Zara Tindall got a £200K modeling job with Musto, that’s some curious timing

Zara and Mike Tindall have never had any royal titles. They’ve always been royal-adjacent. Given their athletic careers, one could argue that the money they make from appearances and sponsorships is just part and parcel of being a celebrity-athlete. Except they both profit from being “royal-adjacent” too, in tacky ways. Mike signing onto a reality competition show (I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here) for a (relatively) meager £150,000 is a bad look. It’s an even worse look when producers talk about Mike’s royal connections. Well, interesting news, I guess – Zara Tindall just got a new sponsorship/modeling gig. She’s the face of Musto’s latest collection. Musto is a sporty/sailing gear clothing company. According to the Mail, she’s being paid £200,000 for the modeling gig. Pretty conveniently timed just after her grandmother’s death too.

The beautiful Zara Tindall may be a busy mother-of-three, but the royal has recently been busy in her working life too; she is the face of British-heritage brand Musto’s Autumn Winter 2022 lifestyle campaign.

Their AW22 Lifestyle Collection draws on Musto’s fifty years of sailing heritage, creating garments that combat extreme weathers in the harshest environments, and utilises those technical fabrications and expertise to create items that not only look incredibly stylish but ensure outstanding protection and performance in any conditions.

Speaking about their latest collection, Prince William and Prince Harry’s cousin explained: “I’m used to being outside in the elements all day and I know I can rely on Musto to keep me warm and dry. My Musto kit is an essential part of my wardrobe, both when I am riding and also for everyday life – the kit is perfect for any type of weather but also looks good and I wouldn’t want to be without it.”

Zara also gave an insight into her childhood, revealing she feels “very lucky” to have met incredible people along the way.

“I definitely remember having a lot of fun and being able to experience a lot of things and I’m very lucky that my parents were able to do that for us or whatever they were involved in,” she said, before adding: “Whether it was the horses or sailing or travelling or the people we met along the way. I was very lucky to meet incredible people which then you learn more from as you go along through life.”

[From Hello]

I’m including the Musto video below – she talks about wanting to get her kids into sailing, and how her role model is her mother. I haven’t heard Zara’s voice in a while and I forgot that she has that glass-cutter posh accent. She’s actually a good model for sporty gear, and in general, I think it’s nice that Musto hired a 41-year-old mother of three to model their gear. That being said, she’s definitely leaning into the whole “royal-adjacent” stuff too. It’s weird how there are so many different rules for different people!

Her eyebrows make me sad, and I say that as someone who butchered theirs in the 90s.

  2. girl_ninja says:

These people are all hypocrites and opportunist racists. I don’t happen to think that Zara is pretty at all. And her husband is a bellend.

    • Mtl.Ex.Pat says:

Agree on all counts. While I applaud her for her accomplishments in the equestrian field, she certainly started well ahead of the average person in terms of the advantages. She & her husband always struck me as pieces of work.

    • Lorelei says:

I mean, she’s so inconsequential that even Hello describes her like this:

“Speaking about their latest collection, Prince William and Prince Harry’s cousin explained…”

Have to get William and Harry in there somewhere to make anyone give a sh!t!

  3. Jensa says:

Yep, the timing is not a coincidence. (Ditto for Mike’s reality TV gig). There will be a lot more of this sort of thing to come.

  4. Concern Fae says:

Reading all the stories this morning, I am understanding of why royals used to marry off younger siblings to other countries to cement alliances. They definitely seem to cause trouble when they stick around at home.

  5. Becks1 says:

The ONE nice-ish thing I will say is that I don’t think this is related to the Queen’s death, Zara has done various brand ambassadorships for at least the past 10 years or so, probably longer. I remember she got a sponsorship deal for a stroller company when Mia was born, lol. So this is at least consistent for her, and it does seem like a good partnership.

NOW that said, this is absolutely about there being different rules for different members of the royal family in any capacity. Zara was never a working royal, was never going to be one (so different from B&E) and I don’t think has ever even attended so much as a garden party, so mayyyybe you could argue that there is a line there between her and the BRF. But she absolutely benefits from her position in the family and her role as the queen’s oldest granddaughter. But even with all that said, now H&M are no longer working royals, do not attend even garden parties, live in a different country, etc etc. And just imagine the outcry if Meghan was named a brand ambassador for Jimmy choo. That’s where the hypocrisy and racism really becomes so blatant and all the excuses about working vs nonworking royal etc etc become apparent as just that….excuses.

(I don’t think she’ll do JC, its literally the only shoe brand I could think of, JC or Manolos, LOL.)

Charles should start paying his relatives to keep a low profile.
It’s going to be open season on each other in the future, dirt sold to the highest bidder.

    • Julia K says:

Charles has made it clear, he is downsizing and that means you are all on your own, kiddoes. No more handouts or allowances. Harry saw this coming and knew he was going to rely on Charles, then Wm for support. Thank goodness he and Meghan left.

  7. aquarius64 says:

All these royals (and adjacents) are getting these money grabs. Charles is tightening the purse strings? I can see why the family resent the Sussexes; what the Tindalls are making is chump change by comparison.

  8. Jake says:

“I’m happiest when I’m properly at home…or traveling.” What???

  9. one of the marys says:

I read this somewhere that allowed comments and stopped reading at a comment along the lines of ‘she and her husband are a hard working couple unlike that pair of grifters in California’
I guess I’m finally accepting that the British tabloids have a formula that works $ for them and they ain’t changing it. They are getting further removed from reality all the time

  10. Michele says:

I don’t hear a posh British accent, at all. I hear something “educated” and possibly mid to upper class, but that could be due to living with Tindell. She also sounds rather boring.

    • Same says:

Same. Heard a wee bit of Scottish accent, but absolutely do not hear anything resembling posh or sophisticated.

  11. Chantal says:

Last week didn’t one of the tabs say she was getting £500,000 (after there was speculation she was getting 1-2 million pounds)? It’ll probably be even lower next week! And damn…”Prince William and Prince Harry’s cousin😂😂 no shoutout re being the new Kang’s niece?
Kudos for making their own money and for publicly trading in on their royal adjacent status. Now leave the Sussexes alone!
C-Rex- at this point it should be obvious even to you that Netflix and the Sussexes are the least of your worries. Your struggling relatives are going to come for you bc they know you won’t look out for them. They are going to soon start selling damaging secrets. Mostly about C-Rex bc he’s arrogant and stupid enough to think he’s untouchable bc he’s the king but POW is the same way so good times! Also, neither generate any feelings of loyalty.
He/they have been FA with little to no consequences for far too long. Now its time for more FO

  12. Tattletale says:

Her accent is far from cut glass. It’s pretty down to earth tbh. Kate’s faux accent is far more posh than Zara’s.

  13. Cessily says:

I just think of her and her husband as the homely duo, but I will say she looks better in the sportswear than any hat she has ever worn. I guess they have to make a living somewhere if they ever want to leave Moms house.
I really wish the queens Will wasn’t hidden for the next century, I’m curious if she left anything at all to her grandchildren.
It is sad that this will be acceptable but the Sussex’s will be vilified and condemned for everything they do by the rags on that island.

  14. L84Tea says:

The way people are twisting themselves in pretzels to justify the hypocrisy on social media is astounding.

  15. Ravensdaughter says:

Weird. Being in the horsey set, I’m surprised Barbour didn’t snatch her up.
She isn’t beautiful IMO, but she is attractive and very sporty (London Olympics silver medalist!), so I can see her endorsing a line like this. I don’t think this is sleazy or inappropriate. Her hubby, on the other hand-D-list celeb!

  16. Gem says:

This might be a new contract, but it’s not a new collaboration. She has been a brand ambassador since 2009 and she had her own line with Musto in 2010. Grifters gonna grift!

    • Anastasia says:

Is this a grift though? The woman is not only an Olympian, but she’s a medalist, and it seems like Musto is an outdoorsy brand, which seem pretty on point for Anne’s family

  17. Molly says:

This is the most inane and cringe-worthy ad I’ve seen in quite a while. So many words and nothing of substance.

  18. Over it says:

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I need to behold harder because I just don’t see it. That’s all I got.

    • Call_Me_AL says:

Pretty is as pretty does. She is pretty on the outside but could be beautiful if she didn’t act so ugly.

  19. Nicki says:

Not a drop of introspection in the clip, or even awareness of her immense privilege. To me she comes off as utterly clueless.

  20. Torquil says:

Everyone being all “Wow, can’t believe there are different rules!!!!” Is being a willful dolt. Zara has never had a royal title (her mother, unlike Meghan and Harry, actually went through with the stated intention of wanting her kids to have a “normal childhood”). She’s not in line to succeed to the throne. And she has never received taxpayer funding or taxpayer-funded security. M+H wanted all the perks of being major members of the royal family with none of the restrictions. No one gets that. They now have exactly what M+H have: the right to monetize being royalty-adjacent, without sucking on the public teat.

    • D says:

I hear what you’re saying because she was never titled, but she does get the perks. She lives on her mother’s estate which was bought by the Queen and was renovated by the Crown. I’m sure it is also maintained with Crown funds. Perhaps she pays rent, but she is certainly getting the use of all the grounds for free. I don’t have any problem with them trying to earn money, but it’s disingenuous to suggest they don’t use being royal-adjacent to their advantage.

    • Marie says:

She actually is in the line of succession for the throne including her children. The only reason she’s not called princess is because she was born from Anne since titles are passed through the male lines so Harry is entitled to make a living just like her and Mike.

    • notasugarhere says:

She lived rent-free in mummy’s taxpayer-funded townhouse in London for years. In fact, she and her brother and their families live there whenever they want. She also lives rent-free on mummy’s estate, illegally fixed up with Crown Estate funds. An entire estate still secured with taxpayer funds because mummy is a working royal. The closing of the original Gatcombe eventing trials, reopening under a contract with Zara’s Australian gig, is also questionable. What it does is eventually enable Zara and Peter to inherit the estate without paying taxes.

    • equality says:

How are H&M not giving their children a normal childhood? Zara’s privileged childhood was far from “normal” also. What H&M wanted was to PAY THEIR OWN WAY and still rep TQ part-time much like TQ’s cousins and Bea and Eugenie. At least get the story straight.

  21. Amy Bee says:

She just comes off as very privileged. I guess Musto’s clientele are the aristos, those are only people this ad appeals to.

  22. Mrs.Krabapple says:

Yep, a CLEAR double standard exists. But they are a “100% not racist” family? What cr@p.

  23. HamsterJam says:

I thought that was a really well done advertisement.

I mean, if you are going to “Sell your royalty” or “Sell your royalty adjacent-ness” that was a pretty low key way to do it.

Also it cracks me up because everyone thinks she is beautiful because she doesn’t look ANYTHING like her mother.

Her dad must have had some really powerful non-royal genes

    • notasugarhere says:

Zara looks exactly like young Anne. They’re pretty much identical to each other and to Mary, Countess of Harewood (daughter of George V and Queen Mary of Teck). Go look up pics of all three of them as teens.

  24. MaltiMom says:

She looks lovely, the music is odd, her cheating husband has a punchable face, and those clothes are gorgeous. I would seriously buy some of those jackets if I knew there was any chance I could afford them. They look super comfortable and flattering. I’m not even going to bother checking out the prices.

  25. jferber says:

At least she’s not wearing a hot pink outfit to a 9/11 Memorial in the U.S. as that idiot Kate did. That’s the highest praise I can must for Zara. On the down side: Mike. Just NO for marrying the missing link.

  26. JustBitchy says:

Jesus wept, she is more than leaning into her royal adjacent spot. She outright talks about what her parents did/provided for her.

  27. sparrow says:

“The beautiful Zara…”. This “beautiful” gets thrown around a lot for members of the RF. She is pleasant looking. She isn’t beautiful. Let’s face it, she wouldn’t have got this job if she weren’t who she is.

  28. Sveza says:

Is it me or this infamous “posh” accent sounds like they have a sinus infection? Charles sounds the same way. Get some
    Flonase already.
