‘It was rough’ for Reese Witherspoon to reach ‘the divorce decision’

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth announced their separation on a Friday in March, and it turned out to be a busy weekend of gossip, so… the Friday news dump was pretty effective. People were surprised, and that surprise faded pretty quickly. While the tabloids tried to make a meal out of the situation – with Toth’s “midlife crisis” featuring in several stories – Reese and Jim didn’t trade accusations in the press and they seemed pretty organized behind the scenes. Basically, they’re both telegraphing (right now) that there’s no big drama and none of this will be spilling out into the public sphere. That being said, of course Reese wants to come out of this with some sympathy. She’s playing it the right way, in my opinion:

Reese Witherspoon is looking ahead following her split from Jim Toth. A source tells PEOPLE that while the decision to divorce from Toth, 52, was “not an easy one” for Witherspoon, 47, the actress and producer “is just focused on her kids and work” more than three weeks after the pair announced they made the “difficult decision to divorce” in March.

“The divorce decision was not an easy one for her. It was rough to reach the decision and to announce it,” the source says. “Reese is doing much better now though. She has no regrets and is just focused on her kids and work.”

Witherspoon and Toth share 10-year-old son Tennessee James, while the Legally Blonde star and ex-husband Ryan Phillippe also share daughter Ava Elizabeth, 23, and son Deacon Reese, 19.

“She has a big group of loyal friends that she leans on,” the source continues, adding: “There is no drama with Jim. They co-parent and this is the focus.”

[From People]

She does have loyal friends, but more than that, she has hundreds of millions of dollars and she’s massively successful, which means she can hire tons of people to insulate her from everything. And that’s fine – if I had the money and I was going through a divorce, I’d hire the best people to insulate me as well, like Melinda Gates did when she decided to leave her husband. Now, do I also believe this whole thing has been “rough” on Reese? I do. This was her second marriage, this was the marriage which was supposed to be super-stable. I do feel bad for her because it does feel like Toth really changed.

I think it is generally a difficult decision to divorce for many folks.

Both busy, often away from home due to work, kids getting older, it’s very hard to stay close, and having more money means more options to leave.
Mid life crisis and growing apart, empty nest, whatever the reason, or combo of reasons.

Well if you get married assuming you or your partner won’t change with time, that’s probably your first problem?

There’s nothing wrong with change. And if you don’t evolve and change with time, that would concern me more. Let’s maybe stop with the narrative that relationships ending is bad. It just is. Yes, it can be painful, but it’s often necessary for individuals to honour themselves first and that’s ok!

As long as it’s done with love and respect.

The first pr push i said ok. The subsequent ones was where i felt bad for toth. She made sure to make him the bad guy in a way that doesnt make her look bad.
I worked at an agency. This seemed like a typical manager relationship. -He was basically given the role of her handler. He was there to help her with her productions. Dont know who used who but he did sacrifice his client list by shoehorning her into every project. Now, that he had to step back from her career a little bit she files for divorce. Plus she doesnt need him anymore. She cant play her old characters anymore so there is less to manage. Her new path is clear. So why split money with him.

Alyssa milano also has this type of client/manager relationship. Caa is known for it.

Wait. CAA is known for marrying talent to managers? Her career is doing well but I mean…. They have a kid together!
