Angelica Ross says that Emma Roberts misgendered her on the set of ‘AHS: 1984’

Angelica Ross is an actress and transgender advocate and activist. Ross has appeared in shows like Transparent, Pose, Claws and American Horror Story. She was in two AHS seasons – 1984 and Double Feature. During the filming of AHS: 1984, Angelica worked alongside Emma Roberts. Emma Roberts is one of Ryan Murphy’s faves and she’s regularly cast in his projects. Well, Angelica Ross is spilling some tea about what happened during the filming of AHS: 1984. Emma Roberts misgendered her. Apparently, Emma’s behavior is so problematic that at least one other person complained, and that person faced repercussions and not Emma.

I believe Angelica. I think she’s giving some interesting context too, about exactly what Emma did and said. I halfway believe that Emma thought she was “joking” and that’s how it would land. Or hey, maybe Emma is a transphobic bigot and she just says nasty stuff like that all the time. I also believe that Ryan Murphy consistently fosters toxic work environments and he plays favorites with some of the worst and most problematic actresses out there (Sarah Paulson is excluded from this narrative).

Emma Roberts has always been a spoiled brat. And she would absolutely not be where she is without her family connections.

  2. Loretta says:

I’m not surprised, after all Emma beat Evan Peters when they were together

  3. girl_ninja says:

Remember that Emma beat up her then boyfriend Evan Peters. I have no doubt that she is a horrible all around person.

I don’t watch these shows, and I don’t like Emma Roberts. So as I was reading, I thought, yeah, this tracks. Then I scrolled to the picture of Angelica Ross, and every other thought flew out of my head, because OMG she is a GODDESS.

  5. ThatsNotOkay says:

Ryan Murphy refused to shut down production of his show during the WGA portion of the strike, and it was only after SAG walked off that things were forced to pause. He champions people like Lea Michele and Kim Kardashian. Nothing more needs to be said.

Emma is a well known a$$hole so she knew what she was doing and it was not a “joke” and even if it was – that still makes her an a$$hole. Not to mention that the woman clearly has issues with Black folks. Does anyone remember that recent video of her expecting a Black man to move out of her way? Despite her having the entire other side of the doorway open to her?? Or the stories of her being physically and verbally abusive to Evan Peters when they were together? She’s hot garbage and always has been. And there is a reason why Ryan is the only one who will hire her basically. She’s not that great of an actress and has a bad rep.

    • NotTheOne says:

She is problematic and it is very telling she doesn’t get hired.

    • TOPS says:

I don’t think it’s at all a racial thing. Not in this instance I think she’s equally vile to everyone. She’s a little basic bitch I couldn’t pick out of a line up of little basic bitches.

I absolutely loved Season 2 of AHS but I just can’t with anything else Ryan Murphy does. His productions seem to foster a lot of toxicity. Watching the Hulu documentary about Glee, I was shocked at how overworked that young cast was, in addition to all the problematic dynamics behind the scenes.

  8. Macky says:

Ryan Murphy is a problem on his sets. Might be why he leaves after a few years. Ryan uses actors up. He gets them to do things that hurt their future career, all in the name of his projects. The savy actors from his first shows knew to push back, he would than focus on the ones who “went with it”. Not too many of his actors go on to different shows. I think Christopher Gorman has had the most casting success. The nip/tuck cast was older so the “favorites” didn’t work on them.

  9. Saschafrom76 says:

She one of the first people I considered an untalented nepo baby and refused to watch anything this checks out with my vibes

  10. Lau says:

Emma roberts has the worst mean girl energy and ryan murphy seems to love hiring one or two mean girls to just bully the rest of the cast.

    • TOPS says:

Ryan Murphy is the kind of person who thinks Bette Davis was a queen. I mean, yeah, but she had her problems. He likes diva, chaotic bitches. Period. He’s probably one as well. His work is weak and shallow. This nepo shit head won’t stick around or get hired by anyone else.

      • Lau says:

Exactly. She really hasn’t been in anything else than Murphy’s work, it should be telling. I was also refering to Lea Michele when talking about Murphy’s mean girls.

  11. Banana Phone says:

I doubt she’s full-on transphobic, as in, I doubt she has a genuine problem with trans people. To be clear, in NO WAY does that excuse or make acceptable her behavior, which is patently transphobic and awful and we are waaay overdue for her to get the boot from the industry. What I mean is, I think it’s less about Angelica being trans specifically, and more about Emma being such a rotten asshole that she will grasp at the first and/or worst (read: most painful to them) thing she can latch onto about the person in front of her, and if that happens to be her victim’s transness, she’s fine with that. Again, still fully transphobic and horrible and fuck her entirely. I’m just saying she’s so deeply damaged and terrible that it can/has/will be whatever she calculates to do the most harm (or be easiest to reach, as she’s also a lazy cow).

Fingers crossed this finally breaks the dam on both her and, more importantly, Ryan fucking Murphy.

  12. J.Mo says:

The headline doesn’t emphasize that what she said was intentional and meant to be mean. My elderly mother sometimes misgenders my trans daughter but it’s always in error and something she works on doing less and less, almost never now. Emma meant to be hateful and mean.

    • Turtledove says:

Agreed J.Mo. I thought the same thing when I read the article, the title is written in a way that doesn’t fully characterize what happened. “Emma Roberts is an asshole” would be more accurate.

Misgendering can sometimes happen as an accident (probably more with someone you know, and likely knew before they transitioned). What she did is way more intentional and mean than that.

    • @poppedbubble says:

The way Emma was described as acting in the video suggests otherwise. “Don’t you mean lady” and covering your face and looking sly does not bode well for an innocent faux pas.

  13. Izzy says:

It seems as though Ryan Murphy is just a mean girl who likes working with mean girls.

  14. Myeh says:

I feel so bad for Angelica Ross having to show restraint around this entitled transphobic nepo baby a*hole. Imagine having to do that knowing if you speak up you will face on the job retaliation like another employee faced. I believe Angelica and any disingenuous apology from Emma is only going to be to save her own rep. Just UGH plus I’ve seen a bowl of oatmeal with more presence than Emma.
