Malala Yousafzai wore Ralph Lauren: one of the best looks of the Oscars?

Malala Yousafzai was honestly one of my picks for best-dressed of this year’s Oscars. I love that Malala is a serious humanitarian and activist… and she also loves clothes. Ralph Lauren made her this custom look and it’s perfect. RL does a lot of “hooded” dresses anyway, so they just reworked the style to provide Malala with a built-in hijab. The silver looked amazing and the structure of the dress was phenomenal. She’s winning at life – her hot husband Asser Malik looks so proud of her.

Riz Ahmed, Oscar winner and Oscar presenter. I’m surprised he showed so much chest! I love him.

Fan Bingbing in Tony Ward Haute Couture. I like this, and I think it’s fine to go big like this for the Oscars. She was one of the few women who went for a big look and pulled it off. I think… it would have been more interesting if the whole dress was green though?

Everyone looks wonderful but Malala was really in the top 3 for me last night. The fit is perfect and I love how it just screams her. Her but with glam turned up to 100.

      +1

    • ELX says:

Malala’s dress harkens back to a popular hooded silhouette from the 30’s and 40’s—body conscious but not too much—really, really elegant.

      • BQM says:

That’s what I thought too! I’ve seen that look on vintage Hollywood stars. Gorgeous. You can do conservative and modest dressing and not have it be dowdy, boring or ugly. I loved her similar champagne satin dress for the after party though Kaiser didn’t. The satin also gave 30s Hollywood vibes.

    • Carrie says:

Agree, and she has a fantastic figure.

    • Christine says:

She looks so beautiful, this fits her perfectly!

    • Bad Janet says:

      Perfect descriptor.

She can do no wrong in my eyes anyway, but I think I would find this a lovely look anyway. The built in hijab is an interesting twist on a glam gown. It’s perfect.

  2. Savu says:

I LOVED Malala’s gown. It was so beautiful!

  3. CommentingBunny says:

LOVE Malala’s dress! Sparkly is my favourite colour, the fit is impeccable, and she looks gorgeous.

  4. Amy Bee says:

Malala was one of the best dressed of the night.

  5. Becks1 says:

I loved Malala’s look. the dress was gorgeous, love the detail at the wrists, she looked comfortable but glamorous. Fantastic look.

    • Giddy says:

I hated that Jimmy Kimmel bothered her with the guy in the bear costume.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Becks1, the details on the sleeve were perfectly executed. Malala looked elegant, chic and perfection!!! Malala was simply one of the best three out of all of the women last night and she deserves all of the happiness and accolades coming her way. She also looked blissfully happy next to her husband and he looked utterly proud, loving and supportive of her.

  6. Nanea says:

Malala’s dress was one of the few I liked unreservedly, Fan Bing Bing’s too — and Cara Delevingne’s red one was another favorite.

  7. K says:

Wow she looks freaking awesome . Beautiful.

  8. Jen says:

Yes! Malala was definitely one of my best dressed picks of the night. It was in general a good night for fashion. So many looked amazing.

  9. Jane says:

Riz Ahmed is someone whose win got really overshadowed by The Slap last year. All the British coverage last year was about that with a brief mention of Kenneth Branagh’s win, and the other British winners were completely ignored. Under normal circumstances, they’d have received a lot more attention, so I’m glad he got to come back this year.

    • BQM says:

Questlove even more since rock was presenting his category. Glad to see both he and aria last night.

  10. Jais says:

Yeah, I think this was my favorite. She looked beautiful but also chill if that makes sense.

  11. Mina_Esq says:

I love this for her. I thought she and Rihanna had the best dresses.

  12. Gelya says:

Malala looked beautiful. So well spoken and she always has such wisdom in her eyes as if she is ninety. She is elegant.
I liked Fan Bingbing’s dress. It is time for fun and going big/glamorous. I love it when the stars do. A lot of them don’t any more.

  13. BeanieBean says:

Malala looked absolutely gorgeous. I listened to her on Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me a couple of weekends ago. She was so exited about the Oscars & choosing a dress!

  14. Coco says:

Both Malala and Fan Bingbing looked amazing last night.

    • BothSidesNow says:

They did. They knew how to look elegant, chic and took the old style of Hollywood into the 21st century. Along with Ava Duvernay as well!!

  15. Well Wisher says:

Malala’s dress is beautiful, appropriate and hers, in a unique way as Fan BingBing’s.
The variety of styles is a treat, and every one managed to be 😻, including the men.

  16. Chaine says:

I really adore Malala’s look. It shows that you can dress modestly while still looking youthful and glamorous. And i’m not at all trying to be mean, but contrast to Mayim Bialik who promotes dressing modestly as part of her branding, but too often the designers/looks she chooses end up looking frumpy and age her.

Fan Bingbing looks spectacular. I still haven’t seen anything she’s acted in but this makes me more interested in looking up whether anything is there to watch on streaming.

  17. MissMarirose says:

Fan Bingbing is back! I hope she stays here and doesn’t go back to China. It’s terrible what they did to her.

  18. DouchesOfCornwall says:

Malala’s gown is amazing! Fan bingbing’s dress is gorgeous too! The dress is about a new, beautiful, more creative color combination and it pulled off much better than Monica Barbaro in Elie Saab. https://www.celebitchy.com/808254/monica_barbaro_in_elie_saab_at_the_oscars_one_of_the_best_looks/

  19. QuiteContrary says:

Malala wore that dress — and that husband of hers! — so well. She looked gorgeous.

And so did Fan Bingbing. Her dress was also fabulous.

  20. alexc says:

Malala looks gorgeous. And her husband is just wow. She is winning at life and so deserves it.

  21. Lucy2 says:

    I love both of these!

  22. Nicegirl says:

Absolutely one of the best looks indeed.

  23. Spike says:

That garment is exquisite. I loved her thoughtful response to a silly question.

Kimmel read out a fan question to her. “Your work on human rights and education for women and children is an inspiration. As the youngest Nobel prize winner in history, do you think Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine?”

Malala, while appearing a little fazed by Kimmel’s joke, quickly responded, “I only talk about peace.”
