Stephen Colbert showed his old headshot at the Emmys: ‘is anyone hiring?’

Stephen Colbert presented the first award of the night at the Emmys on Sunday, for Best Actor in a Comedy, which went to first-time winner (of anything, according to him) Seth Rogen. But before Colbert commenced presenting duties, as a comedic man himself we knew he was going to do a bit. Colbert walked out to a demonstrably warm reception from the audience. This, of course, was the biggest venue Colbert has been at since the news in July that CBS was canceling The Late Show next year — not just replacing Colbert, but axing the show altogether — all to appease Dear Leader so his government would let a bigly merger of studios go through. So aside from the Emmys audience being populated with Hollywood elite leftist liberals, nearly every person in that room has appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert over the years at least once, if not multiple times, to promote their own work. It was a lovely moment. And then Colbert got to his bit:

Stephen Colbert is speaking out nearly two months after The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was canceled.

The late night host, 61, addressed the end of his popular show at the Emmy Awards 2025 on Sept. 14, after he was welcomed onstage to present the award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series with a standing ovation by the crowd.

“While I have your attention, is anyone hiring? Because I’ve got 200 very well-qualified candidates with me here tonight who will be available in June,” Colbert said right off the bat, earning himself another standing ovation.

He then pulled out a piece of paper and joked that he “brought my own resumé here” in order to campaign for his next job after The Late Show ends in June.

“I haven’t had a chance to update my headshot in a bit, but I think it still works,” he said as he held up a photo of his teenage self. “I’m in there somewhere — after I get back from Istanbul, I’m sure.”

Colbert then joked that he only has one copy of his resumé, before running it over to Harrison Ford.

“Could you get this to [Steven] Spielberg?” Would you?” he asked, and Ford, 83 — a first-time nominee — enthusiastically took the paper from Colbert. The comedian then ran back to the stage and did a fingers-crossed motion before announcing the nominees.

Colbert’s comments come after he announced in July that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would be ending after 10 seasons.

The babyface of that headshot! But it’s the lack of glasses that are throwing me off more, I almost don’t recognize Stephen without them. And what’s he talking about Istanbul for, his head of hair looks great! The whole bit was cute and he executed it well (as opposed to some other gags last night that were just executed). What I enjoyed the most, though, was the sentimental angle. The fact that he waltzed out there with “Is anyone hiring?” and then immediately made it about his staff, not him. That’s a genuine mensch. His acceptance speech when he won Best Talk Series later in the evening was likewise touching when he took the time to thank a 16-year colleague of his who passed away last year. I didn’t know Amy Cole by name, but I knew how much she meant to Colbert by the reverence he showed her.

After the summer announcement that The Late Show was getting unceremoniously canned, I think most people thought they’d end up taking home the big prize (probably will next year, too). Still, it was no less satisfying for being unsurprising. The extended pause presenter Bryan Cranston had to make for the applause when Stephen’s name was listed among the nominees, that really said it all. Also, my compliments to Cranston for being a hilarious yet efficient presenter. His line that talk shows welcome people ranging “From the learned and inspirational guests like Neil deGrasse Tyson to the destructive woke degenerates like Tom Hanks,” nailed it.

    Aw I love him.

He’s a really good interviewer which I think goes unnoticed by many. He’s always welcoming to his guests but he’ll hit them with some hard questions in a soft way (if that makes sense.) Like he’s never cornering them but he’s also not there to be just a comedian or whatever it is that Jimmy Fallon tries to do.
