Michaela Coel wore an incredible Schiaparelli at the 2023 Met Gala

Michaela Coel was one of only a handful of people who got to wear custom Schiaparelli at last night’s Met Gala (Kim Kardashian was another). Coel’s dress was made with 130,000 crystals and 26,000 mixed stones. It is a profound work of art and she absolutely killed it. Before now, I also never realized how small she is – her build is quite slight and this dress really emphasizes it. Anyway, hands down, this was one of the looks of the night and she had the best overall styling.

*insert sad clown horn* Meanwhile, here are some of the women who wore Chloe. Olivia Wilde’s people made a big deal about how she wore a special design based on Karl Lagerfeld’s famous “violin dress” for Chloe. The problem was that Margaret Zhang got the same dress in a different color! Olivia and the other Chloe people made a point of not posing with Zhang too. The rest of the Chloe gang included Vanessa Kirby (in vintage Chloe), Maude Apatow and Gabriela Hearst.

Michaela looked amazing but I did not like her shoes. Olivia looked great, I actually liked the version of the gown she wore instead of the black version. Maude has a lovely figure but already looks like a suburban housewife. I’m just unmoved.

I don’t like her dress at all. It reminds me of all the gaudy/kitschy moon and sun decor from the 90s

    • Josephine says:

I particularly don’t get the happy/hairy vagina look. why would that piece be placed there of all places??!! Michaela is a stunner but even she doesn’t look too happy with the dress.

    • FHMom says:

I liked it from the side but it looks awful from the front. Really tacky. The only dress I like here is worn by the blue haired person whose name I don’t know. She looks fabulous. Olivia made me laugh. She looks atrocious.

      • J says:

Completely agree. First pic from the side looks the best she’s ever looked. Then I saw the front – ugh, they did her dirty!

And Margaret Zhang looks so much better in the dress than Olivia Wilde, except she shouldn’t have worn such clunky shoes.

  3. Barbara says:

As soon as I saw those cutout sides, I knew it was Olivia. She loooooves to have her stomach out.

  4. SAS says:

Looool at the dress double up. Margaret absolutely killed it, styled to perfection.

No to Olivia’s sad fabric offcut Wonder Woman cuffs and tacky earrings, she knows she lost the “who wore it”.

    • mf says:

Agree. Generally speaking, I think Olivia is one of those people who doesn’t really get fashion and doesn’t have good taste, but she’s beautiful so nobody notices most of the time.

    • tealily says:

Yup, I don’t know Margaret, but she looks really cool here while Olivia just looks boring.

  5. ChillinginDC says:

I cracked up at people calling Wilde and the other women’s dresses maxi pads.

Michaela killed it. One of the best women dressed last night.

  6. Jais says:

I loved Michaela’s look but I’m a sucker for a star sun and moon motif.

  7. Southern Fried says:

Michaela’s dress is that a fringe smile at the crotch? Lmao

    • BillyPilgrim says:

Hate Michaela’s dress. Looks like glue gun gone crazy.
Maude Apatow is my hands down favorite!

    • NotSoSocialB says:

I feel like the high collar makes it too top heavy and makes her look short-legged. Also the tata stars, belly button star, mons patch and fringe are weird to me. It’s too chaotic. If it had an open neck and different/ more symmetrical bedazzling, I’d like it more- but her hair and makeup are beautiful.

  8. Cel2495 says:

The fit on Olivia was not good. Also the white color was a blah. Styling was also boring. I like how Margaret styles her dress and the hair. Plus the fit was good. Def she wore it better.

  9. Emmi says:

Um, from the neck up she looks spectacular but that’s her face. It’s really incredible bone structure and lovely skin. But … the dress is not good imo. First of all, if you must, it needs higher heels and I NEVER say that. And then why does the front look like a tragic surprised smiley face? I don’t get it. Up close it’s gorgeous but someone didn’t think this through.

  10. Coco says:

Michaela look great and I love what she wore the night before at the dinner.

  11. Cecil says:

There are better photos of Margaret Zhang’s dress out there where you can see gold detailing around the hem of the dress, which looks longer than Olivia’s and pools a bit in a very lovely way. There’s also gold detailing on the end of the cape, and her version of the dress actually seems to be fitted around the bodice, where Olivia’s is more of a capelet. All in all, I think Margaret got the better, more stylish update, but maybe I’m biased because I absolutely DETEST those horrific vambraces Olivia is wearing. It looks like they had leftover fabric in a Project Runway challenge and decided to add another detail. So terrible.

I like Zhang’s version of the dress more I think. She looks so cool and nice touch with the sunglasses.

    • EasternViolet says:

Agreed. The sleek blue hair made the look complete. I felt the white version looked frumpier.

  13. Shawna says:

    Margaret Zhang wore it better!

  14. sunny says:

Michaela’s face is just so beautiful. I didn’t love her look but it was memorable.

  15. Grant says:

Love Michaela’s dress although I saw someone on Twitter say she looked like she fell overboard during a squall and got covered in barnacles and crabs, lol.

Something nice: I actually like Olivia’s Wonder Woman bracers.

  16. sparrow says:

Olivia’s dress nearly brought me out in a rash. That is pretty much the outfit I had to make for one of the kids’ fancy dress parties at school. Roman togas was the theme. It took me days to sew and stick the bloody thing together, and I still have flash backs.

  17. Fender says:

The “Khloe” Karens look awful, terrible make up and clothes. Zhang is better off not posing next to them, they look like a coven.

  18. jferber says:

Margaret Zhang did wear it better. I loved her blue hair and sunglasses. Who is she? What has she been in? I’d love to see her in a film. She has style and attitude for days.
