Tom Hiddleston & Zawe Ashton attended the BAFTA Tea Party in LA

Here are some photos from Saturday’s BAFTA Tea Party event in Los Angeles. BAFTA – the British Film Academy – hosts an annual tea party in LA during the awards season, although I’m pretty sure the date has changed several times in recent years. It’s just one of many events on the awards-season circuit, although thankfully for most celebrities, they’re not expected to go all-out in gowns and tuxedos. Most women just wore cute dresses and the men mostly wore suits with no ties.

I’m surprised to see that Tom Hiddleton and his partner/fiancee Zawe Ashton were even in town. Let me see why they were in LA this weekend… oh, Tom was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for Loki, that’s why. Loki was snubbed at the Emmys though, but I bet he’ll turn up at the Emmys anyway! Anyway, Tom and Zawe are very cute together but Zawe’s dress is awful! So unflattering.

I’m also including photos of Rosamund Pike (in a twee Simone Rocha), Quinta Brunson (in Monique Lhullier) and Emily Blunt (in Oscar de la Renta, without her husband). Other people attending this event: Paul Giamatti, Elizabeth Debicki, Carey Mulligan, America Ferrera and Mark Ruffalo.

Loki wasn’t snubbed for the Emmys; it wasn’t eligible for this years’s awards (2022-2023) because it aired after the cutoff date. It will be eligible for the next round of 2023-2024 Emmy awards in September. The strikes pushed the ceremony back but not the qualification dates

The Critics Choice awards use a different eligibility calendar

  2. I’m sorry but Emily looks like she is wearing a broken bit of rattan from a chair seat that needs to be re-woven.

I like Zawe’s dress. I like that she is showing off her curves. She has been wearing sack dresses since she gave birth and she has a great post-baby body. I wonder if the dress is Mara Hoffman. Mara Hoffman has done a lot of dresses with that textured fabric. I own a black Mara Hoffman dress that is one of my all-time favorite dresses. I wore it to a holiday party in Vegas last month.

America’s dress is giving Jessica McClintock and I’m not here for it. I like Quinta’s dress. I think the tea length works better for her petite frame. I hate Emily’s dress. With Rosamund, I preferred the other version of that dress she wore recently- the floor length pink one. This one is giving bridesmaid.

So agree. I got to the second page before I saw a headline I wanted to click on first. Zawe’s look is amazing. Early on, after the baby I get sack dressing and easy clothes where spit up etc. is fine, especially the first three months or so. But, to go out and celebrate the gorgeous evolution is a change to be celebrated. Also, envious, I have a goal of owning a Mara Hoffman dress someday. I fell in love with her designs after seeing Alok Vaid-Menon in one of her dresses.

She really knows how to cut dresses for women’s bodies. I always feel SO confident and good about my body in my Mara dress when I wear it.

Zawe looks great. Love the dress. Great colour for her skin tone.

    • The Old Chick says:

Fwiw I love it too. So many actresses these days are even more stick thin than previously, it gives me shudders.. Zawe is beautiful and has a few post baby curves. Why hide that under a sack? The colour is lovely and the ruffle bit? whatever, is fun.

    • Yup, Me says:

I think Zawe’s dress would look better without the arm bouquet part. And her earrings and shoes don’t work together or with the dress.

I love Emily’s dress. It would look amazing on me.

Tom H., you smiling tall drink of water and his partner both look terrific.
Emily B., like the color, hate the dress.

  5. MaryContrary says:

I hate the oversize suit look. It looks just ridiculous-like children trying on their parents’ suits. Cannot wait for this trend to be over.

    • Libra says:

Strong agree. Carey Mulligan looks ridiculous in this oversized whatever costume. Ditch this trend ASAP.

  6. Amy Bee says:

I think Zawe looks fabulous. It’s good to see women not afraid to show their post partum bodies.

  7. SarahCS says:

Some oversize suits work, some do not. This one does not.

Whoever designed/signed off the bust on Emily’s dress needs to go to fashion jail for a while and think about they they did. I’m not a fan of the whole thing but the bust is truly atrocious.

Poor Rosamund. Why would you do that to her?? Did they just take a child’s dressing-up dress and scale it up?

    • Lilly (with the double -L) says:

I’ve really been wanting an oversize-look blazer and if I saw Carey’s as an introduction to the look, I never would. But, I’m kinda over her as a wyt woman playing Latina women. But, in kindness, casting people could start with that lens.

Now I’m off to find Lily Gladstone. She must be in one of the posts here? Also, Tom & Lorenzo have had stellar coverage of Lily. I love that they link and name the Native/Indigenous artists she wears.

  8. Glamarazzi says:

Everyone saved their “fun” looks for this lower-key event, haha!

  9. one of the marys says:

Tom, Mark and Cillian look good. Zawe looks fantastic in that colour. I know it’s a tea party but I’d like the dress if it was floor length, or had less textured sleeves or was sleeveless.

  10. JaneS says:

Oversized suits with always be David Bryne/Talking Heads to me.
Every time, it’s my first thought.
