Margot Robbie wore Armani, not Chanel, to the Oscars: improved or no difference?

It’s funny and ridiculous that the Oscar headlines about Margot Robbie are “Margot puts on a brave face after being snubbed for an Oscar nomination!” Literally, she’s been trying to do everything possible to make people forget about how badly Babylon was received and how much money was lost. She’s been successful too – I barely even thought about her connection to Babylon last night. Onwards and upwards, girl. Speaking of, it looks like Margot has finally left her Chanel contract in the dust. Margot + Chanel = one of the weirdest brand ambassadorships ever. I get why it made sense on paper, but the collab always fell flat. Last night, Margot wore Armani… and I’m not sure this is much better, honestly. She didn’t even walk the carpet.

Now, Michelle Williams wore Chanel. And it was just as twee as you would expect. I thought Michelle had broken the spell of wispy, light dresses but she backslid on this one.

Vanessa Hudgens wore vintage Chanel. Do you think she laughed when her ex lost Best Actor? I’m petty – I would have laughed.

Ugh Michelle needs to stop this. I think there’s a way to stay true to one’s style without getting trapped in an endless cycle of ridiculously redundant little girl fairy dresses.

Margot looks awful. Amazing how shitty styling can make one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood look bad.

Vanessa looks great IMO. She is usually a miss for me but I love the structured topknot with the simple elegance of that dress. Lovely.

    • Meghan says:

I really liked Michelle Williams’ dress but I would love to have seen her with brown/dark brown hair.

  2. Jais says:

Vanessa looks really good good in the vintage chanel. Michelle’s dress looked like something she would wear. I like the collar of the cape? I think it’s a cape. Margot is stunning but I rarely like what she wears.

  3. Toniko says:

Margot can’t pose to save her life.

    • DouchesOfCornwall says:

exactly what I keep saying. It doesnt matter who she wears, how pretty the dress is, she just can’t model. it’s always flat and bland

      • BothSidesNow says:

It’s possible that Margo simply freezes when she poses. Even though she is an actor it doesn’t automatically make you capable of posing. Though IDK.

    • Lizzie says:

Thank you, I have always wondered why she is so average on the ‘red’ carpet, yet she is so stunning. I think her styling is always the same.

  4. laurie says:

This may be mentioned in other posts, but that “champagne “ carpet was awful. So many dresses looked washed out on it.

  5. Emmi says:

On Margot: I understand the middle part is how you show you’re on trend but as an elder Millennial who will NEVER move away from her side part, I say there are other hairstyles. This isn’t for everyone. She is a gorgeous woman but looks positively drab from the neck up. And generally uncomfortable?

Michelle’s doing her thing. It’s not for me.

In general, they did these ladies dirty with that vomit-colored carpet. Oof.

    • SusieQ says:

Fellow elder Millennial here. They will have to pry my side part from my cold, dead hands. My side part covers up the white hairs that have started to sprout.

    • VegasSchmegas says:

My husband and I both agreed. It was tan. A tan carpet. Dumb.

  6. Becks1 says:

Michelle Williams looks fine but boring – as in, I feel like we’ve seen her wear that same dress a dozen times before.

Vanessa Hudgens looks amazing but I had to google to see who her ex is, LOL. I was like, not Colin Farrell, surely?

    • TeamMeg says:

I don’t know who it is, either!

    • molly says:

Vanessa’s dress is pretty, but SHE makes it amazing. There’s something to be said for showing up, smiling, and looking pleased to be there. So many celebs could take that cue.

Regarding the ex, yes, Austin Butler. During their (8 YEAR) relationship, Vanessa told the story of hearing Elvis on the radio and telling Austin he should play him in a movie. When Austin told the exact story in January, he told it as a “friend” encouraging him.

The internet was NOT having any of this Vanessa-erasure, and he begrudgingly clarified it was her shortly afterwards.

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ molly, what a douche move, especially after EIGHT years together??? Good for her as she looked stunning last night!!!

    • BQM says:

      Austin butler

  7. CamNic says:

Vanessa should be enjoying her life to the extent that she doesn’t care one way or the other.

  8. Normades says:

Some people look striking in black and dark makeup but Margot is not one of them, yet she keeps on doing it over and over. She needs a new stylist that will put her in some color on the red carpet.

    • Pam says:

She also looked better as a blond. Right now her hair is too dark and just kind of hangs there. She was SO striking as a blond.

  9. lucy2 says:

I like Vanessa’s. Margot’s and Michelle’s are fine but nothing exciting. Michelle’s has some pretty detailing, but overall the whole look is a bit washed out. I think she’d be stunning in a bolder color.

  10. Lizzie says:

I might be the only one who finds Michelle Wiliams look exquisite. I just wish we could see her dress better. Vanessa, as always, looks stunning.

    • Kimmy says:

I also thought Michelle looked great. It’s twee/Elsa cos play, but I found it looked beautiful in motion and up close.

Margot looks so stiff!!! Like the dress is wearing her. Elizabeth Olson did black and it had some movement to it that I loved!

I’m in love with this look on Vanessa! Love the simple styling.

    • tealily says:

I thought Michelle looked beautiful. It’s the kind of thing she does all the time, but a really good version of it. I get why people thought it was boring, but in a vacuum I agree it was exquisite.

Vanessa looks gorgeous. The best I’ve seen her! She beautiful, but I don’t normally love her styling.

    • BQM says:

I liked it too. Especially with that necklace. I thought she and Michelle yeoh looked ethereal and gorgeous in their white dresses and diamonds.

    • dj says:

The best I have ever see Michelle Williams is when she was up for Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Brokeback Mountain. I’m beginning to think Heath Ledger had really encouraged her to take the risk dressing in the gorgeous canary yellow dress (with generous v neck) and equally gorgeous red lip. I have never seen her more beautiful. Stunning. Heath in one photo looked really proud of her too. I wish she could show a little more adventurousness in dressing once again for these big events. Just my 2 cents.

  11. Anne Keane says:

Michelle dresses for Michelle. She isn’t a va va voom girl. She’s a great actress and kind of ethereal. That’s how she dresses. I think she looks lovely.

    • BothSidesNow says:

Yup!! It’s just how she rolls and no one is going to change her. I thought that she looked lovely last night.

  12. Sasha says:

    Vanessa looks fantastic!

  13. Coco says:

Vanessa Hudgens was the only good look of this bunch.

  14. Mle428 says:

I have an irrational dislike of Michelle Williams. She’s my nemesis, like Laura Dern is for Kaiser.

    • MissM says:

Same. I don’t know why but I find her utterly unwatchable and can’t fathom why she keeps getting nominated. Her face just annoys me. She truly is the only actor I feel this way about, it’s so strange.

      • Kristin says:

I feel the same about Michelle Williams, lol! There’s nothing about my animosity toward her that’s rooted in anything legitimate or tangible, I just cannot stand her for some reason!
