Tori Spelling doesn’t drink water and is afraid of people poisoning her drinks

Things have been relatively quiet in Tori Spelling-land since she got voted off of Dancing with the Stars last fall. She’s still doing her podcast, though, and as such, she’s still saying the darndest things. On this week’s episode, Tori talked about how much she hates drinking water. She actually hates it so much that she has an “aversion” to it. Part of this stems from her mom tricking her to take meds via liquids when she was a kid, and part of it is anxiety that someone is trying to poison her in general. Whatever it is, Tori is adamant about not drinking water.

Tori Spelling says “I hate water” and goes to great lengths to avoid drinking it, opting for coconut water or soda instead.

“I don’t drink water. And when I say I don’t drink water, I don’t drink water,” Spelling, 51, said on the March 11 episode of her podcast MisSPELLING. “How I’m still living, no one knows. I’m like a cacti. Just water me once in a while, and I somehow survive. But I have an aversion to it.”

She shared that she also struggles with thinking her drinks are poisoned, explaining that when ex Dean McDermott recently handed her a ginger ale, she thought he put something in it.

“I’m Aaron Spelling’s daughter, hello,” she said, referencing her late father, who produced successful soaps like Dynasty, Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place — or as she called him, “The creator of drama-rama storytelling.”

She said McDermott told her, “ ‘You’re the mother of my children. Why would I want to poison you?’ And I was like, ‘Listen. It’s not personal. I think this about everybody.’ ”

The 90210 alum said that when her mother, Candy, would give her medication as a child, she’d have to mash it up with Coke syrup, and “I would say, ‘What’d you put in here? Like, what are you giving me?’ And she would say the same thing: ‘What, you think I’m trying to poison you?’ ”

“This goes back to childhood,” Spelling continued. “This crazy, irrational fear of handed over liquids from other people. I don’t drink water. I don’t call it a fear of water. I just like to say I hate water. I have an allergy to water.”

The mom of five — she shares Liam Aaron, 17, Stella Doreen, 16, Hattie Margaret, 13, Finn Davey, 12, and Beau Dean, 8 with McDermott — said that she forced herself to drink water when she was pregnant “because you have to hydrate the baby growing in you. But in my mind, I was like, ‘I’m drinking for them, not myself.’ ”

She shared that she will drink ginger ale (when things are “stressful”) or Diet Dr. Pepper (when “I’m thriving”) but said. “I’m trying this new thing since I don’t like water. I’m like, okay, I actually enjoy the taste of coconut water.”

“I can guzzle, like, a glass of wine in, like, two seconds. No problem,” Spelling quipped. “But I take a few sips of water and swallow gently, and all of a sudden, I’m like, ‘I wanna puke.’ ”

[From People]

Woah boy. As always, there is so much to unpack here. It’s not the water thing. I’m a big water drinker, but there are plenty of people who don’t like the taste of plain water. My own husband prefers a little flavor to his water. That’s why those little flavored MiO water enhancers and flavored sparkling waters are so popular. Someone should seriously tell her that there are options to make water taste more palatable. Plus, it’s good for you. It helps keep your organs running smoothly and helps keep your skin from looking dried out.

Anyway, what’s noticeable here is Tori’s whole fear that someone is going to poison her drink. Dean is a lot of things, but he strikes me as someone who is way too lazy to poison anyone’s drink. I’m also not saying “poor little rich girl,” but Tori clearly has a lot of unresolved issues from her childhood that she really needs to address and work through. Having those types of fears is no way to live.

Not to give her ideas, but someone could poison her coconut water and soda, too. The specifity of water does seem to be a childhood issue. I had a colleague who had an aversion to the color white and never ate white food or drank white liquids. I suggested that maybe she had a bad experience with nursing or bottle feeding as a baby. Who knows? Humans are weird. Tory is weird.

    • somebody says:

Aversion to foods of a certain color is not that uncommon, especially with people on the autistic spectrum.

    • Friendly Crow says:

So her mom used to give her medicine in soda but she still drink soda and not water.

She needs so so so much therapy.

  2. Eurydice says:

I don’t know. Every so often she pops up with something – “I like to hang upside down from one leg and play Danny Boy on the bagpipes.” And I’m like, “ok, sure, makes perfect sense.”

    • ChickieBaby says:

Haha. If she did this on one of her goofy, train-wreck reality shows, I might watch.

  3. Lady Digby says:

Millie Bobbie Brown would be perfect as Tori if they ever made a film about the Spellings!

  4. Okay so she doesn’t drink water and it makes her puke and thinks people will poison her because hello she is Aaron Spellings daughter? However she isn’t afraid of pumping her face full of fillers and botox? Just look at Brandy Granville and what is happening to her face because of infection from all the crap she put into her face. But ok Tori water is bad.

    • Friendly Crow says:

Ong we need a story on that!!! What is happening to her face?

      • She has some kind of infection and she has had all fillers removed from her face and she looks really bad but they can’t pinpoint exactly what the infection is to help. Google her and you will see.

    • Josephine says:

I tihnk the comment about being Aaron Spelling’s daughter had more to do with the fact that her dad created soap-opera like shows where people targeted other people in weird ways, where a poisoning via water would fit right in.

I usually love a Tori Spelling post (hibachi grill anyone?) but this one actually made me sad for her.

I add cucumber to my water and it tastes great. Or sometimes raspberries. I don’t like drinking water either but just starting my day with a room temperature water before I eat or drink anything or brush my teeth has been a game changer. My rule is I can’t have my coffee until that water is gone. It’s helped my skin tremendously.

  6. Amy Bee says:

Tori has a lot of issues.

  7. Alicky says:

Still the proud owner of the worst boob job in Hollywood.

    • Minnieder says:

That picture of her in the red dress-I zoomed in and still can’t understand what is happening there!

      • QuiteContrary says:

        I can’t understand it either! It’s … unpleasant.

I’d avoid decolletage if I were her.

  8. FancyPants says:

Hmmm my 96-year-old grandfather refuses to drink most of the time because he has incontinence now… probably just a coincidence…

  9. ThatGirlThere says:

Tori needs therapy, and that’s okay — we all do. But thinking only her water is poisoned? Doesn’t make a lick of sense 🥴 Maybe she’s just not a fan of the taste. Lots of people aren’t. Tori! Get you some flavored water or sparkling water girl💧💧

  10. Jaded says:

She really is a hot mess isn’t she, a walking compendium of weird psychological issues.

I find plain water really boring so I put a squirt of lime cordial in it and it’s fine. I avoid fizzy water as it’s hard on your teeth, I’ll drink it maybe once a week if I feel like a gin or vodka.
