Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria celebrated her 46th birthday with her family

Sorry I’m so late getting to these photos, but I only just saw them today. On July 14, Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria celebrated her 46th birthday with a concert and her family came out. Princess Madeleine and her husband Christopher flew in from their Florida home for the occasion, and Prince Carl-Philip was there with his wife Sofia. CP Victoria also posed for photos with her husband Daniel and their two kids.

I haven’t seen Princess Estelle in a while, and that kid is growing like a weed! She’s 11 years old and she seems like a pretty grounded heiress-to-the-heiress. They don’t hide her away, but Sweden doesn’t have the same kind of uncomfortable relationship with their royal family, so it’s not a big deal or major news when Estelle is seen. Prince Oscar is his dad’s mini-me – Oscar is only 7 and he has his dad’s whole face.

In February 2022, there were rumors in the Swedish tabloid media about the state of Victoria and Daniel’s marriage, rumors that something happened between them and that Daniel had moved out or something. They denied the rumors in real time and stepped out for some photo-ops, just the two of them. I wasn’t really sure about any of it – the photo-ops didn’t seem all that convincing, but I also didn’t believe that they were headed for divorce. My guess is that they did have some marriage drama early last year but they weathered the storm. They look quite happy in these photos.

Seeing how other royal families interact like actual families really highlights how horrible the BRF is.

It really does. I don’t know much about this family, but the seem fairly normal? Quiet? No jockeying for position or having fashion wars or temper tantrums.

      • Josie says:

The king has slipped more than once and publicly shared his disappointment that Victoria is his heir, not her brother. Parliament passed a law after both kids were already born and the king wanted it not to apply to that generation.

Most of the Royal families of Europe are just as riven with the drama that comes from being a family and a firm at the same time, plus the drama that happens when people have multiple houses and aristocratic lifestyles. Every one of the Scandinavian crown Prince/princess couples has dealt with credible reports about infidelity; sibling rivalries around position and responsibilities are also pretty common.

Americans think the European royal houses are operating without drama because we don’t speak the languages of their countries’ tabloids. Believe me, there’s less difference than it seems.

They do seem fairly “normal,” for a royal family. Obviously we’ve heard of some drama over the years, especially related to titles, but their interactions seem fairly…..normal, again. They dress like they’re in the 21st century, if they hate each other behind the scenes they hide it pretty well, etc.

    • Josephine says:

They all seem so much healthier and carefree. No manic grins, no grumpy grimaces, no cig-stained chesire smiles.

Love Princess Estelle, she was such a charming aborable kid. Can’t believe how big she is. Little brother is also a cutie. Hope their mom won’t be stuck in an unhappy marriage.

    Nice photos.
I recall when she and Hubby were engaged.
    He was a “commoner”.

The press tried to make a story of it, stir it up in the tabs.
They simply ignored it all, married and have a lovely family.

I like this family, they seem to be dignified, polite and low key.
    Good job.

She and her family did a little documentary on their crown jewels not too long ago, which was very interesting. And she’s always struck me as a pretty decent person, so it’s nice to see she’s doing ok.

  5. Emma says:

The main thing that strikes me about these photos is that the two kids seem fine being in front of the cameras. They don’t look tense or unhappy, in stark contrast to the Wales’ children. They honestly looked miserable at that air show.

I am sure the Swedes have their own dramas, but for the most part, as an outsider they – and most of the European royal families – seem to just get on with the job in hand.

    • Becks1 says:

We’ve said on here for a while now that the BRF needs to look at other royal families in Europe to see how they handle raising their kids with the press etc. Now I think the British press is probably very different (and more toxic) than the press in some of these countries, but for the most part we see other royal families have the kids in the public eye a few times a year and they live pretty private lives otherwise. They aren’t trotted out for PR. and these other royal children all seem much more comfortable in front of the cameras/press.

Is the answer more public appearances, fewer? Is the answer for W&K to change their relationship with the press so its less transactional? IDK.

Lovely photos of the Swedish royals. Youthful bunch unlike the British Royals who look way ancient when photographed together (Trooping the Color and Coronation photos).

    • Anastasia says:

They do! King Gustoff is a couple of years older than charles, but they look relatively like piers, but Victoria and Daniel are both five or so years older than William and Kate, but look 5 to 10 years younger than both of them.

I don’t know if it’s stress or happiness or not stabbing each other in the back constantly, but whatever they’re doing it’s working.

  7. Honey says:

I’ve always loved them as a couple and as a family. Estelle is really getting tall. It’s getting harder and harder to recognize the inquisitive little toddler who was fun to watch during photo opps. She’s nearly a pre-teen now. Oh, wow. 🙂

Now, a little bit of negativity (sorry 😔😏). I need Prince Daniel to let go of that slicked back hairstyle. He didn’t used to wear his hair like that in the dating years. Perhaps he’s had hair loss/thinning due to medical issues. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Now for that blue suit. Yeah, I’m calling that out too. I’m seen him in black suits but he can get a little pizzaz or something about himself. I used to feel like that with Prince Harry up until I read Spare (drops head in shame). But, but, but . . . as with PH, re: PD, I’m like “can someone, anybody, buy that man a new suit?!?” 😂🤪

    • M says:

I believe that hairstyle started after he had his kidney transplant. I’m sure those meds mess with all of that.

      • Honey says:

Yes. I should have been more specific about the issue with his kidneys and the impact from that specific issues and likely meds. But couldn’t he allow a piece or two to hang down? I asking for a friend. 😜😃

  8. Mireille says:

So the next 2 heirs to the Swedish throne will be women? I know that the line of succession had to be changed by law to make that happen and I know the current King was rather grumpy about that — even if it’s his own daughter. And to be completely superficial here, Madeleine is gorgeous, but married to a boring, so-so fellow American businessman. They must be happy together but I always thought she could do better. The kids are cuties, of course.

When Victoria becomes Queen, what title does Daniel get? He still remains prince, correct? Prince Regent? I am wondering because this was such a big issue in Denmark as the current Queen’s husband was upset because he never got the “King” title when she ascended the throne.

    • Mario Ross says:

I don’t know Swedish law, specifically, but for most (if not all) of the remaining royal families in Europe, IIRC, a prince consort will never be King, if their wife is the monarch, even when the inverse is allowed (as with Queen Camilla, or Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother). The basic logic is that a King is a higher position than Queen, so if the Queen is the monarch, her husband will need to remain a prince (or duke, or whatever).

  9. Snoodle says:

Okay, let’s be real here. Victoria and Daniel have basically the same face, so how can we know who the kids actually take after? They take after Mom, they take after Dad, they take after EITHER maternal grandparent, who can tell because it’s the SAME FACE!
