King Charles’s state visit to France is back on & he’s still going to Versailles

Back in March, King Charles really wanted France to be the first country he visited as monarch. It was supposed to be a grand state visit of France and Germany and some soft-diplomacy between Brexit Britain and the European Union’s two biggest countries. Hilariously, Charles’s planned visit coincided with widespread riots in France and a huge labor strike. Most of the drama was about President Macron, but the protesters had absolutely turned their ire on Charles too, especially regarding the planned dinner reception at Versailles. Those Frenchies were talking about guillotines and what they did to their monarchy. So, Macron postponed Charles and Camilla’s visit and the British papers furiously blamed everything on Macron, despite the fact that French people were directly targeting Charles and planning to protest him specifically. Well, funny story – the state visit has been rescheduled, but Charles won’t even be the main event that week.

The state visit to France by King Charles III that was postponed because of ‘blood and fire’ violent protests is reportedly set to go ahead next month – at the same time as the Pope. French ministerial sources on Monday reported that the King and Queen Camilla will arrive in Paris around September 23rd to 24th. This is also the weekend when Pope Francis is expected in the southern city of Marseille, to be greeted by millions of French Roman Catholics. The Rugby World Cup will also be taking place in major French cities at the time, with all major British sides involved, including England.

Charles and Camilla will first be greeted by President Emmanuel Macron, and his wife, Brigitte Macron, in the French capital, before travelling to the south west city of Bordeaux, sources said.

‘After an official reception at the Élysée Palace, then a dinner at the Palace of Versailles, the royal couple will visit Bordeaux,’ the government source told multiple outlets. He said ‘the British security services’ had cleared both cities after ‘scouting during the month of July.’

The fact that the Versailles dinner is still on the schedule is pretty bad. I wonder if they’ve changed up the planning whatsoever? Originally, it was supposed to be a full state dinner and Macron was really going to roll out the red carpet for Charles. Now it sounds like the state visit has been shortened, but they’re still doing the state dinner and Charles is desperate to be feted at Versailles. It’s such a bad look, imo. It’s funny that Pope Franny will also be around, and that France is also hosting a major sporting event at the exact same time.

  1. I hope when he goes to Versailles that the mirrors in that great hall reflect back at him a reflection of him in horns and a forked tail standing next to an old nag horse.

  2. Amy Bee says:

Charles really wanted that Versailles dinner, didn’t he?

    • SarahCS says:

      I’M THE KING (stamps feet).

We all know it happens, that’s Camilla’s ‘work’.

    • Truthiness says:

I wonder if Versailles is seen as a better locale for dinner so that Charles and Camilla aren’t feasting and being feted close to where Diana died.

    • Becks1 says:

He should put a sign on his limo, VERSAILLES OR BUST!

  3. BlueNailsBetty says:

You just know he’s hoping the protestors focus on the Pope so he can swan about being kingly.

  4. Cessily says:

Really want to say something snarky and very petty (but true) about it being ironic that the Head of two large Christian churches and are known for protecting sex offenders will be dining together, but I won’t.

  5. TheWigletOfWails says:

Someone thinks he’s the sun king…hopefully his actions also mark the beginning of the end of the monarchy.

  6. Saucy&Sassy says:

I wonder if it’s planned specifically so that KFC can tell himself the reason he didn’t get crowds of adoring fans is because they were either seeing the Pope or World Rugby Cup. Why does he need a state dinner at Versailles? Is he expecting this to be a big international news event? I suspect the US media will mention it and move on. Well, who know what Rupert Murdoch will do.

  7. Beverley says:

It would truly be entertaining if the French threatened Charles with the guillotine again!

  8. Lady Esther says:

Ah, pity the hardworking British officials who spent their July (checks notes) “scouting locations for the King in Bordeaux.” Fantastic job, that!

  9. Sugarhere says:

Both of them should have choked on a bone eating roasted quail in Versailles. Hate them both with a passion.

  10. bubblegum Dreams says:

Maybe as an American I don’t understand this visit. Why is he doing a state visit. He cannot enter into agreements on behalf of the UK or anything. So why this expensive visit.
That is an awfully expensive holiday for a non tax paying billionaire. I don’t understand why the UK continue ti hang onto this farce.
The usual excuse that they are good for tourism makes no sense. France has been without a monarchy since the revolution, yet people still come to see the palaces.
P.S. Cowmilla is going to look pretty dowdy next to Bridgette Macron. The latter still got it together. Maybe she can give the Cow a few style tips regarding those mumu’s she insist on wearing in public,
