Princess Beatrice is the new (royal?) patron for the British Skin Foundation

Days ago, we heard that Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank are considering a move to California. They’ve had one foot out the door for a few years now, and they’re already splitting their time between the UK and Portugal. As much as I genuinely believe that Eugenie is prepared to Eugexit the UK, I also believe that her sister has been auditioning for “working royal” status for more than a year. Beatrice and her husband Edoardo seem especially keen to move in royal circles, undertake royal work and have a public role. I kind of wonder if King Charles is softening a bit on the issue. Speaking of, here are some photos of Beatrice at the Blizard Institute at Queen Mary University of London today. She was just announced as the new patron for the British Skin Foundation.

Princess Beatrice stepped out on Tuesday for the first time in her newly appointed role as patron of the British Skin Foundation.

Beatrice, 34, visited London’s prestigious Blizard Institute at Queen Mary University of London to see first-hand how scientists are tackling the UK rising skin cancer numbers.

Speaking about her new patronage, the Princess said: “I am so pleased to be able to support the work of the British Skin Foundation. I have admired their work and research for many years, and they have helped so many people through the foundations pioneering efforts. I am grateful to be working with them, to learn as much as I can about their ground-breaking endeavours.”

[From Hello]

Is this the most prestigious of royal patronages? Nope, but that’s exactly why Beatrice could take it. Queen Camilla didn’t want it, and the Princess of Wales does f–k all. This is probably the kind of patronage which would have gone to Princess Anne or the Countess of Wessex. It’s interesting that it went to Bea. Maybe King Charles understands that his slimmed-down monarchy is pretty old, lazy and boring.

I don’t hate this. I’m obsessed with skincare and I wear sunscreen every day, even here in London. Many Brits look at me funny when I say I wear it daily, but my skin is already thanking me!

Charles would be smart to realise that his slimmed-down monarchy is not interesting or competent or nice enough to warrant the amount of money they receive.

Also, I think Bea may be the best person for this role? I can’t think of another royal who has nice enough skin to be the face of it (pun intended!!)

I wonder how many were/are smokers, besides the obvious?

    • C says:

LOL you’re like me, I love skincare and research so I looked at this and thought “Wow, I’d actually enjoy this!” Also, it’s definitely outside the box of what they normally do.

Does Beatrice actually have a real job or is she a SAHM? No one ever mentions a career or business she works for.

    • Swaz says:

The British Media is more interested in knowing if the Royals in Montecito were invited to a birthday party 😣

    • paintergal says:

Princess Beatrice is Vice President of Partnerships and Strategy at tech company Afiniti. Beatrice has her own page on Afiniti’s website, which states that she is responsible for the management of the company’s strategic partnerships and company growth through unique initiatives and client development.

      • lanne says:

that’s a job description that sounds impressive but reveals exactly nothing about the specific work she does.

      • Jen says:

I can’t find her page on Afiniti. Any external links I’ve seen for it are 404.

      • Annalise/Typical Virgo says:

I would LOVE to know what, besides being royal, qualified Beatrice for her totally-legit-sounding 🙄 gig as Vice President of whatever it was. Where did she work prior to this gig, if anywhere? And for how long? Who the hell starts out at a job as Vice President of ANYTHING? (Even the Vice President of the US starts out in the Senate or Congress or somewhere)

Honestly I think this sounds like a cushy job with a nice paycheck that requires B to do very little except show up once in a while, and the company gets to have the prestige of a royal working for them. Win win. Sort of

      • Visa Diva says:

Basically her job is using her network and glad-handing potential buyers and sellers. Its the type of job someone with a large contact list gets. Its a common role for the well connected

That is actually a really good question because i don’t think i have ever seen a job mentioned before

  3. StellainNH says:

I think Bea would be a good working royal. She would certainly put the effort in more than the lazy Wailsies

  4. Lucy says:

I’m sorry, I laughed. I know skin cancer is real and deadly, I’m a redhead and get full body skin checks every year, but the name just sounds like a Monty Python skit.

Of course Bea and Edo want to pick up the Royal crumbs, he’s a hustler and needs the business opportunities his father in law can’t openly court anymore.

  5. equality says:

The RF didn’t announce it either on royal.uk or on SM, so seems to have nothing to do with them. The foundation seems to have a lot of corporate partners. Nothing about royal connections on their website outside of Bea. This is her own initiative and time. She deserves credit for not being like “working” royals.

    • kirk says:

She’s involved in a number of private fundraising, profile raising and other charitable endeavors. Saw something with her teaming up with Swedish royalty for some Dyslexia event.

  6. Jais says:

So when she takes on a patronage does she get paid a certain sum for it? I’m assuming she gets royal security for the outing but does she get money as well?
Okay just saw @equality’s comment above. She’s a patron but not a royal patron?

  7. girl_ninja says:

Maybe King Charles understands that his slimmed-down monarchy is pretty old, lazy and boring. That part. Good for Bea. Unlike Katy she actually seems to WANT to work.

  8. Well Wisher says:

I read the headline in the fail. The power dynamic is tricky in this one, on one hand KP has been peaking constantly about her father.
Even when both sisters pleaded for their father to have some involvement in the institution, it was repeated in mocking tones.
Another instance is when sad little man was opining¿ about the who would live where after the Queen died, he dismissively noted that they will not be included in any of the royal palaces, the constant threat of Andrew’s eviction from the Royal Lodge.

    So what changed?
What about the slimmed down monarchy?
Does it mean the chosen ones are unable to ‘do the job’?

I assume Eugenie did not accept the offer, maybe do not like the terms of engagement and her plans were swiftly leaked….

Would both sisters have proper seats at the coronation?
Beatrice is now a working royal??
No more ranting from the heir? Does it mean that Eugenie is considered to be one Harry’s ‘side’?

    Stay tuned…

  9. Cessily says:

Has anyone seen a photo of her daughter? I don’t recall seeing anything except a photo of her walking a pram. The rota can start screeching for that now that she is going to be a “working royal”.
As for her taking patronages, good luck because the higher royals are so horrible they always need a scapegoat and I have a feeling she will become one. Especially if she starts having more media attention than them.

  10. Annalise/typical Virgo says:

I would think Charles would jump at bringing Beatrice into the fold so he could use her stepson to prove that they’re “very much not a racist family.”
I see a whole lot of using that poor little boy as a prop, in the near future.

  11. Esmerelda says:

I think both Bea and Eugenie are doing the best they can, and if they’re on different but complementary paths they can help each other down the line. I wish them both well.
For what it’s worth, I think Bea would be an excellent working royal, and perhaps giving her a role will help convince Andrew to shut up and stay home.

    • Annalise/Typical Virgo says:

@Esmerelda- I actually agree that Beatrice would be a good working royal, because I think she actually wants to be one, unlike her cuz and his wife. She wears interesting fashion and isn’t hard on the eyes, too, which helps. Whenever i see some rota lamenting about how H&M left W&K “high and dry” and now W&K have SO much work to do, poor things are spread just SO thin, I’m always like “there is a willing and eager couple RIGHT THERE who would happily take up some of the work. What is the problem with letting B&E take up some patronages or something??” I think that Charles has ALWAYS loathed Andrew, and has therefore always kept Andrews daughters at arms length. It’s like he thinks B&E are vulgar and not fit to be working royals just because their dad is. And ftr, I don’t think B would be happy about her stepson used as a prop, but I could still see it happening, esp with all the evidence that they ARE in fact a very racist family

  12. Jay says:

This doesn’t seem like a “royal” appointment or patronage, but perhaps it is something of a proof of concept for Beatrice as the accompanying photos look very much like the standard ones that we see from a royal event. Maybe it’s a sort of trial balloon? As always though, I think Andrew is the problem – allowing Beatrice to be part of the stripped down monarchy also gives access to her father.

Of the remaining U.K. Windsors, I think Beatrice is the most credible to give skincare tips. And, it’s a small thing, but as their patron could the organization not have found a lab coat that fit Beatrice? This one is giving take your daughter to work day vibes.

  13. Amy Bee says:

Royals, working or not are allowed to have patronages. It’s why Harry and Meghan were allowed to keep their non-Royal Patronages. Beatrice and Eugenie both have a few patronages. The notion of “for working royals only”, only came in when Harry and Meghan left. I don’t believe Beatrice wants to be a working royal she has the best of both worlds right now.

    • Okay says:

@Amy Bee Not so, that happened when Charles wanted a slimmed down monarchy in 2011-2014 and pushed everyone else off the balcony including the York’s. Justifying all of it with them not being working royals but KC3 got in the queens ear and almost stripped the York sisters of HRH and Princess titles until EQ2’s fav kind Andrew put this foot down and they were allowed to keep the titles but now were expected to get their own jobs, would lose their security detail (happened years later) and would not be on the balcony but were still invited to royal events. Until now Kate had to curtsy to the two HRH blood princesses because she was only a Duchess. I still wonder why the QE2 didn’t give Kate princess so that the heir’s wife would not be subjected to that stuff. Why Will didn’t say anything either …. hrmmm

  14. Tennyson.Sarah says:

Edo probably expected a title to come with his marriage to Beatrice &is probably still after a title.
There must have been some valid reasons for the Queen not to reactivate, if I may say, the short-lived family title.
His great-grandfather was granted an earldom in 1913 that lasted until 1946.
Some 100+ years before that there was another Count Mozzi, but both the Mozzi and Mapelli descend from centuries of wealthy Piedmontese merchants.
On his English mother’s side his other great grandfather had also been knighted.
Andrew is also probably pushing for his grandchildren to be knighted and have a title.
    We’ll see at the Coronation!

  15. Roo says:

I hope she runs with this one. There’s so much good she could do with this patronage. I think some people still don’t take sunscreen seriously unless they’re at the beach.

And really, if Khate weren’t such a mean girl, they could even combine their projects to encourage and provide for sunscreen for children.

  16. Maremotrice says:

There’s probably a personal connection here for Beatrice – her godmother died of skin cancer.
