Natalie Portman is a cocky rockabilly in V Magazine

natalie1
If you ever wanted to know what Natalie Portman would look like as a rockabilly, here’s the magazine cover of your dreams. Natalie posed for the cover of V Magazine decked out in her best pompadour and “screw you” look. Meh. I think Natalie (at 28 years old) is one of the prettiest girls around, but this cover and the accompanying photos aren’t amazing, in my opinion. The photo shoot was done by Mario Testino, and the interview excerpts are all over the place. Here’s a summary:

Natalie on the short shelf-life of actresses in Hollywood: “You see people who were stars five years ago and already they’re waning. As actresses approach 40, it starts becoming really, really difficult.”

On plastic surgery: She’s still years from that marker, she’s ambivalent about plastic surgery in the future. “I would hope not,” she says of whether she’d ever go under the knife. She does not, however, completely rule it out, explaining that she won’t know how she’ll feel as she ages. While wrinkles aren’t a problem yet, she admits, “if I have a pimple I want to get rid of it.”

Natalie on her “acting” in the Star Wars franchise: “My acting was not exactly respected in those [Star Wars] films but those are the moments when you want to prove yourself again. When people think I suck, it helps.”

On websites poaching her naked body from movie stills: “[O]nline bullsh-t interferes with what I want to do artistically. I’m not opposed to sexuality or nudity in a film, but I’m very opposed to [pr0n] sites and you’re pretty much giving them material if you do any of that.”

On her already-buzzed about sex-filled lesbian role in Black Swan: “It’s not raunchy- it’s extreme.”

[V Magazine interview excerpts from People Magazine, CoverAwards and Radar]

I don’t really have a problem with most of what she’s talking about, but I always hate it when an actor disrespects their own films. It always strikes me as rude and unprofessional. If you hate the job so much, why the f-ck did you take it? Maybe it’s that I used to adore Natalie, but lately every move she’s made has been grating on my nerves. First, she signed the Polanski petition, and then she wrote about a widely-circulated and disseminated piece being a vegetarian for the Huffington Post. In that piece, she defends the notion that eating meat is somehow akin to rape. Seriously. This is what she wrote: “[Jonathan Safran Foer] reminds us that being a man, and a human, takes more thought than just ‘This is tasty, and that’s why I do it.’ He posits that consideration, as promoted by Michael Pollan in The Omnivore’s Dilemma, which has more to do with being polite to your tablemates than sticking to your own ideals, would be absurd if applied to any other belief (e.g., I don’t believe in rape, but if it’s what it takes to please my dinner hosts, then so be it).” Uh, no. This is why Natalie is no longer one of my favorites. If you want to be a vegan or a vegetarian, fine. But by eating a steak, I’m not raping anyone.

I lost respect long time ago. I don’t care that she went to Harward, she sounds like a spoiled immature teen who creates problems because she never had any real one.

  2. manda says:

I didn’t think she was slamming the star wars movies (which, probably need to be slammed), but rather she was slamming her acting in those movies. She certainly wasn’t memorable in those movies, and she and annikin had no chemistry together. She was good in V is for Vendetta!

  3. Firestarter says:

She was on a recent episode of Top Chef, and it only reinforced to me why I dislike her so.

Also, if she is such a serious, artistic actress, WTF is she doing appearing on Top Chef?

ITA Kaiser,I truly dislike when actors dog their own films as well. It is disrespectful to the other peopl who worked on the project with you. I feel that actors often take those roles on because of the big payday, but find it so beneath them artistically.

I will give Jolie credit for taking roles both for content and for exposure and NOT ever complaining about them later on. Portman would do well to STFU, period!

Star Wars movies may not be for everyone, but people do not need to insult them. They have always been visually appealing and entertaining for the masses.

  4. tommysgirl54 says:

Just because you do not understand simple writing construction does not mean you should hate Natalie. It is not her fault you (and many others) did not grasp what she was saying. She NEVER compared meat eating to rape. Learn how to read.

EDIT: You can hate her all you want….just don’t hate because of your own problems understanding what she wrote. I eat meat and I don’t hate her since I can read and understand that she did not compare me to a rapist.

  5. Tess says:

I liked her very much in “The Professional”, which I believe was her first film.

But she lives and breathes that morally superior, faux intellectual attitude of east and west coast elitists.

    Such a turn-off.

  6. Praise St. Angie! says:

of course she “won’t rule out” plastic surgery.

she already had a nose job.

(and a rumored boob enhancement as well, though these pics don’t indicate that.)

  7. M says:

There are some movies that actors know are crap from day one and I like it when they are honest about it. I loved Matt Damon even more when he admitted Stuck on You was definitely not a good movie. LOL

But I will give actors leeway when they criticize their movies because their acting isn’t the only thing that determines whether the final product is good. There are so many variables (writing/script changes, editing, budget, directors and producers, studio pressure/expectation, marketing and promotion, etc) that also have to be considered.

I think Natalie was just saying that people didn’t see her acting in Star Wars as noteworthy and that made her want to be better in future projects. Not a bad thing to say; I think most artists say that at some point.

  8. BitterBetty says:

Just another spoiled, overrated, pseudointellectual snob. Hollywood is full of them.

  9. Toe says:

You guys can hate her all you want, she is still undeniably beautiful.

  10. Pole says:

I’m rapidly loosing respect for her. She should just shut up. She sounds like such a pretentious snob.

  11. princess pea says:

Sure, she’s beautiful if you like that snooty ‘I’m so much better than you’ look. Plus, she’s really pointy. I’m tired of being told how smart she is, and I’m not impressed with her work, personally.

As for the rape/meat thing… I know what she meant to say, tommygirl5, and I realize that her article was essentially a book review. But if she’s so darn smart, she really should have given that a little more thought. There are other moral issues that she could have used as an example, ones that would have been significantly less controversial. She chose that metaphor. She said in the article that this book made her realize she should be a full-on in-your-face activist and set out to make people uncomfortable if they eat meat. Unfortunately, that means she is hurting the vegetarians and vegans who feel that meat-eaters think they are all militant and self-righteous; she is reinforcing the stereotype.

Besides, it makes very little sense in context with her Polanski petitioning; she clearly IS okay with rape if it makes her dinner companions (or directors) happy.

  12. Firestarter says:

I don’t find her disfigured or horrible looking, but she isn’t what I would call beautiful. Notice, I said, what I would call beautiful. She is attractive, but very pointy.(haha Pea thinks so too!)

I think the pictures are not flattering to her. But that is me.

  13. Praise St. Angie! says:

“she clearly IS okay with rape if it makes her dinner companions (or directors) happy.”

    (said in Michael Kelso voice…)

    BURN!

  14. Kayleigh says:

“Natalie on her ‘acting’ in the Star Wars franchise” HAH

  15. fizXgirl314 says:

lol what a dumbass… nobody eats meat because it makes their dinner mates happy… fucking moron! now we’re some kind of sheep because we are doing something that comes inherent with being a human? somebody please shut her up!!!

  16. viper says:

Oh what an annoying hypocrite. I can stand her f-me face either. A very overrated actress.

  17. danielle says:

“she clearly IS okay with rape if it makes her dinner companions (or directors) happy.”

exactly what I was thinking princess pea! And I’ve been a vegetarian for 20 plus years. Portman’s getting on my nerves.

  18. BitterBetty says:

I agree, Firestarter and Pea. she has the face of a wax figure and her body looks prepubescent. she is not ugly by any means but definitively overrated looks wise.

  19. Sakota says:

What is her damage? Anyone on this planet who knows about Star Wars would have given a body part to be in it and do their best. She ridicules it and admits that she didn’t even try to do well, but treated the whole thing with disdain. That is so fucking ungrateful.

If anyone else here had been offered the part of Padme, I am sure (myself as well) would have had parties with fellow castmates and practiced and had a ball doing it. She talks about her acting like it’s some big trial for her, something she endures for the sake of art.

As for her vegan dieting, children, at young ages, need meat as a part of getting as much iron as possible into their diets and body. I am so fucking sick of these self righteous overpaid and underworked idiots trying to dictate to me if whether or not meat is moral.

  20. Huma says:

I will never support her after she publicly supported Roman Polanski.

    NEXT.

  21. TwinkleToes says:

Nice nose job, kid. Brooke Shields went to Princeton, yet nobody thinks she is smart. It’ll all come out eventually what Natalie Herschlog is really all about. Like I’ve said, she didn’t attend M.I.T. Her parents pulled some strings and she got into an Ivy League institution, just like Brooke. I’m so sick of this one and her ethnocentric agenda. She only supported Polanski because he shares her religion. If he wasn’t Jewish, she’d throw him under a bus. If the US went to war with Israel tomorrow, guess who’s side she’s gonna be on, regardless of the situation? Riiiight.

  22. Sakota says:

That’s what disgusts me the most.

  23. Brooke says:

all other considerations notwithstanding, I do like the photos. very high fashion.

  24. Trillion says:

Her face is gorgeous. The second she opens her mouth, it’s kinda wrecked. I was blown away by her in “The Professional” and after that she sucked in everything until “V” came along. She’s especially bad in Closer, acting along side Clive Owen and Jude Law who blew her into the next town’s movie screen.

  25. Celestial says:

I’m sick of people thinking that just because she’s Jewish she must of had a nose job. She was a beautiuful little girl/ pre-teenager and never needed one. It looks the same shape/ size since then. Get over your anti semitism!

But, I’ll agree that at times she comes off very pretentious. ANd I’m put off by the fact she signed the Polanski Petition.

  26. Praise St. Angie! says:

celestial, is has nothing to with anti-semitism.

google “natalie portman plastic surgery” and you’ll see for yourself.

nothing wrong with getting plastic surgery, but don’t lie about it when there are pictures to prove it.

  27. Tess says:

    @TwinkleToes:

Your comments about Portman are out of bounds. They are hateful and bigoted and don’t belong on this site.

  28. Celestial says:

    Praise St Angie:
I’ve looked at those picturs and I still don’t see much difference. Comparing shots of her from when she was pre pubescent or going through puberty,, (The most awkward stage in child developement)to once she became an adult is not a fair comparison. . You grow into your face during that time. I don’t see any major differences in the shape of her nose, which is a tell tell sign to me of plastic surgery. She’s always been a pretty girl and people need to stop being thinking that all beautiful actors and actresses have had plastic surgery…. Just Megan Fox. 😉 I’t’s very obvious that she’s had at least one nose job.. amongst other things.

  29. birdie says:

@ Firestarter … I’m a day or two late on this post so I don’t know if you will read it but I just had to respond to your comment about how Top Chef reinforced why you hate Natalie.

    ME TOO!!!!!!!!

Although, I hate her for other reasons. I find her insufferably pretentious. I completely agree with you about her looks being totally overrated, she isn’t hideous but to me she looks like a million other girls. There is nothing unusual or striking about her, also nothing that deserves the label “beautiful”

As for Top Chef. I watched with my boyfriend and his reaction was “Is Natalie Portman drunk? Is she wasted on drugs? What the f-ck?”

She was a freak. Giggling neurotically, fidgety and awkward, plus the comment “Who is your drug dealer and where can I get some?” Crackhead.

  30. pixiegirl says:

You may not be supporting rape if you eat a steak, but you are certainly supporting an industry that maliciously and systematically murders innocent animals on a daily basis. So I guess you are superior.

  31. pixiegirl says:

    @ Sakota:

The ADA (American Dietetic Association) recently came out with a statement that a vegan diet is safe and healthy for those who are pregnant, nursing, or infants.
    Guess you’re wrong. 🙂

  32. filthycute says:

She says this two nose jobs later? Shut the hell up.

    I cannot stand this twit.

  33. Sakota says:

What is wrong with her and her inability to admit that she isn’t a genius? She has a degree, but that isn’t really something that is unique anymore.

I remember her stating at some point that she shared the Israeli experience or something. Does anyone know anything about that?

  34. teehee says:

Shes just associating eating meat with doig something ethically unconscionable. IE if you can eat meat with a clear conscious knowig how the animals are slaughtered then would you have a clear conscience about another obviously harmful act.
Its a poor extrapolation based on the unspoken premise that to eat meat is to be unethical/unkind (to animals).
I myself have been a big carnivore since I was little. I cant give up meat. But I see she isnt callig meat eaters rapists but prompting them about the reasons most vegetarians choose to be so: for reasons of ethics/conscienciousness because of how the animals are so brutally treated.

The best I can do is select meat that isnt from factory farmed or shot up with drugs or caged animals, and from animals that were naturally fed etc.
And I dont call vegans freaks or arsonists LOL

  35. Ellen says:

    I agree with Claudia.

She used to be one of my role models – but now I would choose Angelina over her any day.

Angelina HAD problems. Yes, she had a privilidged life aswell but she dealt with sh*t and she realised her crazy youth was wrong and she freely admits that it was because she had no purpose and direction that she acted that way.

Natalie comes across as too self-righteous and a bit of a loner.

She’s too intellectual and not enough human.

We’re mammals, carnivores, we’re designed to eat meat like any other animal – part of the food chain.

Even when she started a charity, her interviews focused mainly on explaining micro-economics and name-dropping how she called up Queen Rania to do it with her.

While I admire Natalie’s self-respect, I do not feel any warmth from her persona – she looks downright miserable a lot of the time, whereas Jolie practically glows.

  36. VeganBunny says:

Obviously you are ofended because there is absolutely no moral dilemma for you about eating other animals. That allows you to see as horrible to compare supporting animal eating and supporting rapes. It wouldn’t be eating meat equals raping, regarding the realationship which most people has with the meat industry (which is: i just don’t want to know), it would be eating meat equals knowing my neighbour is raping his wife but that is none of my bussiness. You are not raping anyone, you are a bystander, which is even worst sometimes.
