Dan Wootton has (finally) been suspended from his Daily Mail columnist job

Byline Times has now run seven different pieces in their seemingly unending series about Dan Wootton, the current GB News personality and former tabloid writer and editor. Most of Byline’s reporting is from the period of time when Wootton was a powerful gossip columnist and editor for The Sun. In 2020, he was finally pushed out of The Sun, which is when he moved over to GB News and the Daily Mail. Byline has extensive evidence and sourcing to back up their claims that Wootton is a serial blackmailer, a serial sexual harasser, a credibly accused sexual predator and one of the biggest bullies in British media. Even the details about his catfishing operation are ludicrously sleazy. With each passing day, Byline gathers more evidence and with each passing day, there’s been little to no movement from Wootton’s employers. Until now – Wootton has been suspended from the Mail:

Dan Wootton has been suspended by MailOnline after allegations emerged that he used a pseudonym to secretly offer his colleagues tens of thousands of pounds in return for sexual material. The GB News presenter has had a lucrative job writing a twice-weekly column for MailOnline since 2021 but it has not appeared since the allegations were made public by his ex-boyfriend last month.

Wootton is also under investigation by his former employers at Rupert Murdoch’s News UK, where he worked for more than a decade as a celebrity journalist. The company has hired an external law firm to investigate claims Wootton targeted current and former Sun employees with offers of money in return for explicit images.

A spokesperson for DMG media, the parent company of MailOnline, confirmed Wootton would not be working for them for the foreseeable future. They said: “We are continuing to consider a series of allegations which Dan Wootton – who has written columns for MailOnline since 2021 as one of several outside freelance contributors – has strenuously denied. The allegations are obviously serious but also complex and historic and there is an independent investigation under way at the media group which employed him during the relevant period. In the meantime, his freelance column with MailOnline has been paused.”

The spokesperson did not immediately clarify whether Wootton would continue to be paid by MailOnline. The journalist is running a crowdfunder to pay for his legal fees.

Wootton continues to present a nightly primetime show on the rightwing GB News channel, rallying supporters against a supposed leftwing plot to have him cancelled. In a statement two weeks ago he accepted having made mistakes in his past but denied criminal wrongdoing.

Wootton’s lawyer has since told the Guardian Wootton denies many of the allegations that have been levelled against him by his ex-boyfriend and reporting in Byline Times.

The lawyer said: “For the avoidance of further doubt, our client did not at any time contact current or former colleagues at the Sun with offers of money in return for sexually explicit images, he did not engage in inappropriate behaviour in the workplace, and he did not misuse News UK funds.”

[From The Guardian]

When the Sun/News Group Newspapers announced that they were investigating Wootton’s time within Murdoch’s papers, they made a point of saying that they hired someone (likely a law firm) to conduct the investigation as a neutral third-party. This is the same thing the Murdochs had to do at Fox News when the Roger Ailes mess exploded, and it’s actually an incredibly effective method of getting victims to come forward to speak to someone seen as a neutral arbiter. It does not sound like the Mail is doing the same. It sounds like the Mail is fake-suspending Wootton until the heat dies down and then they’ll bring him back in a few months, just in time to foam at the mouth about How Woke Barbie Is All Woke Meghan’s Fault (you know he’s itching to write that column).

Maybe this is what Harry and Meghan were celebrating last night.

  2. Libra says:

One way or another, Karma will come for him. His time is up. I am impatiently waiting.

    • Geegee says:

I still wana know what he has on peg.

      • Danbury says:

        ME TOO

      • BothSidesNow says:

Wootton certainly has some dirt on Peg and that is why he has showing himself as unbothered and smug.

Wootton has left people in his wake that have been driven to suicide. Caroline Flack is simply just ONE of his many victims. I wish that someone would go after Murdoch and his vile actions that has ruined so many lives.

      • Kake says:

ME THREE!! But something tells me that tea is his “get out of jail” card.

      • Me too, no doubt whatever info he has is a big reason why the DM is keeping him in limbo: he’s becoming too radioactive for them to keep, but is also too dangerous for them to let go. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, as well as telling..

      • Gabby says:

Probably has dirt on one or more of the Murdochs, too. I suspect a number of prestigious and powerful blackmail victims.

    • Lizzie says:

I want the police to come for him.

      • BothSidesNow says:

Oh @ Lizzie, I am certain that the Met is performing their due diligence investigating this maggot to the best of their ability!!

I am glad that News UK has hired an independent lawyer to investigate Rotten Wootton and his nefarious, illegal and sexual harassment claims. I agree with Kaiser that more victims will be willing to come forward. Rotten Wootton isn’t going to be able to slime his way out of these investigations. Wooten has cooked his own goose!!

      • Jais says:

        Me too.

  3. Suspended? That is all? He needs to be locked up but he seems to be protected but by whom? Suspended until the coast is clear then he will be back.

  4. Andy Dufresne says:

Just looking at this POS ‘s pictures here give me the creeps! His eyes alone give off psychopathic vibes! 😨

  5. Eurydice says:

Well, the Mail makes a strenuous point that Wootton is just one of many OUTSIDE, FREELANCE contributors and that his column is FREELANCE. In other words, he’s not our employee and we’re not responsible – let the guys who actually employed him do the investigating. So, yeah, Wootton’s freelance columns will come crawling back and the excuse will be “Nothing has been proven yet.”

  6. How does the GB News pastiche of moral outrage function when the person (ostensibly) on the moral high ground has been credibly accused of secretly taping his colleagues having sex ?

    • MsIam says:

Unless someone sues, Murdoch will keep him around as an attack dog. They knew for months that Tucker Carlson and others were lying but after that lawsuit he got the broom. Murdoch has no morals or ethical guidelines, other than “Thou shalt not cost me any money!”.

  7. Amy Bee says:

Due diligence would have made the DM conduct an investigation at their company to see if he was doing any wrongdoing there. His dirty tricks got him to where he is now, I doubt that he stopped when moved over to the DM. Same applies for GB News.

  8. Chantal says:

Hmmmm…is even worse news re: Dan Rotten about to drop? Something made the DM finally get off their asses and do something about this ever burgeoning fiasco. So what was it?

Also, GB News should be embarrassed by their continued affiliation with and employment of this criminal scum bag. I guess the “holy sh*t everyone abandon ship” memo about Dan hasn’t reached them yet.

  9. Harper says:

The latest Byline article positively links Wooten to the blackmailing accounts; the evidence of the links was just handed over to the police. This has been the slowest moving takedown but Byline is keeping the pressure on. Dan has to be sweating behind the scenes; I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes another holiday back home to New Zealand soon.

    • ML says:

Exactly, Harper. I think it’s the password and his ex, Alex Truby, that has forced the DF to act.

    • SenseOfTheAbsurd says:

Eeeuuuww. New Zealand doesn’t want him, not after all this and his attempts to undermine the covid response.

I live in his hometown, and absolutely promise you that if I see him at the Queensgate Mall I will accidentally trip him up.

  10. Jan says:

Can you believe Dan called the Sussex Squad vile, LOL.
Dan has been blackmailing people for more than 10 years, his co-workers, politicians, business men/ women, athletes, actors, Royals, socialites, you name it.
    They’re are scared as hell.

    • Selene says:

DING DING DING! He knows too much; he reeks of self-preservation. He’s taking everyone down with him, wait for it.

  11. Mary Pester says:

So his solicitor said “he denies MANY of the accusations”, so NOT ALL OF THEM. That should in itself be a red flag to any “Right thinking” employer, but there again we are talking about the mail and GB news! Wonder if peg has had a few sleepless nights and made a few strategic phone calls, oh and a very large donation!

  12. Selene says:

I think their findings concur with the Byline News and they’re trying to ease into disposing of him. The DM doesn’t pull back on support of their superstars unless there’s something that can completely damage Murdoch. He did the exact same thing to Tucker Carlson. The difference is that Dan Wootton has loads of info on other people, so they need to wrap a bow on it as to not incense him.

    • Golly Gee says:

Also, scorpions being scorpions, I will bet he has kompromat on past and present bosses because that is the best insurance against being held accountable.

  13. Sunny O says:

I don’t trust News UK or the DM will conduct thorough unbiased investigations even though they are using outside investigation firms.

    • BothSidesNow says:

Neither do I @ Sunny O. And I doubt very much that Murdoch will allow Wootton to sit on the sidelines for very long. Wootton gives Murdoch the type of news that he thrives for and fits into his MO. Murdoch isn’t going to want to have to find another pathetic, corrupt and selfish person as it will take too long and cost too much money. Murdoch would rather part with one of his children than his money.

    • Eurydice says:

It looks from this piece that the DM won’t conduct an investigation at all. They’re saying he’s not an employee, just a freelancer from whom they buy articles. They’re going to let the Sun do the work.

  14. Live by the sword. Die by the sword.
    Karma, Dan.

  15. MSTJ says:

It’s about time this guy started to face some serious consequences for his actions. The state of media in Britain is appalling. The bullying, the blackmail, the catfishing Dan Wootton committed while condemning and criticizing others actions with broad authority on television and print media, demonstrates the power reporters and commentators have over people’s wellbeing in Britain. They control the narrative unchallenged at an industrial scale. There needs to be better regulation and ethics in journalism in Britain there. Murdoch, Rothermere, Ledbedev, Barclay have the country under their thumbs with their control of the government, royal mafia institution and daily narrative in the media.

I hope the Dan Wootton Exposé pushes more people towards publications with better reporting like Byline Times instead of the tabloids.

  16. QuiteContrary says:

I want to film myself laying flowers on the grave of Wootton’s career, like his cringey staged stunt at Buckingham Palace after the queen died.

  17. AC says:

“Substantial evidence that Wooten is a serial blackmailer, serial sexual harasser, and a credible sexual predator”. Even Murdoch’s FOX News here would have Fired him a long time ago 🙄. Over there has some serious issues.

  18. blunt talker says:

if he was doing all this vile and disgusting things to people in order to blackmail them-I’ll say his days on this planet maybe numbered-when you corner people and threaten them -lookout Dan-they see you having a tough time now and may take advantage and get rid of their agonies.

  19. Rea says:

The media system is too flawed just because he was their “star” does not excuse him from doing all that he did. Anyone who condone this guy and gave him pass deserves to be let go too.

  20. Robin Samuels says:

Dan Wootton last wrote a MailOnline column over two weeks ago. They confirmed the suspension is due to a pending investigation. When MailOnline steps back, the toxicity of the allegations must be fatal. It’s also why there are multiple Harry and Meghan silly stories. The British media game of distraction is no longer working. Victims continue to come forward to tell their stories. Bylines Investigations are doing an excellent job. He’s a typical Sussex bully. It’s all fun and games until the tables turn. He proudly admitted that the calls were coming from Kensington Palace. It’s going to be interesting to see Wales distance themselves from this. Dan Wootton doesn’t strike me as the type who goes down alone.
