Angela Bassett won in Pamella Roland at the Golden Globes: flawless

Angela Bassett won Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture last night at the Globes for her work in Wakanda Forever. You can see her speech here. I loved how her husband of over 25 years, Courtney B. Vance, was taping her on his phone as she accepted her award! Hopefully she’s the one to beat at this year’s Academy Awards. We’ll get the nominations on January 24th and the Oscars air on March 12th.

Angela was in a sleeveless Pamella Roland silver metallic fitted gown. She looked so good and her styling was perfection. She is 64 years old!

Youngest EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson presented that category, Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. She was in a striking CD Greene gown made up of mirrored rectangular gold tiles. I love the shoulder pads!

Angela’s costar Letitia Wright was in a sleek Prada gown with a burnt orange watercolor-like design. I like how abstract and unique this dress is. The color blocking is risky and could easily veer messy and yet it reads elegant, if that makes sense. It works.

Pregnant with twins Hilary Swank was also in Prada, in a green v-neck sleeveless gown with two long black bows trailing from each shoulder. I’ve seen the pilot of the series she was nominated for, Alaska Daily, and it was good! I haven’t gone back to it as there are so many other shows to watch but I’m writing this to remind myself to. She’s so cute with her husband, Philip Schneider! Here’s a link to an article with more about him and how they met – it was a setup! They’re both so outdoorsy and I loved their Architectural Digest profile.

Emma D’arcy was also nominated for Best Television Actress — Drama (that went to Zendaya, who wasn’t there) for House of the Dragon which begs the question as to when the major awards shows are going to move to gender neutral categories. Emma was in an Acne Studios look featuring an oversized jacket, trousers and a skirt. They said on the red carpet that it was a nod to being nonbinary. As an 80s child these giant suits are giving me life.

Emma’s sort-of costar (she plays a younger version of Emma’s character Rhaenyra Targaryen), Milly Alcock, was in Givenchy. Honestly I went to bed around 10:15 last night (I’m on the east coast) and missed it when House of The Dragon won Best Drama. Apparently Milly seemed kind of drunk on stage. The drinks were definitely flowing in the audience.

Angela and Swank look perfect. I’m here for Alcock’s kitten heels.

I shed a tear of emotion for adorable Hillary Swank. She’s fought so hard for that pregnancy. She’s blossoming and so lovable. She has two Oscars on the way.

  2. Deb says:

Angela has been one of my girl crushes for so long. How does she never age?? I want to know where she’s getting the virgin blood and unicorn tears she’s clearly consuming…because her beauty never fades.

    Angela and JH looked amazing

Angela, Jennifer and Hilary look great. The rest meh…

I’d like Laeticia’s if it was cocktail length

  5. Carmen says:

I love Angela Basset’s dress and she was wearing the hell out of it, but I have to ‘fess up — I fell asleep threee times while I was watching the movie.

  6. Tootsie McJingle says:

Bravo to Hilary Swank for even having the energy to attend the Golden Globes. I’m not sure how far along she is, but I was pregnant with twins in 2021 and I looked and felt ready to pop by about 6 months along and you couldn’t have paid me to dress up (gorgeously) and spend all night at the Golden Globes. Props to Kaley Cuoco too!

    • Lady Baden-Baden says:

Meh – everyone’s different. For the most part, I was lucky enough to sail through my pregnancy (also twins) and got cross with everyone assuming I wouldn’t have the energy to attend social gatherings!

  7. KS says:

Honestly Courtney’s social media has a tendency sometimes to turn into Angela Bassett fan pages, and I totally love it. He’s fine with her being the amazing, beautiful star everyone loves, even though he’s also super talented and underrated.

  8. Well Wisher says:

    Simply beautiful.
    Ever one of these individuals.

  9. Lucy2 says:

    Angela is perfection.
I would like JHud’s more if the top were a bit simpler.
    Hilary looks good!

  10. Lady Baden-Baden says:

Love Jennifer Hudson’s dress! Hate Letitia Wright’s. Hilary Swank looks lovely.

Angela and Leticia look gorgeous! I wish there was a view of Hilary from the front so I could see her dress better. She looks so happy!

  14. Case says:

Angela Bassett is so stunning all the time, and I loved this dress. Probably my favorite look of the night. I also loved Letitia Wright’s and Jennifer Hudson’s dresses. Letitia’s in particular is so fun and youthful, and I love seeing unique silhouettes on the carpet.

  15. sparrow says:

I love that orange dress. Wow! I just wish it didn’t have a split. I hate them. Otherwise, the colour and fabric are wonderful.

  16. TIFFANY says:

Hilary looked fantastic but whew chile, I was tired for her. Walking a red carpet, in Cali humidity and then sitting through a 3 hours ceremony with shoulder to shoulder people.

I wanted to just give her a bed.

  17. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I never stopped the 80s oversized. 😁 I’m a constant mashup of decades. Love and live lol.

  18. Rnot says:

Angela is so glamorous and ageless that it’s unbelievable. She’s got that effortless elegance thing.

  19. Solidgold says:

Angela looks beautiful, so very glamorous.

Letitia dress looks amateur, some cheap fabric stitched together and tie dyed. I can’t believe that is Prada.

  20. Boxy Lady says:

It’s kind of amazing to remember that both Angela Bassett and Madonna were born on 16 August 1958.

  21. ML says:

You just blew my mind this morning with that info, Boxy Lady. Angela Bassett is aging beautifully. Or not aging? Wow!
I love LW’s orange dress. It’s elegant and unique.

  22. J says:

    Ángela is stunning

  23. NeoCleo says:

I’m stating the obvious, but this woman is so regal. She really does look like a queen.
