Tessa Thompson is not a vegetarian but ‘I’ve never had a hamburger in my life’

I love several gossip sub-genres and “celebrities talking about their weird diets and eating habits” is definitely one of the top sub-genres, right up there with “celebrities talking about changing their citizenship” and “people reacting to Princess Kate’s jazz hands and gawping.” But I digress, we were talking about food. Does Tessa Thompson give off the vibe of a picky eater, or someone highly selective about random food? Not to me – I would have believed it if you told me she was vegan OR an omnivore. But I never would have expected this:

Hamburgers might be a staple for some, but Tessa Thompson has never tried one. The Creed III star made the confession while at Vanity Fair’s annual Oscar party on Sunday night.

“I’ve never had a hamburger in my life,” she said. A reporter for the outlet asked if she is vegetarian and Thompson said, “No.”

“I eat other things, I’ve just never had a hamburger,” said the Passing actress before she joked, “It’s the only thing extraordinary that I can still claim.”

That wasn’t her only confession. She added that she just “recently” tried an egg for the first time, however, she wasn’t impressed.

“I had never had one of those. I don’t think they’re great,” she said. When the reporter mentioned there are lots of ways to enjoy an egg, Thompson said, “That’s the problem with them. It’s like, pick a lane.”

Still, there’s one traditional staple that Thompson can’t get enough of. “I love potatoes.”

[From People]

I feel seen. I have weird food quirks too! I rarely eat hamburgers and on the rare occasion that I do, it’s usually without a bun and with just ketchup. I also don’t eat eggs – it’s not that I distrust eggs, I’m just not impressed by eggs. And I also love potatoes. I can’t believe there’s someone in Hollywood with similar food quirks. I wish someone had asked her about cheese. I cannot stand most cheeses, they make me sick and barfy. I bet Tessa likes bacon though.

Unpopular opinion, I guess: stop putting everything on hamburgers, hamburgers should not be 10 inches high. Your side dishes do not need to go “on” the hamburger. The average person doesn’t want to unhinge their jaw just to take a bite of a hamburger.

I hate raw carrots. I hate eggplant. And mushy yellow squash. And anything with “strings.” 🙄

This reminds me of a guy I know who, whenever we are talking about a new tv show or documentary says “oh I wouldn’t know – I don’t watch TV”.
Maybe it’s because of his pretension, but comments like this make me roll my eyes – you are sooooo edgy & special (again, this could be my bias over reacting!)

How could you never have a hamburger? Seems weird but whatever.

I don’t do beets, olives or water chestnuts. That’s about it!

Eat or don’t eat whatever you like, nobody cares. However, unless you have a legitimate allergy please don’t make a federal case out of it and annoy everyone around you.

Signed someone who runs her office social committee.

    Thank you.

There are things that because your family didn’t eat them growing up, you never ate them. Do you order them in a restaurant, not knowing if you’ll like them? Never having eaten something just becomes a self sustaining thing.

What’s odd for me is that I’m a picky eater and hamburgers are often my “safe” food at a restaurant. My food horizons really expanded in my 30s when I worked at a tech company with a fancy cafeteria. There was a buffet where you paid by weight, so I could get a tiny bit of lots of things to try. I do have options beyond hamburgers now.

I can eat a hamburger, but it’s usually not my first choice and I don’t want to eat one that has everything but the kitchen sink on it. I LOATHE and despise bananas. I hate the smell, the way they look , can’t have one near me. I mostly don’t like fruit. I like mango or papaya in salads only. I love vegetables with the exception of beets, I mean whose idea was that?? I thought Brussel Sprouts were gross until I figured out how to make them. Roasted and with a splash of balsamic glaze and parm before you serve.

I’m an omnivore but I’ve never had a pork chop. Honestly.

Peas are the devil’s own vegetable, but I quite like sugar snaps and green beans, so go figure.
I find as I get older I’m a lot more open to veggies (and foods) I’d previously found disgusting, but the humble pea remains my nemesis. Bring on the Brussels sprouts and beets!

That red bra flower top/black gown is ugly.
The gold gown is too structured and makes her look like she is wearing a shiny bell.
No one cares what anyone else eats.
Unless you need to be careful bc of a food allergy, pipe down please.

Btw, grocery prices 2023 my area a pound of ground chuck is $6.75 I can’t afford to buy it to make a cheeseburger, so zero sympathy to TT and her attention seeking BS.

I didn’t eat burgers for most of my childhood. There was a bad E. coli outbreak that was all over the news when I was like 7 years old, and for years after that I was too scared to eat anything that had ground beef in it.

Grew up with my moms bland no seasoning food, but thankfully my Syrian grandpa made the best food when I was there so did my dad who’s Italian & Syrian. My mom is a little white lady who doesn’t like seasoning. I only eat meat I know where it came from, grew up with venison as my dad hunted, so I don’t like beef as much but if it’s local and from a local butcher. I live at the coast so all my seafood is fresh. I don’t like fried food it doesn’t agree with me, love good cheese, Italian, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern food, all Latin/Mexica/Cuban etc. I’m not a big southern food fan save Mac n cheese. I find American sweets very sweet sometimes, and I don’t like mint in anything other than my chocolate. My mom has a hard time eating my food and vice versa it’s interesting how we develop our own tastes, if my dad was still around may he rip, he loved my spicy food.
