Prince William told Eugene Levy: ‘Sleep is an important part of my life’

There’s nothing funnier than Prince William’s desperation to be popular in America. It started happening circa 2021, the curious mentions in palace briefings of William and Kate’s desire to spend more time in America, to really launch themselves beyond the UK. That’s what the Earthshot trip to Boston was all about, when they went there in late 2022. Their asses got booed at a Celtics game and Bostonians really didn’t care all that much. Then there was the pitiful “I’m a statesman” tour in New York for William, where he desperately tried to “have meetings at the UN,” just like Harry. What’s also funny about all of that is that there IS international interest in William and Kate and they could foster better relations outside of the UK… but they’re simply too lazy to do so. Instead, William just decided to day-drink with Eugene Levy on Levy’s AppleTV+ show.

The Prince of Wales has bonded over a pint with a Hollywood comedian in a trailer for an upcoming Apple TV series. Prince William was filmed touring Windsor Castle with Eugene Levy for his travel programme, The Reluctant Traveller.

In a new trailer, the Prince, 43, drinks a pint of Inch’s cider as he tells the Schitt’s Creek creator that “2024 was the hardest year I’ve ever had”. The Prince said last December that the year had been “brutal” after both his wife, the Princess of Wales, and his father, the King, were diagnosed with cancer.

“You know, life is sent to test us and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are,” he tells Levy.

Elsewhere in the programme, the pair are filmed walking in the grounds of Windsor Castle with a black spaniel. Levy, 78, asks the Prince of Wales: “What do you do when you’re home?”

“Sleep,” he replies. “When you’ve got three small children sleep is an important part of my life.”

The programme shows Levy’s invitation to Windsor, which is written on Kensington Palace-headed paper.

“I heard that your travels have brought you to the UK, and I wondered if you might like to see Windsor Castle?” Prince William asks. “If you’re free at 10am tomorrow, why don’t you pop down to the Castle for a private tour? Would be great to see you.” The Prince is then shown greeting Levy in the castle’s quadrangle, where he appears to have arrived on an electric scooter. As the pair walk through the castle, he jokes: “We provide this service for everyone. We do personalised tours everywhere.”

[From The Telegraph]

Imagine having so little going on that “sleep” is your answer to “What do you do when you’re home?” Not… “play with my kids” or “read” or “watch TV” or “work on my special hobbies.” And his kids aren’t babies either – George is 12! Surely all three kids are sleeping through the night. Let’s be real though – he doesn’t have a lot going on. He had time to do a guest appearance on an AppleTV+ show because he thinks that will win over American hearts and minds.

  1. Lady Digby says:

Does he mean sleeping a monumental bender off?

  2. Truthiness says:

    Sleeping with who?

  3. IdlesAtCranky says:

I saw the headline and just thought “Well, DUH.”

BillyIdle strikes (or maybe swipes) again.

  4. SURE says:

Those 5 vacations in 7 months must have been exhausting if sleeping is his favourite activity when home.

  5. Nic919 says:

His kids are well past the age where they would not sleep for most of the night. Louis is 7 and would have moved out of that stage years ago. He refers to them like they are babies.

The problem with William is that he thinks he is relatable but he really isn’t. Harry has that talent but he’s also been less protected in life so he gets what is real. William has sycophants around him and he has no idea.

    • Rapunzel says:

I wonder if the last time he really lived with them was when Louis was a baby?

    • Looty says:

Yeah, 6 years ago I would have chuckled with sympathy despite loathing him even then.

    • Becks1 says:

I just saw that clip on Threads and I died laughing. Sleep? Look my kids are 13 and 10 and while they sleep through the night (or if they don’t its not my problem unless they’re sick), in some ways they are more exhausting now because we are running them here there and everywhere. Their activities are a lot more draining bc now I’m not driving to tee ball but i’m driving 2 hours for a soccer game or going away for a tournament or something. so I’m not dismissing out of hand the idea that you can be tired even if your kids arent babies. Today I am exhausted but its bc I couldn’t fall asleep until 1 last night and then woke up at 530 for work.

Anyway. all that to say……if someone asked me my favorite thing to do at home I would say read, cook, or go for a walk. If someone asked my husband he would probably say watching sports, playing some video games, going for a bike ride or a run.

Sleep?? Does this man have no hobbies? no interests? I mean he could have at least said something like “watching Aston Villa with George, you know they’re my team” or something. But no. Sleep?!!?

    • Sarah says:

Very true! Harry has been ih the army fof a decade so has mixed with people frlm all walks of life- Willie has lived in an aristocratic bubble with couriers fawning over hin – he needs a harsh reality check

  6. jais says:

I mean sure. Sleep is important. Those school runs must be brutal. Especially when you’re working a whole 3 days a week…oh wait…what’s that…he only worked one day this week? Huh. Okay then.

  7. Rapunzel says:

Omg, he’s got that “sit like your taking a dump on the toilet even though your in a meeting” act going on. Did Dump teach him that at the state visit?

  8. QuiteContrary says:

“sleep is an important part of my life.”

    We know, Willy. We know.

  9. Fiji says:

More like smoking pot, drinking then sleep. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but as heir to the throne he can’t allow it to become a habit. Also his youngest is in his 8th year and George is almost a teenager. Who does he think he’s fooling? As for the statesman struggle, it’s his lackluster university days that dog him….had William been an intellectual with strong work ethic, there’d be no question or pointless ad nauseum selling from palace officials.

  10. Mslove says:

My goodness, Peg’s acting like a single father isn’t he? He acts like he’s getting up early with the kids to make their breakfast before loading the kids into the Range Rover for the school run. After dropping off the kids, Peg has to commute to work, often getting stuck in rush hour traffic. Lol. Poor Peg, so exhausted by his make-believe life.

  11. First comment says:

Of course sleep is an important part of his life! He’s probably up all night clubbing, drinking etc. After all that, he needs his sleep!

  12. MSJ says:

This is a good example of how those royals in the UK use their influence and titles. It’s what got Andrew and Fergie associating with nefarious characters on royal properties and taking photos on thrones and what not. Even Beatrice has indulged in said behavior, there’s a story about her injuring Ed Sheehan with a sword while showing him and others around one of the properties.

William has also copied Andrew – his Earthshot scheme is a copy of Andrew’s ‘Pitch @ Palace’ scheme. Like Charles, he has found a way to leverage the Duchy. His Homewards scheme is a front for his Duchy properties to build and market their property portfolio while claiming to champion ‘homelessness awareness’.

He promotes himself as a devoted father and husband who is focused on his family as an excuse to avoid work. He inadvertently exposed himself in that program as just a lazy bloke who dodges work. [“What do you do when you’re home?” “Sleep,” he replies.] 😂

  13. Tia says:

He’s trying to be like Harry. Also, you are so right on cause all three aren’t small anymore. Lilibet and Archie is. And also I remembered they went after Harry and Meg for being “too Hollywood,” and yet they do the same thing.

    • MSJ says:

William had Kensington Palace send an invitation out to Levy to get onto Levy’s program. It wasn’t the program that reached out to invite William to appear on the show. He used his position/Royal status to impose himself. They would not say no to a Royal request couched as an invitation. Also, access to the palace is rare so that access is too good of an offer to pass up even without William. The Wales are the opposite of the Sussexes who receive requests to appear on programs and attend events. I’m glad Levy showed the invitation so people know it was William who asked to be on the show. 😝

They were screaming for years that the Sussexes should be banned from bringing Netflix cameras onto Royal property yet William and Kate have been opening up the doors to various networks with cameras so they can film themselves like Hollywood celebrities on television.

William and Kate have gotten everything they didn’t want the Sussexes to have, yet they are unhappy and jealous of the Sussexes who moved far away to live in America (5000 miles away).

And why does William always look awkward to me? He never seems comfortable. 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • Sarah says:

Exactly! Hes a total hypocrite and a tragic wannabe

  14. MSJ says:

Also what nonsense words salad is this: “You know, life is sent to test us and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are,” he tells Levy.

I guess William wanted to say that challenges are meant to test us. Who knows… but for sure there is no such thing as life being sent to test us. People live their lives everyday with challenges, like Harry having to deal with an entitled belligerent William (the unsatisfied heir) who cannot control his rage and envy, an heir who uses his sycophantic supporters to undermine his brother on a daily basis even disrupting his brother’s charities that help thousands of people. 😬

    • tamsin says:

Well, at the moment life itself DOES seem to be a challenge to William. I can’t believe that sleep is what William says he does when he’s home. If he’s sleeping I guess he can’t help the kids with their homework, or even watch football with the them. No human interaction? No hobbies, no entertaining? He’s a man who does nothing but sleep, which is a lot when you consider how often he is out and about fulfilling “duties.”

    • Sarah Westwood says:

He doesn’t live with the children thats why !

  15. Kara says:

Eugene Levy is Canadian. He chose to stay in Canada and not live in Hollywood so it is curious how this even came about. I think it’s funny how concentration was on him being a celebrity and naming his show but the excerpt and write-up intentionally left out the Canadian angle. William and Kate aren’t going to happen outside of their royal mess.

    • Nic919 says:

The show airs on Apple TV and William likely watched it. Let’s not forget that Tim Cook showed up with free Apple products for both William and Kate and that likely includes a free Apple TV subscription.

  16. GoodWitchGlenda says:

Dont let this William cameo ruin this show for you in general. I really love it! Season 1 in particular.

    • Beverley says:

I’ve been a Eugene Levy fan ever since stumbling upon SCTV. The Reluctant Traveler is a brilliant show, I totally agree about Season 1. Levy’s an amazing comedian, so I can overlook William’s cameo. I’ll just skip that episode.

  17. M says:

I love how it’s constantly being framed that William’s year was hard when he wasn’t the one with cancer. This idea that William suffered so much when he apparently did nothing but go on a bender and post on football forums the whole year is insane. I know the King won’t talk about his cancer (probably bc it’s incurable), but allowing this narrative to continue is offensive. Kate certainly can’t talk about hers because she never had it (nevermind that she is too empty-headed to be interviewed with any real meaning).

  18. BeanieBean says:

Sleep knowing the kids are well taken care of by somebody else.

  19. Amy Bee says:

This is so sad on so many levels.

  20. Maja says:

William is so clumsy and/or has the worst advisors in the world. I always get the feeling that these people think, “We’ll get him to the coronation first, then everything will sort itself out.” Do they really believe that? That can’t be true because it’s not just right-wing newspapers, most people get their information from reputable sources. This man simply does not have a successful personality for a head of state – at least from what you can see and hear.
The idea of this couple representing my country on an international stage is inconceivable to me. But we also have elections here.

  21. Sarah Westwood says:

Mrs Bean hss far more charisma than Willie!
