2024 Critics Choice Awards nominations: a lot of love for ‘Conclave’ & ‘The Brutalist’

The Critics Choice Awards will air one week after the Golden Globes. So, the Globes are on Sunday, January 5th, and then the Critics Choice are on January 12th. Chelsea Handler is hosting the Critics Choice Awards and that should ensure that the show sucks ass. I also hope that Angelina Jolie, who just picked up another nomination for Maria, just skips this one because of Handler. That’s some old-school gossip, but Handler spent years saying absolutely vile sh-t about Angelina and her children. Here are the Critics Choice nominations for film:

I said this in the Globes nomination post, but I’m SO pleased that Yura Borisov is getting nominations. He’s an acclaimed Russian actor who is virtually unknown to American audiences, and he was amazing in Anora (as was Mikey Madison). I’m also curious about The Brutalist, which has only been seen by the critics at this point – the critics have been gushing about it for months and calling it a sleeper Oscar contender, not just for Best Picture, but for Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce. Anyway, I think the shortlists for the lead acting categories are pretty stable right now (minus Nicole Kidman’s Babygirl snub here), but the supporting categories might end up being kind of chaotic in the next few months.

I disagree that Jolie should skip bc of handler. She should show up looking stunning and surrounded by people who have her back. Anyways the only thing I’ve seen is conclave which I fully enjoyed. At some point, I’ll see wicked.

    • Grant says:

Personally, I LOVED Wicked. I was expecting shite but I was completely blown away. Cynthia and Ariana were dynamite.

If you like musicals, it’s a must-see. It’s up there with Chicago IMO.

  2. Lucía says:

    Aaaand no Saoirse. Again.

I don’t care how good any Russian actor (or musician or athlete or their project) is. Unless they are vocally against the war on Ukraine, I’m not interested. Even if I have to force myself to look away. No one gets to the top in Russia without absolutely kowtowing to Putin and the regime. In fact, to get to the tip-top, you have to actively advocate for Putin. It’s tough, but – tough.
