Gwen Stefani: It was amazing to ‘experience love like that for the first time’ with Blake

Gwen Stefani covers this week’s issue of People Magazine. It’s a really nice piece, honestly. Gwen is in a good place professionally and personally, she’s happy and she adores her husband, Blake Shelton. As I was reading the cover story, it hit me that those two dorks have been together for SEVEN YEARS. That was when Gwen and Gavin Rossdale split at basically the same time as Blake and Miranda Lambert. It feels like it just happened a couple of years ago, but no, seven years. Blake and Gwen fell for each other hard and fast. They never looked back either, and what kills me is that no one would have ever put them together, and yet they’re so perfect for one another. She’s turned into Mrs. Family Values, Git Er Done In Oklahoma, and Blake is perfectly comfortable with their LA life too. They flat-out enjoy each other so much. Some highlights from People:

She loves to garden now: “When I was young, I’d walk home from school and see my mom in her shorts doing her gardening, and my dad would be cutting the trees and make me pick up the branches. I’d be like, ‘I’m never having a tree at my house,'” she recalls. Yet these days, when she and her husband Blake Shelton are at their home near Tishomingo, Oklahoma, the rocker tends to far more than just a lone tree. They have sunflowers. Zinnias. Even plots of corn. “I just had the most incredible dahlias ever… When we get to Oklahoma, we’re constantly working — and it’s a different kind of work. It’s probably what my mom was doing back in the day, and now I get it!”

She never saw it coming: “I didn’t see any of this coming with Blake. This was just a big old ‘What?’ It was an amazing gift to experience love like that for the first time. He’s changed my life … when I [started dating] Blake, that’s when I felt home, like, ‘Oh, this is where I’m supposed to be, with this guy.”

Life in Oklahoma: “I am not really a dirt person, a bug person, I don’t like that much humidity. But it’s so beautiful [in Oklahoma], and you kind of feel like you’re going into this vortex. Nature — and God — is all right there.”

Spending more time with her kids: “I took Kingston on a world tour [when he was 9 months old]. I would have to nurse him, then get onstage, come off, and he would twirl my ponytail. That’s when things got really hard for me emotionally. That time is so precious, and you don’t want to miss anything.” Stefani says she powered through with a personal goal in mind: “When my kids were teenagers, I really wanted to make sure that I was home for them — and here we are.”

Blake’s decision to step away from The Voice: It “was a huge family choice. I am happy for him because he has space to do all these other hobbies and things he wants to do.”

Now she works with John Legend, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire: “I was really weirded out like, ‘What’s it going to be like without Blake?’ But we are having so much fun. At the end of the day, coaching these humans who are so gifted … I love it.”

Her divorce from Gavin: “Everybody pretty much knows that at one point my life fell apart. It was terrible, and there’s so many people out there that have gone through the same thing. When that happened, I had to literally start over again. It was a reset of my life.”

Her chaotic life: “It’s literally schedule, schedule, schedule. [But] there is a balance. For me the only way that I’ve gotten this far is with my spiritual faith and being able to take time out to pray. You see the miracles, and that’s inspiration and fuel to keep it going.”

[From People]

The rocker girl from California has a flower garden in Oklahoma and she loves it. I really am happy for them and I hope nothing bad ever happens to them. I can’t believe they’ve become one of those couples for me, where I wouldn’t be able to take it if they broke up. Thinking again about the timeline of her split with Gavin… like, so much sh-t was happening, gossip-wise, in 2016. I wonder if she and Angelina Jolie ever talked about how their lives and marriages fell apart around the same time? They used to be friends and their kids are a similar age. Hm.

I was so cynical about them when they first got together, but now I’m really rooting for them too! Gwen has always been religious and also someone who tries to mold herself to her partner, and it turns out country boy Blake’s life really compliments who she is? Like it’s a life she wouldn’t have gone out and made for herself but it turns out it’s a life that suits her very much. I’m happy for her.

My opinion on him has completely turned due to this relationship too. She’s not just of an age with him, she’s older, and that’s rare enough with men in that industry. And men who embrace being stepfathers are way up there for me too. From what I’ve seen, he appears to love Gwen’s boys and is a really good dad to them.

    • Lucy says:

Him being an enthusiastic stepdad/dad does take him up ten notches for me. I’ve known several guys who were rough around the edges and not openly great people, and then you eventually find out the kids they mention all the time have a different last name. Being a step parent is hard, and I’m impressed when people step up and do it fully.

Lol, I bet they do a lot of gardening, not much else to do in Tishomingo. She’s not wrong about the bugs & humidity.

    • Elizabeth Phillips says:

Well, there’s also that restaurant of Blake’s. There’s more to do in Durant, especially at the casino.

      • Mslove says:

It is beautiful country down there, I’ll give her that. I like to go hiking at the Ouachita National recreation trail which isn’t too far from Tishomingo. I can’t see Gwen doing any hiking, though.

Her face, I was taken a back when I saw the head pic

    • TikiChica says:

Yeah, I didn’t recognise her from that picture.

    • Kitten says:

It’s so frustrating because there was a brief window of time when she started doing the plastic surgery where she looked REALLY good and now….? Sigh. And ALL the makeup!!! I love love love makeup but as we age, we just have to tone it way down because ultimately, it just makes us look older and that’s at least partly why she looks so terrible here.

      • Ameerah M says:

As we age we don’t have to do anything. These arbitrary rules about what women SHOULD do when we get older are ridiculous.

      • Kitten says:

Sure you don’t have to, but you WILL look older. That’s just facts. Same as having plastic surgery–you can get as much of it as you want but there are consequences and sometimes it’s not the one that you’re aiming for. To me, all the PS and the loads of makeup ages Gwen. *shrugs*

      • Ameerah M says:

I’m speaking specifically about your comments regarding makeup. That type of thinking is silly IMO.

      • Kitten says:

I know what you were speaking about and I still stand by what I said: a full face of heavy makeup makes women look older. If you don’t give a shit about that, that’s fine– go for it.

      • Ameerah M says:

@Kitten – I’m glad that we both agree that opinions aren’t rules. And there is no SHOULD in how a woman chooses to present herself to the world.

    • Tila says:

Yep. I audibly gasped when I saw the header. My partner next to me jumped.

  4. Mimi says:

Gwen is not a nice person, never really has been. Her dirt will come out eventually.

    • MaryContrary says:

      Such as ???

      • Jaded says:

Cultural appropriation of East Indian and Native American dress, her “Harajuku Girls” phase where she had a troop of Japanese dancers follow her around everywhere. She copied a subversive youth culture in Japan and turned it into a bunch of submissive giggling Asian women. She’s had beefs with Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga.

  5. Twin Falls says:

Are there people who do enjoy bugs and humidity?

Congrats on the seven years together and good for them for making it work and finding happiness.

“She’s turned into Mrs. Family Values”

I think Gwen has always been that girl who wanted to be married and have babies. From her relationship with her band mate in No Doubt, to Gavin. This time around she just married a country guy from Oklahoma. She also takes on the persona of the men she’s in love with. It’s nice that she’s found love especially after the way Gavin f!cked her over so publicly.

I’m suspicious of this article. She does this stuff when things are NOT ok. She did the same with Gavin. Divorce rumors are out there already… just google. I hope they are not true as I’m not cheering on divorce for them but the base reason for the rumors sounds classic Gwen. Can’t stay single long so she gets into a relationship and then forces it to last even when the situation has run its course. That she hates living in Wyoming year around and wants a baby with Blake and a reality show to connect more with her fans and capitalize on her big make up brand launch. He doesn’t like L.A., is fine being step dad and will not do the reality show. Also and Gavin confirmed this a bit, she is very strict with dieting and makes Blake and the kids follow her rules on eating habits when the kids are with her. That they don’t co-parent they just parent and are very different in how they raise the kids.

    • Jaded says:

She’s 53, unless she uses a gestational carrier or adopts, a baby ain’t on the horizon. Gavin was a serial cheater (with their nanny at one point) so she had every right to divorce his ass. Blake is apparently very close to her sons, and yes, Gwen is a vegetarian but hasn’t imposed her eating habits on Blake and her sons, but he has cut back on red meat and excess carbs which is good because he was lookin’ pretty chunky. Unless you know them personally I wouldn’t go flapping your gums about their lives together, they seem very happy together.

      • wellyaknow says:

@jaded why so triggered lol. take every seat and you don’t know them personally either LOL or did you think you did? Ever hear of surrogacy? This is all in recent and all over the internet already deal with it. She admitted to having those crazy diet obsessions and and eating disorder which I felt was brave of her. I don’t think Gavin treated her right. Does that help do you feel better now ?

  8. VespaRed says:

I find it very hard to believe that she gardens. She’s always had that genre of fingernails, I can’t see her actually doing much manual labor.

  9. Leslie says:

Gwen looks so plastic and is so insecure, I hope that she just stops being so fake.
