Princess Kate repeated a good Emilia Wickstead dress for a visit to Anna Freud

The Princess of Wales was out during the American Thanksgiving holiday. She visited London’s Anna Freud center, and her visit was meant to highlight the center’s work on mental health and early childhood development. It was basically a photo-op for Kate to gawp at babies. You can read more about the visit here – People Magazine just cuts-and-pastes the PR emails from Kensington Palace at this point.

Interestingly enough, I enjoyed Kate’s ensemble here. She repeated a smart Emilia Wickstead dress which she first wore in Boston in 2022. I liked it better in Boston, because it was fitted for her figure then. She’s lost weight in the past three years and this dress now looks baggy on her from some angles. Besides that whole conversation, this is what I think Kate’s “real” style is: prim, pinched even, but with clean lines and a vintage feel. I love that she paired this dress with those Boss pumps and I like her DeMellier Hudson bag. It looks like a mini-Birkin from some angles. The rich brown suede is nice.

The Telegraph had a piece about how Kate is in her “pantsuits era” but she still knows how to wear a good dress. I… disagree that she’s in a pantsuits era. I think she’s trying to make fetch happen and she wanders around looking like Gumby. But again, I like this dress, I just wish it fit her better three years later.

The next big Kate thing is her Together at Christmas event on Friday. We usually get a promotional video or a photoshoot ahead of the event, I wonder if that will happen this year. It feels like with each passing year, Kate has less and less to do with her supposed “signature event.” People Mag had a story about how Kate will “be joined by the royal family” at the concert. I think they mean William and the kids, because Charles and Camilla would not be caught dead at the concert at this point. I’m sure Sophie will come out, and the Middletons, of course.

  1. Yes must get some good PR to cover for the laziness so will put a nice outfit on and appear to work. Mission accomplished! Also let a toddler of color touch her hand for bonus points.

  2. Alex Can says:

She does not look healthy! When she wore the dress a few years she was thin but now it’s hanging off of her. I don’t like her much but I genuinely worry for her.

  3. Sunniside up says:

She needs the sort of mirrors that enable you to look at your back as well, or some one who cares what she looks like, hair looks weird again at the back, and why didn’t she have a dressmaker alter the dress? And why the brown bag, a black or grey one would look a lot better. She used to look immaculate.

    • Chrissy says:

I think the style of the bag is okay but the brown doesn’t go with the dress IMO. Has she ever carried a red or blue bag? Some contrasting colour would have worked better. Everything looks so basic on her. And her hair is still ridiculous!

  4. First comment says:

The dress is really nice but I liked better in Boston because it fitted her better…now, I don’t know…I’m really worried about her size…she changed the belt here but it still looks big for her…

    • Mightymolly says:

ITA and really like the dress. But one of the things I like is that it seems like it would flatter many body types. I can see a shorter, curvier figure pulling that off- which is often not the case with high end fashion. But there’s tall and slender and there’s Kate. IDK.

  5. JustBitchy says:

All torso. The dress does no favors for those disproportionately short legs.

    • Debbie says:

I completely agree with you about the proportions, it seems “off” and overly elongated. But I disagree about the remark above about Kate’s style being about “clean lines.” She seems to like old-fashioned looks, but this is a woman who has never met a peplum, ruffle, pussy bow, column of buttons, or exaggeratedly padded shoulder pads she didn’t like, sometimes (Lord bless her) she wears all those details together in the same outfit. So, no “clean lines” there.

      • Smatone99 says:

Right? Kate’s never been about clean lines. If she can get buttons, epaulets, frills and bows into one outfit she will.

Her original ‘style’ if you can call it that was pleated, just above or at the knee twee dresses (anything that would blow up in a breeze which was her preference) and a clutch. Plus coat dresses. She never wore anything a real human being would wear.

      • Nic919 says:

Her Remembrance Day outfits have tassels, some of them right over the nipples area. And the fascinators and hats are the silliest things ever.

Kate is the opposite of modern clean lines.

      • jais says:

Agree about the lack of what I would consider clean lines. But maybe that was a reference to the tailoring. Bc her clothes are usually very tailored. The tailoring is always there, along with all the little extras, in this case the pointy collars, which for her, is less accoutrements than usual.

    • Me at home says:

The dress has her usual high-waisted belt, which is meant to shorten her torso. It’s the camera angle and her body in motion that give it away with this dress and many of her other outfits.

I do appreciate when she wears a pattern, any pattern. It’s a break from the endless solid colors with rows of buttons or pussy bows, which end up looking like what my mom used to call “a long drink of water.”

  6. Harla says:

She really should chop about 4-5 inches from the length of her hair, it just looks messy. But as we all know, she won’t unless Meghan cuts her hair first.

  7. Jais says:

Well, I prefer her in fussy dresses to suits bc it doesn’t feel like she’s trying to copy-keen Meghan. The dress is fine. I like the print even if it feels fussy and loong.
Color predictions for the holiday concert? I would’ve said green but she already did that for the variety show. Maybe another green but in a different shade?

    • Marley says:

I’m going to go with white. Maybe a bulky coat with a belt and maybe some faux fur? And boots? Something to add volume and structure.

      • jais says:

Maybe. She did white a few years ago but it can always make a comeback. Iirc, the white outfit resembled one Meghan had worn to IG. I have no idea. I just like guessing predictions. How about some festive plaid lol.

      • Chrissy says:

How about red and green plaid with a huge white collar and a red bow in her hair? LOL She’s nothing if not a theme dresser.

    • Magdalena says:

I predict she’ll wear something in Sussex Tartan, which looks remarkably similar to the pattern of Princess Lili’s sold out dress. (Or, recalling how she dressed Louis in Prince Harry’s baby outfit even though he had just got a son, she may dress Charlotte in that pattern).

Unless the WLM holiday episode which comes out on the 3rd has an outfit that Meghan gets rave reviews for, then she’ll copy that instead.

  8. kynesgrove says:

My god. I don’t like this woman at all but you can just see the ED and imposter syndrome on display. If she left tomorrow and disavowed her past behavior and that wretched “family” she would be ok. Maybe.

  9. Neeve says:

What do you think her diet is like? She has Victoria Beckham level discipline,to maintain such weight as you get older is no joke(also see Nancy Regan) I think they probably on some keto/ atkins diet.

    • Nerd says:

I don’t think this is from dieting and if it is, yikes, she needs to stop. This isn’t healthy at all and this is the reason I don’t believe she has any real fans or support in her family (royal and Middleton), the media or on social media because if anyone really cared they would stop pretending like she is okay. During the year that she was supposedly going through cancer, she looked better than William and now she looks worse than she looked during that entire year. I would even say that this is the worse she’s ever looked. The dress is a beautiful dress but the dress isn’t the problem here, whatever is going on with her physically is what needs to be addressed by those around her. She’s skin and bones to the point that her head and hair look massive on that extremely thin body.

  10. Marley says:

Maybe I’m old, but do people not wear slips anymore? Either that dress should be better lined, or she should have something on underneath. It seems tacky the way it clings to her legs and ruins the lines of the dress.

But I do feel guilty talking about fashion when she is so obviously ill, mentally and physically.

    • Inge says:

Kate has never wore slips orweighted hems, or often not even wearing visible underwear, resulting in her flashing the world repeatedly on royal tours.

Then again she was known as Kate Middlebum st secondary school for flashing her bare bottom many times.

  11. Amy Bee says:

The pants suits are soforced and just a cosplay of Meghan. This outfit is her real style and she should stick to it.

  12. duchess of hazard says:

this is what I think Kate’s “real” style is: prim, pinched even, but with clean lines and a vintage feel.

Indeed. You look at this and nod, because this is definitely her style. Nice to see her recycling her wardrobe – no matter the reason.

  13. Tina says:

The last two outfits have clearly highlighted her very gaunt figure. The green dress was skin tight and yet this one loose and clearly baggy. She wants people talking about her weight. In the past her clothes have been altered to hide her thinness (shoulder pads, boob darts, heavy coats etc). But now it’s on display.

  14. Kaye says:

Why are Kate and Will doing that clenched-teeth smile? That was always a habit of Kate’s but now Will is doing it also.

  15. kelleybelle says:

This may be an unpopular opinion but I think this is the ugliest dress ever. It’s unflattering, too long and a total bore. Why emphasize a dangerous weight loss?

    • BeanieBean says:

Yeah, I think knee length would be better. But for her right now, at this weight, it’s just wrong all the way around. And of all the handbags she has in her closet, she chose brown suede? It’s a great bag, just not for this outfit. Yet another example of how that job as an ‘accessory buyer’ was just a gimme.

    • Red Weather Tiger says:

I agree. That dress is awful. It goes so far beyond prim and prissy that the Pilgrim women would have looked laid-back comparatively.

    • Magdalena says:

I agree. Nice pattern, hideous dress. But few things designed by Emilia Wickstead look good. I think the dress does what she intended it to do: cover up her prominent neck and chest bones. However, I do think that she is actually PROUD of her massive weight loss. She had at one point been dressing to mask it, but now she appears to really be leaning into it again with the body-skimming outfits (or skin-tight, as in that green velvet dress).

  16. Tessa says:

    Drab and dowdy
She wears the lighter color wig again

  17. QuiteContrary says:

I like the dress, but yeah, she’s wasting away and needs help stat.

  18. Gemini says:

She should have worn a blazer over this dress. She should layer more for her current frame. That’s all I will say.

  19. M says:

A brown purse with a grey and black dress is a mistake. And I have nothing to add about her body as it’s already been said.

    • Steph says:

On my screen, the dress shows up as a two tone cool blue so the brown bag looks fine to me. Funny how we all interpret color differently.

    • kelleybelle says:

With her stylist gone and when she is not copying Meghan, Kate is a disaster at fashion, let’s face it.

  20. tamsin says:

I think Kaiser’s word “prim” describes Kate’s style perfectly. I would add that it is also fussy, perhaps to hide thinness, thus the dozens of peplums, bows, and ruffles, even buttons, and padded shoulders. I think the dress could look very elegant styled differently, but the straight lines just makes Kate look like a twig. Like the brown bag for contrast.

  21. Normades says:

This is a cute prim dress but the pointy shoes ruin the vibe. High heeled Mary Jane’s or heeled loafers in black or brown would be great

  22. NikkiK says:

Kate would look so much better if she cut about 6-8 inches from her hair and worked to put on a little bit of weight; even 10lbs would make a difference. She truly just looks old and frail.

    • Smatone99 says:

It’s not her hair. Her hair is much shorter. And with no volume – look at the ski pics. This is plopped on top – a deliberate choice.

  23. MsKrisTalk says:

I think dresses would look better on her if they were slightly shorter but I think that she chooses longer dresses to deflect from her declining physical stature. A gust of wind would blow her over. It appears that she is punishing herself.

  24. Chrawi says:

She is absolutely swimming in that dress. Jeez. I hope she gets the help she needs

  25. Krista says:

IMO, the dress is dowdy, not good.

    • Sharon says:

I think she will wear red or black to her event. This dress seems a bit threadbare. Because of her weight issues & time of year, I’d choose something with a heavier weight to it. She looked as thin but much better in the green velvet. Meghan is slim, do you think this is a competition with her, in her own mind, like, who is thinnest? There will be health repercussions in the future, such as bone density.

  26. Shoegirl77 says:

The dress gives me Wallis Simpson vibes. She needs to sort out the wiglets, they weigh more than her at this stage. I did a charity head shave two weeks ago yesterday and I reckon I’ve got more hair on my scalp than she does.

    • Tessa says:

Wallis had real style. She pulled back her hair and had a neat appearance. And wore the fashions of the time very well .Wallis never had those awful wigs like keen has

  27. Mightymolly says:

I reupped with Netflix for Stranger Things (who didn’t?) and treated myself to some choice episodes of the Crown. The actress in the Will & Kate episode was chosen for her resemblance to Kate’s athletic college years, and there’s so much talk of how attractive she is.

I know body dymorophia is not about being attractive, but she was never the chubby girl, unlike Diana, who also had an eating disorder, so the obsession with thinness over fitness is something else. Where does it come from?

    • Nic919 says:

Eating disorders come from the need to control something because your life seems out of control otherwise. Marrying into that family and William cheating on her multiple times would be things that would set her off.

  28. Andrea says:

Nothing looks good on her now. She’s just too thin.

  29. Cathy says:

Note that Kate walked into the building with a handbag but left without it.
