Katherine Heigl wins over coworkers post-baby by being “tolerable”

It took a small, innocent baby to tame the wild beast known only as “Dame Heigl”. This is according to Betty Confidential’s sources, who claim that since Heigl adopted her beautiful little daughter Naleigh and brought her home from Sourth Korea, Dame Heigl has been almost professional and nice! While coworkers previously described Heigl as “unprofessional” or “diva” or “unfortunate” or “Jesus, shut up, bitch,” now Heigl is being described in glowing terms as “tolerable”. Chuckle. That one is still cracking me up. My God, her co-workers must hate her, if there’s this huge story about how Dame Heigl has changed so much and now, at long last, she’s “tolerable.”

What a difference a baby makes! That’s what stars of Grey’s Anatomy are saying about their co-worker Katherine Heigl. A source tells BettyConfidential that Katherine has become a changed woman since she and her husband, singer Josh Kelley, adopted their daughter, Naleigh, a special-needs child from South Korea last fall.

“She’s mellowed out since bringing home Naleigh,” says the source. “She’s a doting mom. She doesn’t like to be apart from her baby, so she brings her to the set as often as she can.” And co-stars are not complaining! “Katherine loves showing off Naleigh. And her co-stars get a kick out of her,” says the insider. “She’s such a good baby. She’s always smiling and hardly ever cries.”

As BettyConfidential previously reported, Katherine (who returns to TV screens tonight as Dr. Izzie Stevens) had been labeled a diva on the set. “She’s really trying hard to be pleasant and not offend anyone this year,” adds the source. “She’s by no means anyone’s best friend, but she’s tolerable and that’s the main thing. Everyone is more at ease with less tension on the set.”

When Katherine joined Grey’s Anatomy in 2005, she and her now ex co-star, TR Knight, became fast friends, but it seemed the pair courted drama. Katherine complained loudly and publicly about her long working hours and TR had a much-publicized feud with Isaiah Washington. Last season, when TR left the show, everyone thought Katherine would be easier to work with, but that wasn’t the case.

“She and TR hung out together on the set all the time. Once he was gone, everyone thought she’d be friendlier. But she started rattling the cages again, complaining about scripts.”

The cast was even relieved when she took time off last year to film her upcoming movie, Five Killers, with Ashton Kutcher. And, then took another five weeks off this season to film the romantic comedy Life As We Know It. But, now it seems that motherhood has made Katherine more laid-back and the insider says it’s interested to see the changes in everyone on set as they gather around her and her well-behaved baby.

Could it be that Katherine now has more in common with her co-stars? Ellen Pompeo had a baby last year and Chyler Leigh already brings her daughter, Anniston, to the set, and Eric Dane and his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, are expecting their first child together, a girl, later this year.

The source adds that even directors and producers have been commenting on how easygoing Katherine has been lately. But no one is analyzing it too much; they’re just happy that the drama is now contained to what’s going on in front of the cameras!

[From Betty Confidential]

I think it’s perfectly possible and probable that Katherine is toning it down, maturing, and learning how to be more professional and classy. Is it because she’s a mom now? Could be. It could also be that she finally got into her head that her big diva mouth was destroying her career. You know what I’ve noticed, though? Since adopting Naleigh, Katherine has barely talked to the media one way or the other, letting her charity do most of the talking on her behalf. She’s also been MIA for any kind of promotional duties for Grey’s Anatomy. Interesting… could it be that there’s another Dame Heigl moment coming, just waiting until she gets in front of a journalist?

    Naleigh looks so adorable.

  2. bite me says:

    aaaw what a cutie pie

  3. GatsbyGal says:

Haha…yeah, I kinda figured being a mom wouldn’t make her any better.

  4. Mairead says:

She’s a looper, but Izzie still remains my favourite character on Grey’s. That wee kid certainly can work the camera though 😉

  5. lucy2 says:

    Sweet baby!
Maybe becoming a mom, especially to a special needs child, put things in perspective for her.

  6. Sumodo says:

No Izzy, no show. At least for me. BTW, what is ailing Naleigh?

  7. pickelhaube says:

This b*tch just adopted that child for the good publicity it would bring her, because we all know she’s a Grade-A Superc*nt. I bet she leaves it with nannies and only pays attention to it for the cameras when she trots it out for some more soft-focus, adoring gaze, good PR photo ops. I mean, I’m sure the child’s situation is financially better than it was before, but you know this b*tch doesn’t care about the child itself, she just wants all the praise and applause that other celebs (we all know who!) get for adopting kids, which IMO is disgusting. But then again Heigl has always disgusted me and come off as a horrendous, nasty, greedy, spiteful little b*tch, so I can’t say any of this comes as a shock.

Also, the baby IS adorable, but “Naleigh” is such a stupid, trashy, trendy name. It sounds like the noise you make when you’re trying to hack up a big wet loogie….I miss classy, more normal (or at least not horrendously ugly) names 🙁

  8. Sumodo says:

Would her name be pronounced: Nah-LEE? That sounds more Chinese and less Irish.

  9. TaylorB says:

    Pickle,

Well aren’t you just a treat.

  10. lauram says:

Wow pickelhaube! Did you forget to take your meds?

  11. skibunny says:

She’s the reason I stopped watching this program…..didn’t like her character or her acting.

  12. princess pea says:

Man, pickle, I hope what’s been eating at you the past few days clears up soon.

I’m going with the Kaiser theory that she became more aware of her bad rep and what that could mean in a long term. That’s not to say that she’s not still a snotty bitch, but she’s learning to be less in-your-face about it. That’s a good thing for everyone, really.

  13. atticus says:

Pickle, please get a grip. Between this and your diatribe against Beyonce, you’re way out of line. Per the Scott Baio post mentioning that people feel safe saying horrible, nasty things about other PEOPLE in the anonymity of the Internet, you are Exhibit A.

I seriously hope you have much better social skills when in face-to-face situations.

  14. stinabelle says:

So I’ve been watching Roswell lately, and a very young Katherine Heigl starred on that show, which had led me to wondering if she’s always been a diva or if Grey’s made her that way.

  15. hatsumomo says:

well maybe pickelhaube is just having a bad day. I get that way too.

  16. Lem says:

why is she making the same face as Wyclif?
-glad she seems to be enjoying her baby.

*runs up & down the CB halls looking for
“diatribe against Beyonce”, I love “diatribe(s) against Beyonce” can’t find it! where is it?

  17. ! says:

Jesus Pickle what flew up your butt and died. I’m not fond of Heigl, myself, but her costars are saying she brings the baby to the set all the time. That hardly sounds like ditching the kid with a nanny.

  18. lucy2 says:

Yeesh. I’m no fan of Heigl’s anymore, but even I am aware now that she’s taken time off from the show and movies to be with the baby, and that she has an adopted sister, which was a big part of her choice to adopt this child.

Picklehaube, I am not attacking you. I understand we all have bad days and perhaps you’re just letting it all out -and of course you have every right to. I’m not asking you to not express your opinions, I’m just asking to keep it within the boundaries of common sense courtesy. As in, don’t say anything here that you wouldn’t say if we were all standing around together in a room.

FWIW, I generally agree with the gist of what you said…I’m not particularly a fan of either Beyonce or Katherine Heigl.

    Peace and love to all

  20. juiceinla says:

Wonder if she smokes around that baby. Poor kid, a diva for a mom and health issues from second hand smoke.

  21. Sigh. says:

This story’s “home page pic” sitting on top of Wyclef’s looks like they’re singing a duet for “Hands Across America (2 different backdrops).”

And isn’t the baby’s name a blend of the actress’ mother’s and adpoted sister’s names?

  22. pickelhaube says:

OK then, y’all have a great day, I will not post here any more and upset everyone’s delicate sensibilities. Best to all of you 🙂

  23. Lem says:

    @ atticus: thank you

@ pickle, I love’d the Beyonce rant!!! I too, feel the same way. Guess that’s how I missed the post in the first place, I automatically overlook most entries w/ Beyonce, DoucheMayer, Twit&Twat (who we are now covering again after a blessed ban) Avoiding that JLO post (tries too hard, I don’t even need to read the story). Somedays it’s easier to overlook the posts then to let some celeb gossip run afoul with your mood. It’s just gossip after all, it’s supposed to be fun!

  24. TaylorB says:

    Pickle,

Easy there buck. We all get guff about our comments from time to time here, no big deal and certainly not a reason to leave. We still luv ya man!

  25. Lizzard says:

I like Heigl and have since she was in one of my favorite movies: My Father the Hero.

@ pickle- She adopted from Korea not for attention or for the same reasons Angelina or Madonna have but the fact that Heigl’s sister was adopted from Korea and she has always wanted to do the same thing. Which I think is actually a sweet gesture.

  26. Sumodo1 says:

I think Heigl’s just feisty and mean to writers, that’s all.

  27. Sumodo says:

I’m with Taylor B. Pickel is fine.

  28. Sumodo says:

    Whew! Got my avatar back!

  29. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

I think the baby’s name is Nancy Leigh– after her mother and sister. Naleigh’s just a nickname.

  30. Annie says:

Her baby for publicity purposes to cover for the fact that she and TR got Isaiah Washington fired so that they could get extra screentime.

How cruel to take a special needs baby to work with her, someone is desperate for screentime before her new movie comes out

  31. GatsbyGal says:

I…must admit I kinda agree with Pickel.

  32. Reality Check says:

@pickelhaube – Naleigh is a nickname. The baby’s full name is Nancy Leigh. Is that “classy” and “more normal” enough for ickle-pickel’s standards?

  33. Diyar says:

Some people (like “Pickelhaube”) say Katherine adopted her baby for the good publicity and she only pays attention to baby for the cameras (good PR photo ops…) I think haters hope and wish this. But Katherine doesn’t do this.

Since adopting the baby, we have barely seen Katherine. What photo ops are you people talking? How many photos did you see Katie with her baby? She has been MIA for months. She spends her time with her baby away from paparazzi. She has been even away from LA.

I’m sure both Katie and her adorable Naleigh very happy : )
