Ayesha Curry realized she shouldn’t try to compete with her husband’s fitness

Ayesha Curry has been really focused on fitness recently. She lost 35 pounds last year and she’s partnered with MyFitnessPal and talked about her plan to make smaller fitness goals/resolutions. Most recently, Ayesha appeared on the Rachel Ray Show and talked more about her fitness journey, saying that in the beginning she was trying to compete with her husband and do the same stuff he did to stay fit. But she quickly realized that was obviously untenable.

Ayesha Curry is opening up about what she’s learned throughout her fitness journey.

In a recent appearance on the Rachael Ray Show, the chef and cookbook author, 33, discussed how she was finally able to focus on her health after having three children — son Canon, 4, and daughters Ryan, 7, and Riley, 10. However, she said the journey started off rough, admitting that she tried to change her workout routines in order to keep up with her husband, NBA star Stephen Curry.

“One of the biggest things that was a hindrance was that I was competing — in my own weird, twisted way — with my very athletic husband and thinking I needed to do all of the things that he was doing in order to find my balance and to stay fit,” the mom of three explained.

“It took me so long to realize, no, my fitness journey and my plan are gonna look how that looks for me. And for me, it’s less high intensity workouts and it’s not doing the diet thing,” Curry continued. “It’s living that 80/20 life and making sure that I’m enjoying life’s celebratory moments and then in between making healthier choices. For me, it couldn’t be so rigid and I found the best results when I kind of loosened up a little bit.”

Ray then added she can’t — and shouldn’t — feel the need to keep up with her husband.

“Everyone’s different whether you’re a man or a woman or older or younger, you gotta find the thing that’s right for you,” the daytime star added.

I chucked a bit at “my very athletic husband.” That’s understating it a bit — Stephen is a professional athlete. It is literally his job to stay extremely fit. He is compensated for doing so and has the time to do so since it is his job. Of course Ayesha can’t compete. Even without having three kids it’s difficult to compete with that. But I agree with what she says, everyone is different and you have to find what works for you. And that can even vary week to week or day to day. Like Ayesha, I don’t like to diet much, but unlike her I do love a high intensity workout because then that’s less time spent doing it. But I agree with Ayesha that people should enjoy life’s moments and have the slice of cake or whatever. It’s exhausting and thankless to make only healthy choices all the time. And I find the best results when I’m working out for the sake of working out and feeling good versus working out for a particular look, outfit, etc.

I’m not much of a sports fan, so while I know who her husband is, I know very little about him. I first became aware of her, though, through her lifestyle magazine, which I liked. They don’t mention it here, so I assume it went under?

Apparently the parent company was exploiting the staff on their other magazines by having them “double dip” to work on Sweet July for free. The last issue I received was attached to her subscription box, but now I think she’s pivoted to turning the brand more Goop (online info+direct sales) and less Martha Stewart (magazines). I think she has a coffee shop in the bay area now.

She is really striking. And her figure looks amazing. The pic in front of the White House really showcases her weight loss.

They are such a sweet couple. I love that they’ve been together since they were teenagers, that she’s not some requisite lingerie model athletes always seem to get with once they’re rich.
Not that there’s anything wrong with being a lingerie model. If I had the body for it I’d be lingerie modeling all OVER the place. I would refuse to wear clothes.

I love the goofy faces they are making in one of the slides! I don’t know much about her but her personality really shines through.

Also, while she looks lovely now she also looked great when she was a different size. She’s just lovely at any weight, but I’m glad she’s finding a routine that works for her.

she looks great here. and she looked great before too! glad it sounds like she’s finding a healthy balance and embracing fitness for herself. so much of hollywood/entertainment is dieting for a role or to fit a certain body type and i hope she can enjoy life and fitness together.

I found this sentiment very relatable. My guy has been working out for almost 30 years and his physique is incredible. That coupled with the fact we age differently does creep in my mind once in awhile.

Found this relatable too. My husband is a former triathlete and very committed to his workout routine. I tried keeping up at the beginning but realized after many years, and some CrossFit injuries, that we can workout differently. I’m not here trying to crush PR’s, just staying active and healthy. I’d rather be hiking, practicing yoga, or lifting light weights most days than going hard and having to nurse a pulled muscle or injury and then have to start all over again.

My hubby met her and Steph at an event about 4 years ago. Said she was very sweet. Very open and chatty, and absolutely drop dead gorgeous in person.

They seem like such a happy couple who truly love each other.

LOL this feels so relatable! When we started dating, my husband was a semi-pro soccer player, a personal trainer, and had been an athlete his entire life. I… was on the equestrian team at college so I was technically an athlete but was not well-versed in fitness and had never run a mile. I came from a family that did not live a healthy lifestyle.

We’ve been together 16 years now. Wow! I’ve been working out all this time, thanks to his guidance early on (at my request) and his cheerleading. But I found my own way. I don’t try to keep up with him on runs anymore. I go to my own bootcamps. I have my own diet plan. I have run long races–that I trained for by myself. And it works a lot better for me. You have to find what’s realistic and helpful for your lifestyle and your body.

PS She is so beautiful and they’re a really cute couple.

I like this couple a lot. He, of course, is an elite, world-class athlete. He seems to respect and love Ayesha dearly and is a real family man. Plays golf with President Obama. She is amazing, too. She does her own cooking show, has public chats with Vice President Harris and she has done really, really well on her own fitness journey. Love this family.
