may be the reason—Valentino was the only big designer who was willing to make a cameo in the film after Anna Wintour warned everyone not to.

  20. KBJ says:

    Honk for Josh Charles!

  21. RebeccaToo says:

I once locked eyes with Josh Charles in the cosmetic department of Barney’s here in Chicago. He has charisma!

  22. Bread and Circuses says:

I think the dress would have been boring without the matching boots. They’re what stop it being just a colourless sack with some sparkles on it and turn it into a part of an interesting shape.
