Ayo Edebiri wore Luar to the SAG Awards: super-cute or too much fabric?

Ayo Edebiri continued her wonderful awards-season run at the SAG Awards, where she picked up the actress award for The Bear, then the show won Best Ensemble. Ayo has now won an Emmy, Critics Choice, Golden Globe and SAG Award. Her life has changed dramatically in just six weeks – it’s really something. Ayo has been having a lot of fun with her awards-season fashion too, she hasn’t stuck with one designer or one particular style. I kind of think this Luar ensemble was a miss though – it’s giving droopy Amish? But whatever, she’s young and she’s experimenting.

Greta Lee is another experimenter – I’m surprised she didn’t wear another look from Loewe (she’s basically a brand ambassador now), but this is from The Row. This would look soooo much better without the gloves.

Colman Domingo is really the best-dressed man at every awards show. He wore Off-White!

Reese Witherspoon wore Elie Saab. She looks great – flattering dress, great color, good hair & makeup. Simple.

Melissa McCarthy wore Puey Quinones and she had one of the best jokes of the night, presenting with Billie Eilish. This was such a good bit!

Ayo’s dress gave her T-Rex arms 🦖 which is unacceptable to me no matter how cute it is. Women’s clothes should not be so constricting that you can’t move your shoulders or elbows.

That said, I don’t think the top of the dress is cute at all so what’s the point of being that restricted?

    • PinkOrchid says:

LOL T-Rex arms! This explains why I hate when Meghan wears those capes, like that Givenchy houndstooth at Kevin Costner’s shindig/benefit last summer. T-Rex arms is not a good look.

Most of the bits I saw were unbearable to watch but Melissa and Billie were cute!

I suspect Ayo’s dress is better in motion and in person

Reese’s dress is boring but she does know how to dress for her height. And the colour is good

Colman Domingo has been a revelation. He really has a great adventurous taste in men’s fashion

Yeah I don’t think Ayo’s dress photographs that well but I think it was probably better in person? Maybe?

Reese looks good, its boring and classic Reese but it works for her. Much better than the 80s prom dress she wore….to the Globes? Or was that the Oscars last year?

    I love Ayo’s look!!!

    • Jess says:

Me too! And Greta’s look. I actually like the gloves with it – it gives it an edge.

Me three. I also love Ayo-so she’s one of those people that I absolutely grade on a curve because I’m such a fan girl.

    • Kim says:

Very much agree. Ayo’s look is fun and new. And yes to Greta’s gloves. It brings an edginess to her look that is refreshing.

    • QuiteContrary says:

Same! It’s such a fresh look!

    • Aurora says:

Me four! I think it just needed a bit more of a statement necklace, but I LOVED the kaftan-kimono feel and well-deployed draping. The fabric gives an additional twist and the dress’ cut is still very flattering.
I used to find JAW hot, but at every of his promotional events he looks like thinking ‘Oh, I’m the cat’s pajamas’.

  5. Marie says:

I never thought an Elie Saab gown could look so basic but here we are. Also Ayo did not win for Supporting. She was the Best Actress. There are no supporting awards at SAG for TV. This is why both Ebon and JAW are nominated for the same category.

  6. Seraphina says:

Ayo’s look seems out of place compared the ball gowns there and more formal attire, but I do like it.
    And Greta Lee looked awesome.

    • Mimi says:

Yes, it looks like a dress for a cocktail event, not a formal event.

    • Normades says:

Agree. I actually really like the dress, it’s interesting but seems like an odd anticlimactic choice for her last award of the season.
Would have been fine for a premiere or something else though.

I kinda fell that the gloves made the outfit , Gretas i mean. She was stunning!

  8. girl_ninja says:

Ayo looked fabulous as usual. To me it was a suble glamour and she pulled it off. Melissa’s dress was not good at all but her hair and make-up were on point.

  9. swaz says:

I do like Ayo’s dress, but she looks so uncomfortable in it.

  10. MsIam says:

Way too much fabric on Ayo. Don’t like those gloves on Greta Lee and the dress is just blah but the color is pretty. Reese’s dress fits her nice and she looks glam.

  11. lucy2 says:

    Happy for Ayo!
Don’t like any of the dresses here, except Reese’s, I think she looks fantastic. The dress is simple but beautifully structured.

  12. Ameerah M says:

I like Ayo’s dress – but I think it would have been better at an different awards show – maybe Critic’s Choice? I think the issue with the overall look is that it feels under-styles. She needed more jewelry, different hair…something. Greta’s look grew on me and the gloves keep it from being too basic. Reese always looks the same to me. She’s found a look she likes and she sticks to it. It’s pretty. But boring.

  13. M says:

I’m just here for Colman Domingo. He is so talented and charming, and he knows how to dress.

  14. Diamond Rottweiler says:

The fabric of Ayo’s dress doesn’t work with the design. Imagine it with a richer, more fluid fabric, something luxe. This is droopy, tablecloth-washed-too-many-times material. But she has great style generally so maybe it was much better in person?
