US Ambassador to the UK: President Biden will never deport Prince Harry

The UK and the US have deep ties going back for more than a century. It was during World War II that the tie between our two countries was called “the special relationship.” We share intelligence, we work together militarily, we are strong diplomatic and financial allies, and there are informal rules and customs between Downing Street and the White House which reinforce this special relationship. Decades and decades of alliance between our countries. And now, in this current era, that special relationship has devolved to “is America going to deport Prince Harry??” Like, the British media has repeatedly contacted the American embassy in London to get Ambassador Jane Hartley on the record about all things Sussex. It’s insane. Well, guess what? Ambassador Hartley was asked yet again about the Sussexes, this time about Donald Trump’s promise to deport Prince Harry on the Heritage Foundation’s say-so.

Prince Harry is safe to stay in America as long as Joe Biden remains president, the US ambassador said today as she laughed off Donald Trump’s threats to take ‘appropriate action’ against him.

The Republican frontrunner said last week that the Duke of Sussex could face consequences if he is found to have lied about taking drugs on his US visa application. US Ambassador Jane Hartley was asked about his comments in an interview today. She laughed off the suggestion Harry could be deported, telling Sky News: ‘It’s not gonna happen in the Biden administration.’

Harry’s references to using cocaine, cannabis and magic mushrooms in his memoir, Spare, prompted a conservative think-tank to sue the Department for Homeland Security (DHS) to reveal the contents of his visa application. The Heritage Foundation claims the information is of ‘immense public interest’ as, they claim, it could show Harry ‘lied’ on his visa application about his past drug use or ‘answered truthfully’ and ‘received special treatment’. The Biden administration is fighting the case on the basis that visa applicants have a right to privacy. But the foundation has countered by insisting Harry undermined his right to privacy in the book and by ‘selling every aspect of his private life’.

[From The Daily Mail]

As Heritage’s targeted harassment of Harry stretches on and on – it’s been more than a year since they launched this hate campaign – I wish more American outlets would pick up on the story as a purely political one, rather than a royal-oddity. With Trump’s comments, it should be a story about Trump being fed talking points from British right-wingers like Nigel Farage. But anyway… Ambassador Hartley is telling everyone that a vote for Joe Biden is a vote for Prince Harry living peacefully and without harassment in Montecito.

“insisting Harry undermined his right to privacy in the book and selling every aspect of his private life”
by this reasoning wouldn’t anybody who wrote a book or memoir no longer have a right to privacy?? Chucky and others have written personal memoirs or does this not apply?

    • L4Frimaire says:

They’re using the same argument the Mail on Sunday used to justify printing Meghan’s letter. How is saying you don’t have right to privacy because you choose to mention some details of your personal life a valid argument?

    • Mary S says:

On their logic, if you tell someone you have cancer, you no longer have a claim to keep your medical records private. Totally negates the arguments that Kate, Charles, Fergie, etc have a right to privacy in their medical records. Eh?! They should be careful with this argument. It may lead to places they never intended to go.

Isn’t it weird that government officials or candidates are talking about one citizen like that? In USA, is the deportation of an individual controlled by the President? Are there not laws that ensures everyone is treated the same? Singling out one person is very scary. Why didn’t the ambassador say that they don’t comment on things like that? Imagine you are the person the government officials are discussing like that on record. That is just weird.

    • L4Frimaire says:

      So much for bring irrelevant.

    • ML says:

Yeah, it should be “We are not going to deport Harry” at all no matter who the president is. I don’t like that answer either.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

sevenblue, the answer was in response to Trump’s comment. That’s what she responded to. She can’t say what Trump would do if he got voted in again. I think you’re taking it where it doesn’t need to go. The fact that she laughed and gave an answer says a lot, too.

She probably wants to get people to stop calling the Embassy and asking about this. I can’t imagine how many calls they’ve gotten.

It’s good to have an administration that gives more thought to important things that impact the US. PH living here isn’t threatening anybody except extremist idiots who want to control his life. However much the haters want to deny it, he is a member of a royal family that represents an allied nation.

  4. Persephone says:

The real question is why is even up for debate? Prince Harry is generating money, he is not a financial (or other) strain on the US economy or its citizens. So why is anyone even talking about this?

    • WiththeAmerican says:

This. They had to comment because POS Trump put it out there, normally none of this would be up for discussion.

More nothing burgers from the conservatives harassing Prince Harry to appease his sick family.

    • Eurydice says:

Because, whether one loves or hates Harry, he is useful. Every time Harry’s name is mentioned, whether by the press, the RF, Trump, a member of the Biden administration, even by charities, it’s because Harry is of some use to their particular agenda – he draws eyes to their underlying goal. In the case of this article – it’s cute that the Bidens like Harry, but this was essentially a campaign message, just as Trump’s was. It’s like Harry is the Swiss Army knife in the PR toolkit – all purpose and he doesn’t even have to say a word.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Eurydice, and she responded to the question about Trump’s comment. I think it was a great answer: She laughed and then responded. She can’t say what Trump will do, but she can say what Biden will do.

I think this is hilarious. Now, let’s see what happens with the narrative.

  5. Em says:

British clowns and their clown readers thinking if he gets deported he’s coming back to the UK is the most hilarious

  6. JCallas says:

Trump is broke and desperate. He will do anything for money. Who knows how much some British right wingers have paid him to try to force Prince Harry to go back to Britain .

    • Eurydice says:

Lol, Trump doesn’t need anyone to pay him for being an ass, he’s happy to do it for free. And whatever British right-wingers can scrape together, it’s a drop in the bucket compared to what Trump needs. Deporting Harry doesn’t accomplish anything other than deporting Harry – there’s nothing in it for Trump. British right-wingers can’t vote and voters here don’t care about where Harry lives.

  7. Sunday says:

I wish the US ambassador hadn’t responded like this. This answer directly links Harry’s status in the US with a Biden presidency which only validates the Heritage Foundation’s tactics of turning Harry and Meghan into a polarizing political issue and turns Harry into even juicier red meat for the right.

IMHO a much more tactical response would’ve been “We don’t comment on individual visa applications” or “this is a distraction technique” or anything that immediately deflected an obvious bad faith question and turned it back on the GOP/HF instead of giving them an answer that validates the question.

A great example is the old Obama-McCain debate. When McCain tried the bigoted gotcha of questioning Obama’s faith, Obama responded that he was a Christian, not a Muslim. But that response only reinforced the bigotry behind the question (which Obama has acknowledged since). The right response to a setup like that is to reject the bigotry (being Muslim doesn’t make you a terrorist, in America we have the right to religious freedom, etc).

    • Rnot says:

So William is the prince for the conservatives and Harry is the prince for the liberals, globally? They’re going to make the alignment that glaring? The royal family is ok with this? The British government is ok with this? This seems like a significant constitutional problem.

    • bisynaptic says:

      🎯❤️

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Sunday & Rnot, you need to go back and read that paragraph again. The Ambassador answer the question regarding what Trump said. She laughed. Then said he wouldn’t be deported under Biden. (Because Trump said he would deport him.)

Don’t make this what it isn’t. Frankly, if the media wants to make Billy Idle the conservative and Harry the liberal–where’s the lie?

  8. PC says:

Dark Brandon just told all of them to F off. It ain’t happening. LOL!

  9. phlyfiremama says:

If they deported people for admitting to drug use….I mean, that is a very very LONG list. 😂😂😂 Most immigrants can’t even AFFORD the drugs the Heritage Foundation is talking about. In fact, let’s make drug testing mandatory for anyone who accuses someone ELSE of drug use. 😂

  10. Pinkosaurus says:

Can we deport the Heritage team for drug use, given how many of them were pill popping the entire time working in the White House for the rotting orange?

  11. Advisor2u says:

She should have not commented anyway. No government representative should discuss any aspects of any individual’s visa application or visa status with anybody publicly. It’s disturbing.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Advisor2u, she answered a question regarding what Trump said. She laughed and answered. I think she thought it was pretty ironic that anyone thinks a President has the time to make these decisions. Well, Trump probably made the decision when it came to Melania’s parents.

  12. Segway says:

I don’t understand why the govt is not bringing up all of Nile Gardner’s online hate against Harry and Meghan. It clearly shows a bias and should factor in as to why he and that foundation brought this on in the first place.
