Samantha Markle’s $75K defamation case against Meghan has a new hearing date

One of the weirdest parts about this whole Markle/Sussex saga is that Thomas Markle and Samantha Grant/Markle have been paid for many years to make asses out of themselves. I think Toxic Tom has taken whatever paltry sum he accumulated and now he’s living in the Philippines and he’ll basically only perform the British media’s scripts for a baseline payday. With Samantha, it’s a bit different. For years now, someone has been financing Samantha’s attempts to sue the Duchess of Sussex for defamation. Samantha has been unsuccessful in the legal sense, but successful in the “making a horse’s ass out of herself for the tabloids” sense. Samantha’s defamation case was dismissed with prejudice last year, but she’s found some sort of loophole to sue Meghan again. Samantha and her lawyers have also been making all kinds of crazy statements about how Meghan has brought shame on the Windsors and how Sam wants Kate to make a witness statement. Well, here’s an update.

Meghan Markle is gearing up for yet another legal bout with her half-sister, Samantha Markle, The Post can confirm. The Duchess of Sussex emerged victorious in early 2023 after Samantha had sued her in federal court in Florida for allegedly making “demonstrably false and malicious statements” about her to a world audience during a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Samantha, 60, filed the $75,000 lawsuit after the “Suits” alum, 44, told Winfrey that she grew up as an only child during her and Prince Harry’s bombshell March 2021 interview. Samantha, who shares the same dad as the duchess, claimed the comments subjected her to “humiliation and hatred.”

At the time, a judge at the 11th Circuit Court of Appeal in Atlanta, Ga., had scheduled the case for the week commencing August 11. However, documents obtained by The Post show that the hearing will now take place on September 9 in Jacksonville, Fla. The Post has reached out to Meghan’s reps for comment.

Prior to her 2023 filing, Samantha, 60, had previously filed her libel lawsuit against Meghan in late 2022 — two years after the Sussexes quit royal life and moved to the US. At the time, Meghan’s legal team had dismissed her half-sister’s claims, saying they would “give it [the case] the minimum attention necessary, which is all it deserves.”

Again, Samantha has only been seeking $75,000 for this “defamation.” That’s always been the figure for which she’s suing Meghan. Samantha and her lawyers have pursued this asinine lawsuit for four years, accumulating what must be a six-figure legal bill. Who is financing this? As for the case itself… I assume it will be laughed out of court, like all of the other lawsuits. Whichever British person is financing this operation has no understanding of American defamation law. I sometimes wish Meghan was a petty person, because I want her to hire a private investigator to really look into who is behind all of this sh-t with her father and half-sister.

  1. She wants Can’t to be a witness? I’m sure if Can’t could she would but legal counsel would tell her it opens herself up for cross examination and other issues I’m sure she wouldn’t want brought up lol. Yes just which palace is financing this hot mess?

My memory of this is hazy from law school because this isn’t the type of law I practice, at all, lol, but IIRC, the 75k figure is what gets you into federal court. so that’s why she’s suing for that amount. Diversity of parties (living in different states) AND 75k.

Anyway I think this won’t go anywhere either. She just looks ludicrous at this point. Saying she grew up like an only child isn’t slandering or attacking Samantha. My husband has two siblings who are 11 and 13 years younger than him. He essentially considers himself an only child – different father, he was out of the house for most of HS between sports and such, so he just doesn’t really have a relationship with them. Sometimes siblings with big age gaps can be close, but sometimes they’re not and there’s nothing lawsuit-worthy about admitting that.

At this point? It looked ludicrous from the git-go. Not sure why this rot is getting any attention at all. It’s nauseating now.

And it’s a minimum. It’s the minimum you need to claim in that jurisdiction to claim diversity jurisdiction and remove it from state court to federal court on those grounds. She isn’t claiming just $75,000. But also from the excerpt above this is just the appeal from Meghan’s successful motion to dismiss.

Sammy the Scammer back at it with no shame.

What would Kate be a witness to that would concern Sammy? Samantha didn’t grow up with Meghan. Her own life story proves that. She got married in 1984 when Meghan would have been 3.

There are many people out there with much older siblings who would probably have said much the same as what Meghan did. My husband’s sister is ten years older than he is and he has always said he felt like an only child growing up. This was never a slam against his sister, just the reality of having another adult around not another kid to hang out with! Why do the courts continue to give this woman chance after chance?

      • I also have a sibling 10 years older and one that is 14 years older and one that is 16 years older. I was a late in life surprise and I was kinda raised like an only child because my siblings were older and had lives so I had no one to play with in home.

OMG would this grifter just go away?!

Imagine spending almost a decade of your life devoted to hating someone who doesn’t even acknowledge your existence. I mean the absolute worst case scenario for Meghan is she somehow loses and has to give this horrible woman 75k. Not a pleasant experience but not exactly going to make too serious a dent in her bank account. Samantha, on the other hand, will have – well not much. A few weeks of notoriety at best.

And there is no way anyone from the Royal Family is going to be compelled to speak out in any kind of formal statement. Good luck with that!

Is that piece of mold still around? At this point, her story isn’t even interesting to the DM.

  8. Libra says:

I suspect Meghans’ team has already researched who’s behind this, both Scammy and Tom. They know, just keeping it for the right time to pounce.

One of my favorite things about the Harry and Meghan netflix doc from 2022(?) is that Meghan got to reconnect with Ashleigh her dear friend and bio niece.
On palace advice they didn’t invite her to the wedding b/c her bio mom – the dreadful scammer that is the subject of this article, was being such a vocal media presence, and certainly was not going to be invited.

But by the end of 2021, Ashleigh was in Montecito visiting.

I point it out b/c although paid appearance family members are gross, the collateral damage from it, for a period of years, was Ashleigh. And i’m glad they get to be family again.

But seriously, i would give to a go fund me to track down who pays samantha grant’s attorney fees, b/c no contingency attorney would be stupid enough to take on this kind of debt with no big settlement or payout coming.
