Taylor Swift ordered pasta, cinnamon rolls & French Blonde cocktails at Rye KC

As many of you know, one of my favorite sub-genres of celebrity gossip is “what did rich people order when they visited such-and-such hotspot.” I still remember the absolutely crazy energy people brought to the discussion about the Sussexes eating ricotta and steak tartare in New York. Nowadays, Taylor Swift is a regular in all of the New York hotspots, but she’s also spending a lot of time in Kansas City, because that’s where Travis Kelce lives and works. She’s becoming more familiar with the city, and she’s befriended all of the Chiefs’ WAGs as well. Which means that Taylor and the Chiefs WAGs went out to one of Kansas City’s most popular restaurants and Page Six had an exclusive about what they ate and how Taylor picked up the tab. The place is called Rye and you can see their dinner menu here – it’s apparently known for fried chicken, but no one ordered the fried chicken! GHASTLY.

Taylor Swift treated herself and her new Kansas City girl squad to some delicious Midwestern comfort food over the holidays, Page Six has learned. Megan Garrelts, the co-owner of Rye restaurant in Leawood, Kan., tells us exclusively that the pop superstar arrived at their eatery on Dec. 30 with a group of about eight women — all wives or girlfriends of Chiefs’ players — including quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes.

“We have some history with serving [the Chiefs] through the years,” Garrelts explains, noting that Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, also frequents their Leawood and Kansas City, Mo., locations. “He comes in pretty often to both. He’s awesome. He’s super nice. He loves saying, ‘Hi,’ to people in the restaurant … He’s been a little bit more private, he sits in the private room, but normally he sits in the main dining room with his friends and handlers. He’s great.”

Garrelts tells Page Six that ahead of Swift’s first time at Rye, she and her husband, co-owner Colby Garrelts, received a call that someone notable would be visiting the restaurant, but they weren’t aware it would be the 12-time Grammy winner. When Swift, 34, arrived at around 7:30 p.m. local time, Megan and Colby greeted her, her security team and group of pals at a private entrance, where they shook hands with the “Cruel Summer” songstress.

“She was very, very nice,” Megan says, adding that Swift and her friends were then escorted to a private room, where other patrons could not see the “Shake It Off” singer dining. “Due to the nature of when we have a high profile guest, we try to keep it pretty on the down-low just out of respect for privacy,” the proprietor explains. “Nobody really knew she was there.”

When it came time to order, Swift did not mind any Hollywood diet and indulged in some of Rye’s yummiest menu items. We’re told the group ordered goat cheese and a cheese plate for their appetizers, and while most of the women chose salmon as their entrée, Swift opted for a tasty plate of pasta. The “Bad Blood” singer also ordered a French Blonde as her drink of choice, which Megan points out, “From our understanding, [that is] her favorite cocktail.”

The co-owner adds, “All the girls had cocktails, so it was definitely a lively girls night, which was fun to see.”

Back at the table later in the evening, Swift and her friends enjoyed some dessert, including Rye’s famous banana cream and lemon meringue pie.

“One of the girls had a birthday, so we put a candle in one of the desserts,” Megan tells us, before noting that she then brought a to-go box of cinnamon rolls for the ladies to take home. However, Swift asked to eat one there and apparently already knew about the decadent treat because her boyfriend is a big fan.

“It was pretty cool because Travis … he always requests our cinnamon roll, so I would think that he must have said something to her since she was going to Rye,” Megan says. “That was pretty fun, so we warmed it up.”

The dinner wrapped up after around three hours at 10:30 p.m. local time, and we’re told Swift kindly picked up the tab — although the exact amount was not disclosed.

Why would anyone go to a restaurant apparently known for their fried chicken and order the salmon or a pasta dish?? I didn’t even see pasta on the dinner menu but maybe it was a special or something. Anyway, not what I would have ordered! I had to look up the French Blonde as well, I’ve never heard of that cocktail. It’s very citrusy and not what I would have expected from Taylor – I would have thought that she would love a much sweeter cocktail. Also: I really want to try their in-house bread and their cinnamon rolls. Their whole dessert menu looked amazing though.

Brittany Mahomes in that photo lol. Girl, you’re doing too much.

I kind of don’t know how to feel about down home TayTay. As a midwesterner, I just keep feeling like she’ll never be one of us, no matter how much Mac and cheese she eats lol. NYC seems like her element to me. This gives Hallmark Christmas movie where cool career woman goes home for the holidays and falls in love with local Home Depot Ken… I guess it’s fine, I just… Wonder if her next album will be about Buffalo Wild Wings and Belk.

    • Slush says:

She won’t be an interloper for long. As soon as Travis retires (assuming they’re still together), they’ll be back to NYC for good.

      • Justjj says:

See, Travis also seems out of place in NYC but maybe she can give him a makeover with time and slowly Tayfluence his style…

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

Hallmark do love a blue collar man domesticates big city woman as a plotline.

    • Lindsey says:

You do know that Taylor is from PA & Travis is from OH right?
To me, it makes total sense.

      • Zengirl says:

It does to me too! Plus, I think, for those who haven’t been to KC, it may sound like the boonies, but it’s actually pretty, I don’t want to say cosmopolitan, but there is a definite modern hipster vibe there, sorta a midwest Austin. It’s fun, has great food, and there is a lot of money there. So I can see that combo (back home plus hipster) being pretty attractive for Taylor.

      • Kitten says:

They’re both from cities in relatively rural states so yes, their backgrounds are similar in that sense. Both essentially started their careers as teenagers. And it’s not like Travis is some country bumpkin who isn’t comfortable in cities–he very clearly is. IDK. I feel like they share a lot in common?

      • phlyfiremama says:

        Exactly
They have private planes at their disposal and can be ANYWHERE in a matter of hours.

I live ten minutes from the Leawood Rye and the fried chicken is heaven. The shrimp and grits is one of my faves as well as their amazing Mac & Cheese. Looking at their menu makes me crave a their pies…goodbye New Year’s resolutions.

  4. Angie says:

I love Rye!! Great brunch. Love the vibe there. Homey.

  5. Cecil says:

I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I just cannot stand a cinnamon roll. It’s just so overly sweet and really quite flavorless. Yeast dough already tends towards sweet, the cinnamon often doesn’t have any actual flavor, and then it’s drenched in icing drowning out any flavor the cinnamon might have. And the texture gets so gummy when you’re eating; it’s like chewing sweet cement. Yuck.

Also, there are two locations, and the Rye Leawood location (which I think is the one she went to, from the description of the owner) has a pasta dish. Lamb and pork ragu with mushrooms! Sounds pretty good; I would have ordered that over the salmon as well.

    • B says:

A lot of restaurants have plain pasta for the kids. She could have gotten that dressed up KC style, lol.

  6. Barrett says:

Her shows demand so much stamina girls gotta eat! This sounds like fun. I’m looking forward to a new Taylor style era. She can wear whatever she wants but now that she is in her 30’s and such a successful business woman/pop star I’d love more power dressing. Her in more colored blazer dresses or sexy cut dresses. I love a plaid mini and I’m 5’10 but I phased them out as I grew older bc I started to look wanna be twee. But she may do what she wants as part of her image…. Anyway it’s fun to see her fashion regardless….

  7. Southern Fried says:

Still enjoy hearing about them and their friends and where they go and what they eat. Restaurant menus is a thing always. About fried chicken, I have to be in the mood which doesn’t happen very often. Those who complain about Brittany Mahomes may want to avoid articles about Travis (& Taylor) since they are close friends and have been for years. Brittany is a powerhouse herself.

  8. sunny says:

Ok but this sounds delicious. I think Taylor and Travis are in it to win it. We’ve seen them support each other and meet each others families in the short time they’ve been together. And, Taylor who has an insane career schedule and a huge friend circle, seemingly working hard to befriend the other WAGS and spend time with them- that is a positive sign.

If I was Taylor and burning so much calories during shows, the way I would eat the whole damn menu.

  9. Fwiw says:

That cocktail would be decently sweet with the Lillet and Edelower in it. I made a cocktail like that for a NYE party a few years back with frozen kiwi rounds as the ice / decor and they were a big hit

  10. Libra says:

The carbs. The calories. O to be young again with a great metabolism!

  11. Lindsey says:

Rye is yummy and their deserts are amazing! We went quite a few times when we lived in that area but only ordered the fried chicken once. There’s so many other yummy things. I wonder if this will get them in trouble with Taylor and Travis.

  12. J Blakely says:

I’m sorry but I just cannot with Taylor’s bangs anymore. They just don’t sit right on her face.

  13. blue says:

I thought I was the only one who can’t stand the weird bangs. It’s even worse when she pastes them sideways, like a horizontal swoop across the forehead. Is she trying to hide some ugly birthmark or scar? Her face is pretty but she needs a better ‘do.
