The Resolute Desk has been used as one of the go-to official Oval Office desks of the president of the United States since John F. Kennedy. The story goes that the Resolute Desk was tucked away in some White House storage space for years and Jackie Kennedy rediscovered it and its history – the desk was a gift from Queen Victoria to President Hayes in the 19th century. It’s one of the most famous desks in the world and nearly every president since Jimmy Carter has used it in the Oval Office. Well, the Resolute Desk has left the Oval Office following last week’s bonkers press conference in which Elon Musk’s son X told Donald Trump to shut his mouth. It seems that X Musk wiped some of his boogers on the desk.
President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that the Resolute Desk has been temporarily removed from the Oval Office to be “refinished,” a touch-up that occurred just days after Elon Musk’s son seemingly picked his nose and wiped it on the historic piece of furniture.
“A President, after election, gets a choice of 1 in 7 desks,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Wednesday. “This desk, the ‘C&O,’ which is also very well-known and was used by President George H.W. Bush and others, has been temporarily installed in the White House while the Resolute Desk is being lightly refinished—a very important job. This is a beautiful, but temporary replacement!”
The C&O desk was originally made for the owners of Chesapeake & Ohio Railway in 1920, but was later gifted to the White House as a donation. While George H.W. Bush used it in the Oval Office, other former presidents like Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and Ronald Reagan used it in the West Wing Study.
The Resolute Desk, however, is an iconic mainstay of the Oval Office, having recently been used by former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, as well as by Trump in his first term. The desk is a seminal part of the Oval Office’s iconography—and was known for being a young John F. Kennedy Jr.’s favorite hiding spot.
During a press conference on all things DOGE last week, Musk’s son X Æ A-12 spun social media into a frenzy after being caught picking his nose and wiping it on the Resolute Desk.
“This is X, and he’s a great guy,” the president said during the conference on Feb.11. “High IQ…high-IQ individual.”
I doubt the kid’s boogers were the only things wiped on that desk. My guess is that Apartheid Clyde and Don Jr. have been throwing coke-and-ketamine parties in there and all manner of bodily fluid has been on and around that desk. It pretty much sums up what’s happening to the country too – Musk & co are wiping their boogers on the Constitution and everything else.
Speaking of little X, apparently Grimes was trying to get in touch with Elon via Twitter, something about X’s medical condition. Instead of responding to her, Elon shadow-banned her and probably deleted her tweets.

We can laugh at them, but in the mean time we’re seeing 1933 Germany unfold in real time. On 2/18, Trump issued his Enabling Act: Executive Order “Ensuring Accountability for all Agencies”, declaring the president has authority over all agencies and commissions – even though they were created by Congress and supposed to be independent. This includes the Federal Elections Commission – which enforces campaign finance regulations and oversees elections. Now he’s planning to take over the US Postal Service – which we depend on for our mail in ballots (and so much more). Trump did say our last election was the last one we’d ever need. Call your representatives and march in the streets!
Remember when the worst thing that happened in the Oval Office was when the president wore a tan suit? Good times!

I’m pretty sure Grimes knew that the minute she tweeted Elon to grab his attention, she was going to leave a Xitter trail. What I’m not certain about is which of their kids has the medical issue: reading her message, I thought it might be one of the two Leon’s never seen with. I don’t see him as the kind of guy to hang around a child who needs medical care.
See, I immediately thought X because he’s clearly Elon’s favorite and I’m pretty sure he is preventing Grimes from seeing him. I could also see how Musk would snatch him away if he does have health problems. There are pictures of him floating around the Internet of him and his first 5 kids he shares with Justine Wilson. I remember seeing pics of them with him when he was dating Amber Heard. They were all minors then. I think they are all legal adults now or almost legal adults. I wouldn’t be surprised if his older kids wrote him off, especially after he treated their trans sister and nothing to do with him.
I believe the other two kids he had with Grimes were born via surrogate but she carried X herself. He mostly seems to hang out with X, for whatever reason he seems to have picked this one as his successor. But I’ve seen pictures of him with the twins he has with that employee of his, not sure if that’s his official partner nowadays? It’s all very confusing.

My thought on his obsession with destroying the Kennedy legacy is that for a few generations, the Kennedy’s were considered “American Royalty” — Mango wants that legacy for himself. It’s always been about branding his name everywhere.
I am waiting for the announcement that he has renamed the Kennedy Center “The Trump Center”.

In the UK our PM Liz Truss only lasted 40+ days because she trashed the economy and lost the confidence of 1922 Committee. Are you stuck with Trump for four years regardless of the harm he is causing internationally?

Congress is completely broken and has proven that they cannot function as originally intended. They have been completely neutered and no longer hold the purse strings nor are they fulfilling their role as a set of checks and balances. Additionally, Trump effectively stacked the Fed courts with RW extremist appointees. The Supreme Court is completely politicized and fully on-board with the Project 2025 agenda.
Our entire political system was designed to provoke a president to gain consensus for his/her policies but Trump is simply taking a sledgehammer to it– he’s not passing anything through the traditional Congressional channel, effectively stripping Congress of any power. Our forefathers thought they’d prepared us for everything but never could they imagine a convicted felon, a mob boss, a veritable fucking thug who has no respect for norms, precedence, or basic democracy in the Oval. Hell, he doesn’t even respect the Constitution.
TL;DR—There’s nothing left to stop him. The separation of powers is gone and Trump is governing like a King accountable to no one.
Congress can technically stop him – or at least try. At this point if he was impeached and convicted and removed from office I don’t think he’d go (and I know that’s never going to happen anyway.) The Rs can do things like not confirm his nominees, pass a budget that goes against what he says, pass laws that overturn his EOs, etc.
It might not stop him but it would slow down some of this nonsense.

Peter Thiel, friend of musk and a member of the PayPal Mafia, is a huge Vance backer. He’s the one who bought him his senate seat. If these broligarchs think trump has outlived his usefulness and Vance is a better bet to control then they can, and would, definitely do something.

We are very worried about Trump here in UK to the extent that on Sunday a political commentator expressed the fear that he could remain President forever. It has been an exhausting month but him continuing like this forever is unbearable to contemplate!
I think one of the horrible things about this is that we just don’t know how this will play out — or what we’d be left with even if Trump were to resign “for health reasons” or be impeached.
If we had a Congress capable of putting the well-being of the country first, Congress could impeach him, and possibly push for a medical assessment. While jail would be unlikely, allowing him to resign would be the quickest way of resolving this short term. I think our best chance for this will come as Musk’s chopping at our limited social safety nets start to impact Republican voters — who then complain to their Congressional representatives, who then realize that their seats are in danger thanks to the actions of Trump and Musk.
We would then be left with Vance — who seems to be quite mean-spirited and beholden to his mentors, but at least he does not seem to have dementia. Would he get rid of Musk/ Rasputin? Would he have his own slate of nominees for the Cabinet? Would his policies veer from Trump’s? I’m not clear that we know.
I am clear that it’s a lot harder to fix things than it is to break them. I’m also clear that our long-standing Allies might never trust us again— especially with intelligence.
I personally comfort myself with the visuals. Trump does not look like someone in the best of health. And Vance does not seem to have a warm relationship with Musk. So I’m sure that things will change — although I’m not at all sure what those changes might look like, or how long such shifts might take to implement.

Well, that’s terrifying. I knew that Vance was beholden to Thiel — who I don’t know much about, but I didn’t know that Thiel was close to Musk. I’m flinching just typing this. I just learned today that Musk’s private security has been deputized by the US Marshals. That’s very unusual, and I’m not clear who they’ll answer to — other than Musk.
Somebody check the bathrooms at his properties, because he has a documented history of stealing property from We The People.
