Julianne Hough: You don’t have to sit still to meditate, you can go for a walk

I haven’t written or thought about Julianne Hough in years. Her marriage to Brooks Laich fell apart in 2020 (during the pandemic) and that made me sad, because Brooks is very hot and I would ride that until the wheels came off. Julianne started seeing other people at some point, but I don’t think she’s been in a serious relationship in a while. So, obviously, she got a puppy! In February, she went Instagram-official with her puppy, Sunny Hough, and she recently chatted with People Magazine about her new dog-intensive routines.

Julianne Hough is loving the perks of being a dog mom. At the launch of her new venture, the Kinrgy Fitness Studio, in West Hollywood, California, on Friday, Hough, 35, told PEOPLE that spending her mornings with her new puppy, Sunny, has improved her mental health.

“Our morning ritual is we’ll play in bed. I’ll wake her up and she’ll come and get into bed and we will play for a good, solid 15 minutes,” the Dancing with the Stars co-host says. “You’ll be surprised when you’re laughing and playing and totally present with a dog — how much that changes your energy,” she adds of the positive impact that spending quality time with her dog has had on her mental health.

After they play in bed for a little bit, the dancer takes the puppy out for a walk, during which she does “breath work” or tries to clear her mind as much as possible in a practice she calls “movement meditation.”

“Some people think that you have to sit and meditate and be still, and I find that when I’m walking I can actually clear my head more,” Hough notes, adding that she was “bored” of her mornings by herself before Sunny came along.

“Nothing better than a dog,” she declares.

I absolutely believe that walking is meditative, and she’s right that you don’t have to sit and be still to be in a meditative or decompressing head space. Don’t get me wrong, I love to be still and use breathing exercises to calm myself too, but nothing beats walking for clearing my head and decompressing. It’s cool that Julianne, who is sort of a fitness/dance/movement expert, is promoting walking. As for her new puppy… that’s her fur baby! Sunny is adorable.

I know nothing about her but I hate it when famous people tell us things that are so obvious and well known and done for centuries, almost like it’ll be a revelation. Ditto celebrities and their pregnancies and kids. Sorry, your kids are the least interesting thing about you; you’re showing off by proxy. I’m not anti kids, got enough of my own, but celebrities talking about their progeny and their yoga and their wellness crap is so boring. Going for a cup of tea.

I don’t get why anyone is paying any attention to this woman when they could easily do so with someone who hasn’t publicly donned blackface. https://www.laineygossip.com/Julianne-Hough-goes-out-for-Halloween-in-blackface-and-apologises/28452

I disagree. Celebrities trying to make believe that they have their own twist on trends that they don’t even do irks me. Walking and having thoughts at the same is not meditating. Meditation is meditation, walking is walking, running is running and sleeping is sleeping. You dont meditate, you’re not doing it. Simple as that. Kate hudson said that she was meditating while having a run too a few years back. Eyeroll

There is a different value and benefit in literally being still in a seated position that is different than when you’re head is “cleared” by doing an activity. Meditation is supposed to literally be ‘non doing’. No other activity that helps distract your mind. It’s actually sitting with yourself. IMO it is more challenging than hiking/yoga etc. Doesn’t make it better no, but the stillness makes it more challenging.

All these things are good and no you don’t HAVE to meditate but it’s not the same as hiking and having your head cleared cause you’re outside in mature. Both good but they are NOT the same!

Walking meditation is a thing. Ask a a Buddhist. Not all do it . You can google it. Of all the things to judge on, why attack walking meditation? I don’t get it

Walking meditation is a thing (I took a course in college and had to try both), but it’s a deliberate meditative act, not just going for a walk. I definitely don’t see how you could do it with a dog in tow.

Remember her country music ‘career’ where suddenly she had a southern accent? Lol
Or when she screamed at an energy healing demonstration event I’m sure she was paid to attend in Europe?
I always get the impression from her that she’s about as deep a puddle. If she was kind, I’d say it was harmless but she did blackface so not so harmless.
And yes, who would leave that beautiful man she married?

JH is always trying to sell some wellness product. Now she has discovered walking lol.
I admit to “hate-following” her, because she is as deep as a puddle, all fake positivity, but I really like her dancing exercises and the classes are fun.
She was in a serious/long term relationship with actor Ben Barnes. Don’t know if they are still together, but I remember seeing some stuff about them on DeuxMoi and if you google that are several photos (from when she was still married to Brooks, btw).
