Florence Pugh wore Harris Reed to the BAFTAs: one of the best looks of the night?

Years ago, I remember sort of begging Florence Pugh to find a style which could complement her short, petite frame. It took her a minute, but she’s really been killing it for the past year or so. I would imagine some of that is better access to designers, or maybe she’s just developed a better style, in general. Miss Flo turned up at the BAFTAs in this bespoke Harris Reed and I really like this whole look. Just the right amount of drama, you can tell that she did fittings and everything fits like a glove.

Cillian Murphy won the Best Actor BAFTA and he seemed happy about it. In press, after his win, he was talking about being a proud Irishman, but none of the British journalists asked him about moving out of the UK so his kids wouldn’t have British accents.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph is a sure thing for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, and perhaps she always has been. Her work in The Holdovers was beautiful and heartbreaking, and designers have been creating so many customized pieces for her throughout the season. At the BAFTAs, she wore this Robert Wun to pick up another major award. I love the drama of this but I wish the top part had been a brighter color.

Naomi Campbell in Chanel. Naomi’s style is usually more streamlined than this, and it feels way too fussy for her. Too much fabric.

Lily Collins in Tamara Ralph. Just kind of dated and and bad, but not offensively so. A big meh.

I hate to do this to her, but Lashana Lynch was my pick for worst dressed at the BAFTAs, along with Emma Stone. Lynch’s Prada is ghastly.

I love Florence Pugh but this dress does nothing for her. It’s pulling her breasts almost to her arm pits and that silver belt thing is accentuating her shorter waist. Her hair and makeup look fabulous though.

I found myself super nervous for her – how are her breasts staying in there? She’s a lovely woman, but this dress is overcomplicated and anxiety-inducing for me.

I absolutely understand that not every woman wants a dress that will make her breasts look bigger/perkier/more obvious/etc. but there has been a real trend in recent years to almost try and ignore that women have them and they need some love and support.

Some time ago when my friend was having treatment for breast cancer we were chatting about a possible mastectomy on a group call and saying obviously we’d come and help her pick news ones and wouldn’t that make for a great tv show – Say Yes to the Breasts. I feel like the Dress/Breasts concepts need to be re-combined as designers are not saying yes to the breasts these days.

Florence Pugh’s commitment to wearing the absolute worst clothing and looking terrible is really something. She is a STUNNING woman but between the hair, makeup, and constant slew of terrible gowns… she really is trying to fight the pretty.

Love Flo’s hair and make-up but I can only see cat eyes with that dress, and it does not flatter the bustline. It’s ok but it’s not great.

Tailoring is everything, and on a petite frame it’s vital.

  5. Yup, Me says:

Naomi’s dress looks like Red Riding Hood grew up, married two or three (or more times), all of her husbands mysteriously died and she has a major story to tell about it all. The subtitle of her book will be “The Wolf was the Least of my Worries”

I’m distracted by Flo’s smashed breasts pulled over under her pits. It’s almost like she’s wearing a binder. She looks beautiful though, and other than that, I have no quibble. Lashana looks miserabel in her Prada, as she should be. They did her dirty there.

I have yet to see a truly beautiful look from the BAFTAs. Hate Pugh’s look. The only decent look I’ve seen is Dua Lipa’s and even that is not that impressive. There have so many great looks on other carpets this year – I don’t know what happened here. Even Ayo, who’s been amazing all awards season, looks blah and basic. And this peach trend needs to end now. It’s screaming 80s prom/bridesmaid nightmare.

  8. Libra says:

No Flo, just no. The two little black breast cups look like quotation marks. The whole look is just too fussy with too many components for her small frame. At first glance, the white corset thing a mabob looks as if it started out as a bathing suit.

    Yay Cillian!

I wonder if Randolph decided to change her hair color after ordering the dress? I think the peachy color would look great on her — with her usual (?) darker colored hair.

I feel like I’ve been seeing peachy colors everywhere recently.

I hate most of these BAFTA dresses — BUT I applaud everyone’s willingness to try new styles, take a few risks, and play around a bit. So: Yay?

Florence not wearing a sheer Valentino -thank God. Harris Reed does beautiful clothing and this was a good choice for her. Da’Vine looked DIVINE and I actually like the soft pink on her. With the rest of the intricate draping a bolder color would have been too much. As for Lashana Lynch…I get what they were going for and I’m not mad at the idea. But the execution wasn’t what it could have been.

  11. LeahTheFrench says:

Actually I don’t think Florence has worked out her style red carpet formula at all – this is not particularly flattering. It’s squeezing her boobs within one inch of their life, makes her mid section appear thicker, fails to elongate her frame, and looks plain uncomfortable.
Lashana Lynch: I’m so pissed at Prada. She’s a striking, statuesque, naturally elegant woman with perfect posture (remember her in the woman king?), and they did this to her. I mean, that’s just sabotage. Infuriating.

  12. Anne Keane says:

Cillian moved back home. That’s enough. I’m glad British journos didn’t ask about Cillian’s kids’ accent, unless he raised it. I don’t like Flo’s dress. I am not a fan of most of her outfits. Good actress but style wise not so much.

  13. Kittenmom says:

Absolutely love Flo’s hair and makeup. She has a beautiful face.
