Trailer for Kirstie Alley’s “Big Life” reality show

Kirstie Alley’s new reality show “Kirstie Alley’s Big Life,” will premiere on A&E on March 21. A&E has released a trailer, above, and frankly it doesn’t look bad. Kirstie seems wacky as hell and a little unhinged, but in a fun way. As long as producers keep Kirstie from talking about the dangers of psychiatry (as Scientologist Kirstie often does on her Twitter account) she should be fine.

In the trailer, Kirstie vows that she’s going to lose weight, but we’ve heard this one from her many, many times. Sure she’s big and I don’t think we should make fun of her for that. What we should make fun of are the many public proclamations she’s made -and broken- that she’s going to lose weight. Just don’t talk about it until it’s a done deal.

After seeing the people around Kirstie I’m thinking “how many of them are Scientologists?” and “are they going to sneak Scientolo-speak and Scientology concepts into this show?” I also get the impression at first that Kirstie is funny and seems to have a good attitude. There’s something really sad about her, though, and it’s like she makes fun of herself but feels like total crap. Maybe she’ll get some mileage and some motivation out of this show. Or maybe people will largely ignore her as they’ve done in the past. She can only play out this yo-yo dieting concept for so long.

It’s interesting. Scientologists are supposed to have all of this “control” over their own life and destiny, and yet most seem to be terribly unhappy people.

  2. Sumodo1 says:

There’s a lot wrong with this chick, and thank God for her kids. I don’t know if I’ll watch. Train wreck TV. Must. Stay. Away.

  3. Dorothy says:

    I will watch!

Plus she is fat but she isn’t OMG HOLY CRAP FAT. Give the bitch a break!

  4. Maddie says:

Not to nick pick but she gained more than 75 lbs, and for her to say other wise is a lie.

Maybe if she honest with herself she will be able to lose the weight and keep it off this time.

  5. Dorothy says:

Plus I wonder if her super cute ex hubby will show his face??

  6. Kaye says:

I don’t quite know what to make of this. On the one hand it seems a little pathetic, but on the other, I kind of admire how she keeps trying to shed the victim role and turn this into something she has control of. Maybe she won’t lose weight, but she’s not going to let the tabloids define her. She’s not going to hide. People love weight loss stories so I think this show is going to be successful.

  7. fluffyrabbit says:

Love her – fat or not. She’s always seemed real. I hope her show is successful.

I think she’s doing this round of weight loss publically so she truly has to keep herself accountable.

  8. CB Rawks says:

I really liked her show Fat Actress. It was funny in a self deprecating way, and largely focused on how difficult she made the lives of her two personal assistants. It was one of those largely unscripted ones too, so the actors did a lot of improv, which I like.

  9. snapdragon says:

her voice makes me want to pull my ears off.

  10. Cinderella says:

Her weight has always been such a struggle forever it seems. I hope she can really do it this time. I’ve always thought she is incredibly pretty and zany. She doesn’t have to be stick thin as in her “Cheers” days, but just get down to a healthy weight.

  11. annie says:

    sad

  12. Blitz says:

What I wonder is how she can do this without making Jenny Craig (was that the one?) look bad. And I too wonder how many people on the show are Scientologists.

Next time Kirsty goes on about the wonders of Scientology regarding health and “ethics” (a word they amusingly toss around), ask her what she’s doing to bring Wally Hanks to justice. There’s an audio on youtube and info about him if you Google his name.

  13. Really? says:

Kirstie looks like Jabba the Hutt in a bad weave. She claims she gained 75 lbs since her ‘skinny’ days??? Please, looks more like 175 lbs.
She could definitely benefit from a good psychiatrist, a proper scale, and a secure muzzle.
It would be pure torture to watch this mess.

  14. margo says:

    EEESH!

well scientologists are not supposed to be “connected” to any one who is not in their cult-Scientologists think they are above ALL others- they call us “wogs” they say Christ never existed and all religiongs have been implanted in our heads by aliens-yea crazy as hell!

read this-and understand why people are protesting this group hiding behind religion!

  15. AlaskaJoey says:

I hope this will be as fun as “The Two Coreys” was. I’ll definitely tune in. However, I think she will fail if she doesn’t change her mindset. She will never be skinny. She should just focus on being healthy.

  16. clare says:

Me, me, me… doesn’t the co$ celebrity center satisfy her need for attention? She’s like a spoilt child.

  17. NicoleB says:

Her daughter is so pretty…she looks like Kirstie back in the day

  18. Lynn says:

I think, as crazy as she is. she is really kind and funny!
I will watch because I can relate. I have a little weight to lose and I think it will be entertaining to see someone comically going through the ups and downs of the process!

  19. Ggirl says:

I have always liked Kirstie Alley. In the movie “Deconstructing Harry” with Woody Allen there is a hilarious scene where she confronts her cheating husband. It is classic Kirstie with her holding nothing back. Personally, I am rooting for her to lose the weight. I remember reading a few years ago that she started following Scientology to assist her with overcoming her addiction to cocaine. It seems she may have replaced one addiction for another; food for cocaine. Addiction is addiction. I am definitely NOT a fan of Scientology and was disappointed when I first heard years ago that she was a follower. But, I still find her funny and may watch an episode. I agree that it looks like she has gained more than 75 lbs though. Why does she even have to acknowledge an exact weight? Just acknowledge the need to lose a few and get on with it. Let her trainers or doctors know her weight and leave at that.

  20. Babalon says:

She didn’t say that she’s only 75lbs overweight…she said that she gained 75lbs, lost it, re-gained it and that that was the beginning of her obesity.

  21. fizXgirl314 says:

It doesn’t matter what religion you are… you could be a monk isolated your entire life in a buddhist colony and you’d still have issues to contend with… nobody is immune…

  22. Tia C says:

Oh, this is truly pathetic. I should give her props for continuing to try to lose the weight, but I just don’t see it ever happening. I know that’s mean, I like to support my sisters in the struggle, but come ON! She’s been trying to lose this weight forEVER. If it ain’t happened yet, it ain’t gonna! Like someone else on here said, she should just work on being healthy, not focus on the weight so much. Obviously that approach isn’t working for her.

“Fat Actress” sucked. She was OK in it, but the actors playing her sycophantic assistants were horrible. Their delivery was too slow, their timing was WAY off, it just sucked. I wanted to like it, but it wasn’t to be. I’m not optimistic about this show, either.

  23. Kat says:

We have a tendancy to think that because someone “overcomes” a problem that the problem goes away forever. I believe that like drugs, weight problems can be something people sturggle with all their lives. Some people relapse but it doesn’t mean they just “want to be fat” we are talking about a life long struggle here some people succeed now fail later, some fail now, succeed later. I wish Kirstie the best of luck in her fat wars and her show.

  24. paranel says:

She has a very likable personality. I for one don’t care if she is fat or skinny. Why should her weight bother me? But if she wants to be skinny, then more power to her.

Thank you for clearing that one up for us!! 🙂 LOL

  26. Ruffian9 says:

I think she’s repulsive. Nothing to do with her looks or weight.

  27. stinabelle says:

Wait, wait, wait. Kirstie Alley is FIFTY NINE YEARS OLD? WHAT.

  28. city says:

    Get Gastric By-pass surgery Kirstie!

  29. snowball says:

She was born in ’51, so yeah, 59. I can’t believe it either. She’s almost my mom’s age.

  30. Kelly says:

    Oh Kirsty, you so krazy!
I love the eternal inverse relationship between the claims of every cult/religion/organized whackness to bedazzled exclusivity, and the sad, sad reality limned in the faces of their actual, fleshly adherents.
Why aren’t all these whackness-devotees (whackotees?) (Tom Cruise, the Pope, Madonna etc) any more demonstrably special or happy or insightful than a random sample of the general nonwhack population? I know it makes ME wonder. It’s almost like the shit they’re shovelling doesn’t really work or make sense.

  31. fizXgirl314 says:

wow… 59?!?!?!? I’m in awe as well.. she actually looks pretty good…

i have to admit I was kind of repulsed at her “booty call” comment… aren’t her kids going to hear that? What child wants to know their 59 year old mother still does booty calls? GROSS!

And we see lots of “in between” shows… give me a break, they’re all over the place… she’s not the first person to document her weight loss struggle… it’s a bit boring at this point…

I don’t wish ill upon her though… weight struggles can be difficult… good luck to her… But she sounds like a bit of a dunce in that video…

and who sits around discussing how embarrassing their weight is with their kids? seriously… no kid really sees their parent in that light… WHO GIVES A SHIT… my mother is on the plump side and I don’t EVER FOR ONE SECOND feel embarrassed in any way… quite frankly, nobody does…

    She sounds annoying… :/

  32. knotstu says:

    So …. It IS?
    about her butt?

  33. guesty says:

hilarious. loved fat actress…can’t wait for this mess.

  34. daisy says:

damn i love her . i do. dont ask.

  35. Thia says:

230 lbs in January when she weighed in for this round? Are you KIDDING ME?!?!?!?

    If she’s 5’7″ she’s more around 280.

I’m 5’8″ and my all-time high in 2001 was 274 and I was about as large as Kirstie is (seeing the new Big Life show last nite).

Kirstie, this is for you: ADMIT how MUCH YOU WEIGH! As long as you don’t, you can’t look it in the “face” for what it is.

    I weighed 112 when I was 19 (1971) and wore a size 4 pant and size 6 top.

I’m down to 209.5 as of this morning, and I’m in a size 14 bottom and size 16 top (regular lady sizes, not “W”).

You CAN do it – just don’t try to do it so fast. I know it’s for TV, and you need a storyline, but it’s taken me eight years to lose (and keep losing) the 64.5 lbs. I’ve shed so far… at least I’m continually going in the right direction.

I work a 50-hour week as a technology professional, am single, without children.

I don’t have the luxury of focusing on my weight loss all day, all the time – like you do.

Use this advantage you have to do it right.

If you don’t, and don’t change your lifestyle to accommodate keeping it off, you’ll gain it right back – AGAIN.

    There is no quick fix!

    Best,
    Thia
