Seth MacFarlane donated $1 million to the Entertainment Community Fund

I know Seth MacFarlane gets a lot of well-deserved criticism for being sleazy and making gross cartoons, but I’ll say two things in his defense: one, I still love American Dad (Family Guy can choke) and two, Seth is actually on the right side of many issues, and he has been on the right side for many years. Seth is a member of several Hollywood unions and he’s on strike with everyone else. Now the union is publicizing the fact that Seth made a huge donation to the Entertainment Community Fund:

Seth MacFarlane has donated $1 million to The Entertainment Community Fund to help provide financial assistance for industry workers during the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

The organization, formerly known as The Actors Fund, also exclusively tells me that recent donors include The Katie McGrath & JJ Abrams Family Foundation, Stacey Abrams, Annette Bening, Tom Bergeron, Greg Berlanti, Rachel Bloom, Rosanne Cash in memory of Johnny Cash, Suzanne Collins and Cap Pryor, Vince Gilligan, Lynn Nottage, Michelle Pfeiffer and David E. Kelley, Shonda Rhimes, and Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw.

The fund has raised more than $6.3 million since May 1 from more than 7,500 donors in support of film and television workers.

“The Entertainment Community Fund is overcome with gratitude to the prominent leaders in our community who have donated in support of film and television workers in need,” Entertainment Community Fund chair Annette Bening said in a statement Tuesday morning. “Each day, the calls for help increase; these gifts will immediately assist so many in our industry who are still struggling to recover after the pandemic. We also hope that these impactful gifts will inspire others, if they can, to donate to support our crucial work.”

Good for him. I suspect the fund is parceling out the announcements about the biggest donations so they can have a steady stream of good news to report every week. I’m glad they’re naming all of the people who have already donated too, and it sort of leaves room for people to speculate “why hasn’t Meryl donated? Why hasn’t Clooney? Where are Ben and Jen?” As for Seth… good for him. I have no idea what kind of money he’s made from all of his shows, but I suspect he can well afford it.

Good for Seth and good for everyone else donating.

I am over Family Guy, but American Dad is still pretty funny, and so very very random.

Good for him and I’m happy they have these big name supporters to announce. It puts pressure on the other side. I bet there are some donating anonymously as well. But yes, more big names would be great!

I imagine I’ll get pushback for my comment. In the whole scheme of things $1mil from him is nothing. His network is reportedly $300mil.
All big name actors need to be dropping millions for all these workers on strike. These workers are the nuts and bolts of Hollywood. Let them be able to strike and not have to agonizie over how they will make ends meet . I imagine some actors are making large donations and remaining anonymous.

I must have the name Seth Mc Farlane confused with someone else because I’ve never seen that guy before but good for him for doing such a generous thing.

Nice, Seth. Good for him. I hope others will follow suit.

I’ve always loved him and even more so now seeing him put his money to use to help the striking writers. The Orville is so good! Best Star Trek series of them all. 😉

  6. Nanea says:

Good to see Seth and a few other big names (too few for my liking) supporting this fund.

And it’s important to remember that both WGA and SAG/AFTRA unions are on strike for better working conditions for *all* of their members, even those who have made it.

Good for him, this was a cool thing to do.

I am definitely expecting we’ll hear about dozens more big names donating to this fund. There is no good excuse for super wealthy folks not to donate

Good for him! Love to see it.

I was never a fan of his older tv shows (still plan to watch Orville), but his singing voice is just incredible; his classic Vegas stage show remains one of the best live concerts I’ve been to.

I highly doubt anyone will be seeing shit from Jennifer Lopez. I can still remember the time when she was with Ben (the first time/engagement) and Ben was playing poker or craps in Vegas. He won HUGE, like $400,000 and tried to tip the card girl $10,000. Jennifer scolded him, took BACK the cash and left a $5 bill. This wasn’t a tabloid bs story, alot of people saw it. Of course she had no problem with him dropping $2 million on that stupid pink diamond engagement ring. Oh no, as long as he spent his money on HER, it was fine. I respect her work ethic, but her horrible attitude and greed are pretty well known throughout the industry.
