Was anyone else surprised by Demi Moore’s Golden Globe win? She won the Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for The Substance. First of all, The Substance isn’t a comedy or a musical. Second of all, The Substance is awful. Once I saw it, I could not believe that it was getting so much awards-season attention. While Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley do the best they can with the material, the film takes an interesting concept and then drives it off a f–king cliff for the last hour.
All of which to say, I was surprised that Demi won a Globe. She really gave a barn-burner speech though, and it’s remarkable to think that in Demi’s long and well-documented career, this is the first time she’s ever picked up a major award. While she was prepared for the moment with a big speech, I was meh on her style. She wore a champagne-colored Armani. It wasn’t flattering?
Margaret Qualley, Demi’s “other half,” wore Chanel to the Globes. I like this, and she’s always in Chanel. This is actually one of the better Chanel looks in recent years, right?
Tilda Swinton also wore Chanel – very fancy.

I loved the concept of The Substance and the first half of the movie, but I thought the ending cheapened the depth of the concept. Even so, Demi’s and Margaret’s acting and especially Demi’s vulnerability were amazing so I am glad to see her pick up this award.
As for the dresses, I like the structure and diamond piece of Demi’s dress but agree that a different color would be nice on her.
After reading about The Substance on Wikipedia and seeing I can watch it on Prime for free if I sign up to trial some other streaming service, I definitely think it’s worth a watch. Completely unfamiliar with body-horror genre, but that seems to be what’s upsetting everybody. Too bad the film couldn’t have been finished with the wonderful Ray Liotta, but Dennis Quaid will likely bring enough of his innate vapidness to fill in. I’m intrigued enough by Coralie Fargeat to watch her other work.
I love Demi Moore’s structural dress. It is gorgeous and she looks fabulous in that metallic beige-gold-pewter color. Whatever possessed Margaret Qualley’s dresser to add that black belt below the empire waist embellished with a sequin band should be exorcised — weird.
Congratulations to Demi! I loved her speech. I love that she and Pamela Anderson are getting recognition for the acting this award season and I hope they continue to get roles in movies. I hope these successes give other +40, 50, 60, 70 actresses more opportunities.
I loved Demii’s dress. I thought she looked amazing. And, on the flip side, I thought Margaret’s Chanel dress was awful. It looks like a little girl’s dress. Far too twee.
Agree on all counts. Demi looked elegant and beautiful, and Margaret looked like a little girl dressed up to go to the theater for the first time. Awful.
I was annoyed that Cynthia Erivo didn’t win in the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy category. I was so miffed that I couldn’t really pay attention to Demi’s acceptance speech.
Thrilled for Demi Moore. She got up there and bravely spoke her own story. I loved it and I really hope both her and Pam Anderson get better and more offerings.
The Substance was effed up!! Not at all what I went to the theater to see. I feel like it could have been so much more had it taken a different direction.
I was happy to see Demi win because I did think she played the hell out of that role. Her dress looks great but I agree with whoever said she could lose some length from her hair. It’s too long!
I wonder if Demi’s dress is a nod to her character in The Substance (with the “zipper-like” line)? Maybe I’m reading too much into it. One evening it was my turn to choose what to watch and I picked this movie. Lots of chatter about it but I didn’t know what it was about really. OMG 😱
Mr. Smith has revoked my movie selection privileges until he recovers from watching it.
I loved the Substance. It was so bizarre and the director and the writer Coralie Fargeat didn’t even try to make it believable, which made me love it more. I don’t remember watching body horror movie before, so that was certainly an experience for me. It honestly made me care more about how I think about my own body. The way it kept going, like the writer saying “and one more thing”, gives you uncomfortable giggles. Maybe, that is why it was categorized as Comedy 😭😭
I hated The Substance. It was overcooked cartoonish, and the concept of body horror turned into ridiculousness by the end. I do not understand how anyone can nominate it for anything. Demi was good, not great. But it was a cartoon. I like her and admire her tenacity, but her speech disappointed me because, at her age, she still thinks the universe is looking after her. Right.
I like Demi’s dress more and more as I look at it. MQ needs to evolve past “ingenue” in her styling. Tilda looks iconic bc she is!
Demi is a very intelligent woman and skilled actor. Due to her personal struggles and the patriarchy she’s been dismissed and ridiculed but I think she’s incredible…always on the leading edge, pushing people to see what is there but we gloss over in our culture. I’m really happy that she’s found herself after Ashton and is giving us her gifts.

Something about the way Margaret Qualley is standing – makes it look like she’s sticking her stomach out – maybe it’s the bow placement?

Demi Moore was also great as ann woodward in miniseries Capote versus the swans
She’s also apparently great in Landman. She’s really made a comeback.
I really wish that “gaunt” wasn’t 95% of some people’s outfits.
Demi needs to lose about a foot of hair (extensions?). It just looks scraggly. Don’t like any of the outfits.

Totally agree, very twee, very frilly, very ugly!

I agree on both too.
Tilda looks amazing as always.
