Duchess Meghan called hospitals in the Philippines, trying to find Thomas Markle

Something interesting about this current Thomas Markle psychodrama is that we’re seeing the Sussexes’ new communications strategy play out in real time. In 2025, Prince Harry and Meghan finally saw the light and realized that they can’t let these bullsh-t stories fester with zero pushback or correction. When Thomas Markle called up his Daily Mail handler Caroline Graham last Wednesday, it only took Meghan and her office 48 hours to get really proactive about pushing back. Last Friday, Meghan’s spokesperson confirmed (on the record) that Meghan had “reached out” to Thomas via email, and that the email had gone through (meaning, it did not bounce back and it was still a valid email address). That’s caused nothing but consternation from the Mail, because they clearly believed that they set some kind of trap for Meghan. From the Times:

Meghan has struggled to contact her father after his life-saving surgery because she has lost his phone number and he has stopped using his email address, it is claimed. Sources close to the Duchess of Sussex insisted she contacted Thomas Markle by email on Friday, but that she no longer had his phone number after several years of estrangement.

A source close to the Sussexes said she had tried to get in touch, including emailing him on Friday morning and contacting the newspaper to ask for an up-to-date contact. The source said: “The Mail made no attempt to contact the duchess’s team prior to publication to verify the claims in their report. Had they asked, particularly in light of the quotes they relied upon from Mr Markle and hospital staff, we would simply have told them to ask Mr Markle to check his email. We first saw the story only after it was published. We immediately informed the Mail that the duchess had in fact emailed her father, a detail we had deliberately chosen not to share in order to avoid further dragging this private matter into the public eye.”

It is understood Meghan does not know what hospital her father is in and no longer is in possession of his phone number, which has either been lost or deleted. She remains reticent about speaking to him owing to fears their conversation would not remain private.

[From The Times]

Obviously, Meghan’s refusal to call her father is completely justified and multifold. I believe she probably deleted his number long ago, but even if she had it, she wouldn’t call him because she doesn’t believe that he’s the only one with access to his phone. And clearly, Meghan is justifiably suspicious of this entire storyline from her sh-thead father. Speaking of, Meghan has apparently called various hospitals trying to track down where Thomas is being treated. Checkmate! She’s not calling to speak to Thomas, she’s checking up on his story.

The Duchess of Sussex has personally called several hospitals in the Philippines in a search for her estranged father. Meghan, 44, intends to have a handwritten note delivered to Thomas Markle, 81, after his leg was reportedly amputated below the knee during surgery to remove a blood clot. After emailing him with no luck since reports of his surgery surfaced on Wednesday, the Duchess has since “personally called several hospitals”, without success, to try to locate Mr Markle.

The Telegraph understands her aides believe he is a patient at a hospital in Cebu in the Philippines – where he moved to from Mexico at the beginning of this year – but have not yet confirmed this is the case. This development is based on pictures published of Mr Markle by the Mail on Sunday, which has so far not answered attempts by the Sussexes to facilitate contact between the pair, it is understood.

Thomas Markle told the Mail on Sunday he was “confused” by reports that she had attempted to make contact, insisting he had not changed his number and had received no messages. It was then claimed that the email was sent to an address he had not used for five years, but sources said it appeared to have been delivered and did not bounce back. The Duchess’s aides have now made clear that if he is willing to share a different address, or if the Mail on Sunday will share contact information for Mr Markle, she will reach out. It is understood that the tabloid has so far not answered requests to send her aides a number or email address for her father, or inform them of which hospital he is currently receiving treatment in.

Mr Markle is also reportedly not in possession of his phone, and sources suggested even with the correct number, it would be “extraordinarily irresponsible” for Meghan to leave a voicemail in light of Prince Harry’s experience with phone hacking.

A spokesperson for DMG Media, which owns the Mail on Sunday, said: “Our journalist, Caroline Graham, has had a close relationship with Mr Markle since 2018. He contacted Ms Graham when he was taken ill and asked her to travel to the Philippines to be with him. Nothing has been published without his specific consent and that of his son. Ms Graham has confirmed to the Duchess of Sussex’s representative that Mr Markle does not have an active email address but that his phone number, which the Duchess has previously used for him, remains unchanged. Ms Graham has made clear that if she can do anything to facilitate contact between Mr Markle and his daughter to have a conversation, then she would be happy to do so. That remains the case. Any suggestion we have ‘puppeteered’ Mr Markle is entirely false and strongly denied.”

[From The Telegraph]

That statement from the Mail is… extraordinary. As if the fact that Meghan is checking up on the whole emergency hospitalization story. It also sounds like Meghan’s refusal to fall into Caroline Graham’s Scooby-Doo-esque trap has blown up in the Mail’s face, right? The reason why the Mail spent the whole weekend screaming and crying about how Meghan hasn’t been in contact with Thomas is because… Caroline has Thomas’s phone and she’s monitoring his communications. I would love it if some other outlet – perhaps an American outlet? – did some kind of larger exposé on what’s really happened in the past week. Last thing: it’s extraordinary that Thomas, who is supposedly fighting for his life, is basically giving dozens of interviews dictating HOW Meghan is supposed to contact him. If he really was on his last leg (heh), surely any word from his estranged daughter would mean the world to him?

This is why I wasn’t worried when people were asking why did she reach out to him on Friday. People that have gone no contact or low contact recognize all of this. The constantly changing stories, the constantly changing levels of seriousness, the public nature of it intended to embarrass you. The emotional manipulation. This is not new. I guarantee you he didn’t start behaving like this when she was 35 years old. He’s been doing stuff like this since she was a kid probably.

The Mail clearly had planned to have this lead up right after her show debuted, then to do a splashy expose on Sunday about how terrible she was. And then they had to scramble because she messed up their narrative. Now she’s consistently messing up their narrative, and people are asking, if you know she’s trying to reach out to you why do you keep giving updated interviews and don’t reach out to her team?

Even though I’m sure this is intensely embarrassing for her, she is correct and her communications team is correct to let this play out in public. A lot of people don’t remember who weren’t there from the very beginning all of the stuff around the wedding. And a lot of newer fans don’t know about the stuff that Tom Jr and the lawsuits that her sister literally just had a few months ago in court. Airing all this nastiness to the light is the best way to finally get them out of her life.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Most people who go no contact with a close family member don’t have an employee from a British tabloid controlling all communications with the family member. It complicates the situation a lot. And it’s absolutely extraordinary that any publication which claims to be doing journalism has insinuated itself into a private family matter like this. I can’t think of a remotely similar situation.

      • Not a Subject says:

Agree Brassy R, the media makes this so much worse. I cannot believe he called Caroline Graham at the Daily Mail before his own children!! Or that he texts her daily. She gleefully wrote that in her story but the DM had hubris and didn’t realize how bad they’d look.

They orchestrated the papparazzi photos that ruined the relationship, they held those until a week before the wedding, they then printed her entire letter asking him to not contact the media, got sued and lost, moved a reporter nextdoor and now they are guarding him at the hospital and Megan’s Team is having to ask the puppeteers at the DM for her own fathers contact info. Crazy making

    • Yup, Me says:

Thomas’s antics are a really good example of why people are so relieved when their narc dies.

  2. Hypocrisy says:

What a dramatic mess this all is.. I hope Meghan isn’t letting them drain her energy they aren’t worth it.

    • Magdalena says:

I dont think she is: I think she is at a point in her life where she expects this from him, and simply sighs and rolls her eyes. That’s why she is taking such a methodical approach to this latest attempt to publicly embarrass her and to get her attention. Grifting Thomas and the Daily Mail got the attention, all right, just not the one they wanted.

Plus, thankfully, she has enough people to keep a healthy distance between her and the drama, or the “noise”, as she would call it. And thank goodness for that!

      • Bqm says:

The opposite of love isn’t hate it’s apathy. I think that Meghan isn’t apathetic but she certainly isn’t wasting emotional bandwidth on him. She doesn’t hate him and I’m sure wishes him health because she’s a kind person but you know she’s just checked out on a deep emotional level.

    • PrincessK says:

Well I would hope that the Sussexes team would have anticipated that sooner or later her father would get ‘ill’ and use the opportunity to make Meghan look bad and make lots of money out of it at the same time. The Daily Fail is really sick…the fact that they have a female ‘journalist ‘ hanging around proves that they have been waiting and planning for this to happen. I really hope that the Sussex team have a solid plan for how to handle all that is likely to happen in the coming months or years.

  3. ThatGirlThere says:

Caroline probably convinced Tom to chop off some of his leg to try and force Meghan’s hand. These people are both stupid and evil.

  4. Julia says:

A father that wanted to hear from his daughter would not be using the Daily Mail, a tabloid that harasses his daughter as an intermediary. He would provide her with an email address or an address where a letter could be sent. Of course Meghan doesn’t want to phone Thomas. It sounds like Caroline Graham has his phone! In 2018 when Caroline first became embedded in the Markle family Meghan’s texts and private letter ended up splashed all over the Mail. Extraordinary that Caroline Graham won’t tell Meghan’s team what hospital he is in. The Mail has overplayed their hand and this has blown up in their face! Now even conservative news outlets are sounding suspicious of the Mail and their intentions!

  5. Sunniside up says:

Easy to lose a phone number.

    • IdlesAtCranky says:

Easy to lie and say “I haven’t changed my phone number!”

I highly doubt she lost or deleted anything. I suspect he changed his number when he moved to the Philippines if not before, and also that she knows perfectly well that any phone he has is completely compromised by the Fail’s embedded puppeteer.

  6. s808 says:

thomas and the daily mail are really staging a medical emergency to get Meghan’s attention. they want her attention THAT bad. this is so sad and pathetic 😭

  7. BlueSky says:

“Ms Graham has made clear that if she can do anything to facilitate contact between Mr Markle and his daughter to have a conversation, then she would be happy to do so. That remains the case. Any suggestion we have ‘puppeteered’ Mr Markle is entirely false and strongly denied.” Is this b@@@h serious??? Yeah Meghan is totally going to reach out to you. I don’t believe this story about him at all. He just happens to get sick around the time WLM holiday special came out? He’s not serious about repairing this relationship. If he was he would have reached out to her.

    • Magdalena says:

Yep, she wants to “facilitate contact” so that she can then faithfully reproduce the details of that contact in the trash paper she works for. That woman really is a piece of work. But then, so is Thomas Markle. Birds of feather and all that. Ugh.

And yes, the continued insistence that Meghan should “call” that grifting man suggests that Caroline Graham indeed has his phone, ready to record any message or call from Meghan.

How come Markle no longer has his phone? He managed to find his phone to call this reporter, but not to call his daughter?

I trust Meghan. She seems to be taking a sane, rational – one might say dispassionate – approach to this whole mess. That is what is needed when dealing with toxic, emotionally manipulative people like Markle. I feel certain that she fully expected a new medical emergency tale from her father, especially after the “earthquake” plot which also blew up in the Daily Mail’s face.

It takes some blinking NERVE to harass and slander a woman every day then offer your services to said woman to “facilitate contact” with her own father.

I feel there may finally be a statement officially cutting off that vile man and wishing him well with his accomplices at the Daily Mail.

    • jais says:

“Any suggestion we have ‘puppeteered’ Mr Markle is entirely false and strongly denied.”
So this just tells us that they definitely puppeteered everything. Stating the denial so clearly look like an admission of guilt.

      • jais says:

I just realized that the word puppeteered was a reference back to the letter Meghan wrote her dad, when she said the tabloids were puppeteering him. The one they unlawfully published. So they’re still mad about that and still referencing it? They lost that suit. Let it go, jeez.

  8. Barbara says:

    “Below the knee amputation!”
“Wait, it was a foot amputation!”

It was probably just the top of his little toe. Megan is 100% right to check hospitals to make sure he even been admitted.

    • Ginger says:

The fact that the story keeps changing says everything. This is all a ploy to go after Meghan it’s plain to see. This is why Meghan isn’t rushing to reach out or to call that awful man. She knows. He ALWAYS has medical issues when Meghan doing something.

    • bisynaptic says:

Yeah, that whole story is suspect. Foot amputations, in a man as obese as Markle, are generally a consequence of uncontrolled diabetes, not an “emergency” blood clot. The kind of lower extremity clots that are dangerous, deep-vein thromboses (DVTs), are generally only emergent and life-threatening, when they embolize to other structures, like the heart, lungs, or brain. And when they do require amputation, they generally take more than just the foot.

Something rotten in the State of Denmark.

  9. Meg has her ducks in a row and is handling this “situation “ correctly. Her father and The Mail are known liars and fairytale writers. Who knows what really happened with her father and his “new life threatening emergency “!’

  10. Lili says:

something that is interesting about this whole story is Thomas is not looking for help with rehablitation, after all Meghan’s husband works with amputees, which makes me doubt the story . but why all the Cat and mouse games. and why has Camila’s biographer embedded her self in a family drama and being the gatekeeper between a father and his daughter

  11. Julie says:

Meghan project the image of a woman totally in control of the situation. Haters won’t change their mind about her, but moderate or undecided British might develop respect for her.

  12. Tessa says:

Tom markle actually was trying to get visitation rights to the Sussex children
With all his sinister goings those children should not go near him.

    • Sunniside up says:

He doesn’t bother with his other grandchildren.

    • Beverley says:

Thankfully, he wouldn’t be granted visitation rights. In California, a grandparent has no rights to visitation or custody, unless the grandparent had a prior relationship with those grandchildren. Thomas Markle hasn’t a candle’s prayer in hell under that criteria.

  13. Zapp Brannigan says:

Is Caroline Graham’s family not mortified by her behaviour? She has debased herself.

Maybe Meghan can reach out to Caroline and gift her some products from As Ever so Caroline can get the taste of Thomas Markle out of her mouth.

  14. Amy Bee says:

It’s been really interesting to see other British outlets react to the new revelations. They’re not all gung ho to bash Meghan. I think the DM/MoS involvement in this and Meghan’s reaction to the news has caused a lot of doubt and placed a lot of scrutiny on the DM’s actions, especially as it seems that they are Toxic Tom’s handler and are hindering Meghan’s attempts to reach him. It was also interesting that there was no follow up headline story in today’s DM and that Charlotte Griffiths who usually goes on GB News on Sundays wasn’t on the show last night. In fact the host criticised Toxic Tom for getting the DM involved in this situation. Meghan can only do so much and I wouldn’t blame her if she just gives up trying to find him soon. I’m glad she’s not falling for the DM’s traps.

    • Jais says:

Agree. It’ll be interesting to see if this keeps up but most people are looking at what the DM and markle and Graham are doing in disgust. There’s a few usual suspects still trying to make it a thing but mostly this seems to have backfired for the DM.

      • Lady Digby says:

Agreed all of this is ugly and disturbing. Most of us with aged parents who are subject to frequent hospitalisations know this is a bogus way to behave. Anybody genuinely ill doesn’t contact a DM reporter before an emergency operation and doesn’t pose for extensive photos and give lengthy interviews.

      • jais says:

And the very idea that Meghan is being told to contact a DM reporter if she wants to talk to her dad is absolutely wild! Wild. Caroline Graham is likely the one that Tom gave Meghan’s letter to and then she gave it to the DM to be published. Harry is suing the DM for phone hacking. Why would she contact a DM reporter??? Why would she feel comfortable calling her dad when a DM reporter is hovering over his bed and taking pictures? Omg! It’s unbelievable.

      • Gabby says:

Because I think they want to compromise Harry’s lawsuit by having his wife initiate contact with them. Once both parties have lawyered up, you are not supposed to contact the opposing side at all.

    • MsIam says:

This is definitely giving more weight to Harry and other plaintiffs claims about the intrusive and unethical nature of the Daily Fail.

  15. sara says:

I wish someone clearheaded would report on this and say the obvious – from 2018 if he wanted to connect with her, he would call her and NOT tell the daily mail. He would just reach out to her as I am sure he can do and he would explicitly tell the daily mail “no comment”. the fact that they don’t say this (and I don’t mean the daily mail but I mean the more serious papers who still report on this stuff) is just so dishonest.

    • Ciotog says:

Shoot, he could probably mail a letter to “Meghan, Montecito, CA” and it would be delivered.

    • bisynaptic says:

I suspect that he’s become the Daily Mail’s “kept” man. They clearly have an arrangement; maybe they pay him some regular amount, plus extra, for each “exclusive”, whenever he can provide one. But they’re also probably just paying him, regularly, regardless. He might not have disclosed this arrangement to the other kids.

      • Gabby says:

I think you are right on the money @bisynaptic. He is on the Fail’s payroll, though probably as an independent contractor. He should have negotiated for a salary and medical insurance that covers care in the PI.

  16. Jais says:

Wooowww. The DM and Caroline Graham look so bad for this. She has access to his phone. She is telling Meghan via the DM to just in get touch via that phone. Anyone in the world can see the way they are setting Meghan up. No one would blame Meghan for not calling that phone. What a desperate shit show.

  17. RiaH says:

Again you don’t just amputate for a clot. You give medicine to dissolve it or do a vein bypass surgery. You do amputate a dead leg or one that is so infected that it has became life threatening. Source – 1) I worked for a vascular surgeon 2) My daddy had had multiple clots 3) My family carries an inherited clotting disorder so several aunts and cousins have had clots.

    • Eurydice says:

Also, wouldn’t some one who supposedly has had one or two heart attacks and a stroke already be on blood thinners?

      • kelleybelle says:

Jr. did say that his dad has to be on meds for that for the rest of his life, but he’s a known liar too, so …

    • Sunniside up says:

Of course his foot might have been going black and he did nothing about it, In which case it is self inflicted, why did the son let it get so bad.

  18. Inge says:

Someone suggested that you can put disclaimers in emails which is probably why the DM is so eager for M to phone him

    • jenjamtx says:

“NOTICE: This communication may contain confidential and/or privileged information. If you are not the intended recipient, you are hereby notified that any disclosure, copying, distribution, or the taking of any action in reliance on the contents of this information is strictly prohibited. If you have received this email in error, please immediately notify the sender by return email and delete this message from your system.”

I would guess that is why Meg sent an email.

  19. GMHQ says:

This entire mess may in fact be a scam. The Daily Mail photo of Tom in the hospital is NOT in the Philippines! The hospital jersey he is wearing in bed has “UCMED” all over it. The Mail said it was provided to them by Markle, who pleaded that they include the photo. If so, it probably is from his stay at UC Medical Center years ago when he had his heart procedure. No wonder Meghan is proceeding with caution. These people are downright evil!

    • Eurydice says:

The UCMED logo is from University of Cebu Medical Center.

    • samipup says:

Can hospitals outside the US give out information if a person is a patient or not? Do they have the equivalent of HIPAA?

    • bluhare says:

What I find interesting is a man who theoretically has had two heart attacks and a stroke moved to the Philippines without proper insurance so now he’s bleating about how his care isn’t covered? A man who has to take daily medications? All I know is I’ve had conversations with people moving to a different *state* who are concerned about whether their care will be covered. Much less a foreign country. I don’t buy it. Is he really that stupid? I wouldn’t think so.

      • BeanieBean says:

Exactly right, @bluhare. Now that I’m older & have certain genetic health issues making themselves known, I have to think about access to medical care–literal access, as in travel time to the hospital in an emergency. Having the right set of doctors with the right specialties and so on. My guess is this would have been more available to him in LA but he chose to move to the Philippines.

He also chose to live on an upper floor in a high rise & apparently can only get around in a wheelchair? Whatever that nonsense was about with respect to the earthquake. 🤷‍♀️.

  20. NoBS Please says:

Seems this story is so bonkers, and it shows the Daily Fail in such bad light, that some of the usual shameless British media are slowly backing off from it – it’s not currently on their front pages.

    What a surprise!

They thought they had something they could run on for weeks, instead most people think it’s a load of pure BS intended to harass Meghan and generate clicks from haters – the usual nonsense.

Repugnant Thomas Markle obviously isn’t at death’s door, and his attempts at emotional manipulation have fallen completely flat. Especially as Meghan has called his bluff by having her spokesperson say she’s reaching out. Plus it’s so clever of Meghan’s team to be clear that she cannot trust any direct contact with her pissy dad given that she knows the Daily Fail would be listening, something not even her most rabid haters can hold against her.

There seems to be one hater who can’t let go though, Melanie McDonough at the Standard, a contestant for the title of queen of the Meg-hating Karens. I haven’t clicked on her stupid article, of course, and no-one should.

  21. Mightymolly says:

I’ve always been confused by TM’s agenda. He was invited to the wedding and didn’t go. I know he was embarrassed or something about being called out on his shenanigans, but he had opportunities to meet Harry, if that’s what he really wanted. It seems his only goal has been monetizing his connection to the BRF.

    • MsIam says:

If Toxic Sr. really wanted to repair his relationship with Meghan, he would have reached out to resolve this right after the wedding. I read he filed bankruptcy in 2016 so he was probably strapped for cash and the palace and the Fail knew it and figured he was ripe for the pickings. Not excusing Toxic for being a POS dad and letting this drag on for 10 years either. When participated in that fake pictures scheme and he sold or allowed that letter from Meghan to be published, that sealed his fate.

      • Lady Digby says:

TM has repeatedly made the decision to betray his own daughter for tabloid cash because he fondly imagines he is a star in his own soap opera. Nobody who loved their daughter would carry on like this in public for years or even betray their child once . Loving parents protect and defend their children not just in with their tormentors! The tabs haven’t groomed him: he is gleefully being interviewed. How low can you go? TM goes that low every time he trashed his own daughter!

      • jais says:

He’s authorizing his doctor to give the DM quotes. The DM is obviously paying him for this story. It’s gross.

      • bluhare says:

He wants her to support him.

      • jais says:

Yeah, I think he wants money from her. The DM will only pay him so much. Or to get a picture or something that would be worth more to the DM. But he would take her money in a second. And then call the DM in the next second.

      • mightymolly says:

He could have had a relationship with her and her husband and her children, and she probably would have helped him out financially, but he threw that all away in pursuit of a bigger pay day, being the insider on her rather than being her loving father. I know we can’t explain toxic personality disorders, but that logic is truly bewildering.

    • bisynaptic says:

He briefly (in an interview with Australian Sky News) let the cat out of the bag that he was in communication with a representative of “the royal family” (whom we suspect is Jason Knauf), colluding to stop the wedding. He might have gotten paid, he didn’t say. But, he was probably promised something he didn’t get, because he explicitly said they owed him (though he didn’t say what). That segment got cut from the ‘net, quite quickly.

      • mightymolly says:

I think a few things are true here:
        1. He’s obsessed with Meghan.

        2. His marriage to Dora fell apart because after putting on a charming front and marrying a woman in a different ball park out of his league, his colonial mindset revealed itself and she bolted.

        3. He was a dotting father to Meghan because he expected a lifetime of her deference to him.

        4. Meghan really tried to show her appreciation to him and did give him money when she was on rise in Hollywood.

        5. Her marriage into the BRF threatened him because he was going to lose all control over her, so he was happy to collude with them in foiling the marriage.

I honestly don’t know what his involvement in her first marriage was. Did he feel threatened by her first husband or did he see dollar signs?

    • Calliope says:

It sounds like he’s a narcissist and just wants to be the center of attention. I don’t think he went to her first wedding. I imagine it’s partly because his daughter would be the center of attention, and he can’t have that.

And I just saw another comment about his “colonial mindset” reasserting itself and, whew, I think it’s exactly it. Partly it’s his daughter doing so well and he wants to interfere and destroy AND it’s his black daughter.

I often think people bond over shared baggage and Meghan & Harry both have absolutely shitty fathers, it’s fascinating.

  22. Lady Digby says:

Commentators familiar with postoperative care observed that early stump assessments often take place over several days, not immediately, which raised questions about how a patient described as critical in intensive care could transition so quickly into a coordinated media interview complete with staged images.

Public confusion deepened when Thomas Markle Jr. released a YouTube video claiming his father’s leg turned black at home and that he rushed him to the hospital in an ambulance. His account conflicted with the idea of a sudden crisis. Graham’s reporting described a planned operation, yet she informed the son of the situation despite his role as primary caregiver.
None of this makes sense. TM looks very well in current photos in the Fail. He must have marvellous powers of recuperation!

  23. aquarius64 says:

This caper has blown up in the Fail and Bad Dad’s faces like an ACME dynamite kit does on Wil E. Coyote. These geniuses just provided ammunition for Harry’s attorneys to use against the Fail in court next month. Kudos for Meghan’s team to check out the story, sending a message that they will challenge a lie the Markles will put out immediately; and the parent company of the Fail hollered like a hit dog denying controlling Toxic Tom but admitting his handler has his phone. Graham has aided and abetted this estrangement for 7 years and now it’s coming back to bite her and the rag. Apparantlynshe was named in Harry’s lawsuit.

    • Lady Digby says:

Disclosures in the Mail litigation name Caroline Graham in allegations related to unlawful information gathering. The documents describe how she allegedly instructed private investigators who obtained sensitive data, including residential records and itemised phone information. Judges allowed several of these amendments to proceed. The case materials also list a number of other journalists connected to royal reporting, including Rebecca English, Katie Nicholl, Victoria Newton, Alison Boshoff, Charlotte Griffiths and Clemmie Moodie.

      • jais says:

It’s wild to see this list of reporters that have been named in the DM case. Bc all of them have been writing about the sussexes for years. It should be a conflict of interest for all of them. The worst case scenario is for Harry to go to trial and win. As of now, nothing’s proven but if he wins his case, that would be a mark on all of them. Not to mention Caroline Graham who is hijacking TM’s phone and posing with him in pictures.

    • bisynaptic says:

      ❤️

  24. L4Frimaire says:

So basically Caroline Graham and the Daily Fail are calling the shots and controlling access to Markle and his communications. They’re not satisfied with the email because they can’t publish it or even disclose the contents without legal repercussions. Why wouldn’t they just say what hospital he’s in? Why are they insisting on Meghan calling? So they can record and distribute it. Why hasn’t a social worker or hospital staffer reached out? Where is Markle actually at now? I think at this point the Sussexes need to use local legal authorities over there to get any further information because there is something really weird and suspicious about this situation. It’s giving both elder abuse and scam.

  25. yellow says:

Wait, are Caroline Graham and Thomas Markle fucking?

    • jais says:

People have been wondering that due to their closeness. So she made sure to say that TM is like a father figure to her. But that doesn’t mean anything. Who’s to say. She’s developed a years long relationship with this man while profiting off of getting stories from him, in the hope of getting insider dirt on Meghan. So to me, she’s despicable enough that anything is possible. And also she is now the one who should be responsible for caring for Thomas Markle through sickness and old age.

  26. Jay says:

It’s unfortunate for Ms. Graham that this story is happening at the same time as Olivia Nuzzi and her writing about her close relationship to one of her interview subjects, because I see this and I am skeeved.

WTF is with this ridiculous trap for Meghan? It reminds me of some of the more harebrained schemes of the CIA in the 1960’s, but even dumber. Apparently the DM has learned nothing from their earlier publication of Meghan’s letters and emails and are just going right back to the well again.

    • QuiteContrary says:

Yeah, this is suss as hell.

“A spokesperson for DMG Media, which owns the Mail on Sunday, said: ‘Our journalist, Caroline Graham, has had a close relationship with Mr Markle since 2018. He contacted Ms Graham when he was taken ill and asked her to travel to the Philippines to be with him.'”

Journalists are not supposed to have close relationships with sources.

  27. aquarius64 says:

Phillipine law states a phone call can’t be recorded without both parties consenting. Meghan and Bad Dad have to agree. Graham and the Fail are hoping Meghan doesn’t know the local law but I imagine she and her team are reaching out to local officials maybe the US ambassassor to the Phillipines to get a handle.

    • Lady Digby says:

Thank you for that explanation. The Fail are reporting today that
On Monday two representatives from the US consulate in Cebu – the city in the Philippines that Mr Markle moved to in January of this year – turned up in Mr Markle’s hospital room.

Consular agent Glenn Ivan Loop said the US Embassy in the Philippine capital city of Manila had requested they visit Mr Markle but declined to give further details.

He asked Mr Markle to make a list of people he authorized to receive health and wellbeing updates from the US Embassy
This is a safe way for Meghan to get updates on TM but it would defeat his plan to force her to phone him so he’ll nix that option!!

      • Elly says:

Oh wow, I don’t even know what to say! It’s shocking that the situation spiraled to this level but it’s good that Meghan will get legitimate information without being forced to communicate through Caroline Graham/Daily Mail. He’s still her father and I think a lot of us who have had a family member in the hospital can relate to wanting information about their wellbeing regardless of the current relationship.

      • NoBS Please says:

What a clever move from Meghan’s team to go through the US Embassy, and bypass the Daily Fail!

        They must be *pissed*

      • one of the marys says:

He is an American citizen so perhaps this is the equivalent of a welfare check, checking that he is competent and not the victim of elder abuse. Interesting development.

      • what's inside says:

This right here. The Daily Fail is demonstrating that they are an international terrorist organization and not above coercing a demented old man, possibly even to the level of kidnapping and holding him hostage. The FBI should be involved as well as the U.S. government in protecting their citizens.

      • aquarius64 says:

If Bad Dad refuses to give details to the US government it annoinces to the world this latest hospitalization claim is a tabloid fueled scam.

  28. ChillinginDC says:

This has been hilarious because of the VF mess that everyone is like why is a journalist over there and why does Meghan need to call her to get to her father. She was smart and it 100 percent again looks like the outwitted these fools. I don’t blame her for not talking to him on a phone. I would never do so. Here’s an email. Cause I am sure she has markings on it that it is private and he can’t publish it at all. What a terrible man.

  29. IdlesAtCranky says:

I still believe that most people in this life of ours are decent. Loving, generous, willing to help others when they can, just trying to do their best for their loved ones.

But I look at stories like this, and the actions of so many both in and out of the public eye who are clearly not good people, and it just makes me wonder, am I just naive? Are most people really horrible after all?

Mr. Markle has been a terrible father for years, who knows how long really? Graham and everyone at the Fail only want to profit off pain they cause others.

There are so many out there who treat everyone around them like trash, who want what they can grab for themselves and actively want to see others come to harm. It’s scary, and it’s heartbreaking.

    • Elly says:

Yes, I agree it’s horrible when people profit off of other’s pain. A few weeks ago I asked ChatGPT who benefited most from stories about H&M. It said the British tabloids benefited the most. It also said that people are much more likely to respond to a negative story. That’s the tabloid’s motive for their continuing persecution of H&M. I find that very disturbing and depressing.

  30. Elly says:

Anyone who has a toxic, manipulative family member can recognize these tactics but this situation takes it to another level. A tabloid reporter embedded with her father? They won’t tell her which hospital her father is in? The supposed hospital announcing that Meghan hasn’t called? Having a family member in the hospital is an upsetting and emotional experience. This is really harassment and abuse. I agree that she shouldn’t call. They can make up lies about what was said. If he doesn’t have a current email address then I would send a card and/or flowers to the hospital. Except, they won’t tell her which hospital! He can’t have gone from ICU one day to discharge the next so where is he?

  31. Lady Digby says:

In 2018 Meghan and Harry were desperate to contact TM by phone the week of their wedding. He switched off his phone to them to instead give paid Updates to TMZ each time he changed his mind about attending the wedding. Meg and Harry were trying to speak to him to find out what was going on with him . They eventually received a text about a heart attack and then a horrible, horrible text which was so nasty they redoubled their efforts to speak to him because they couldn’t be sure who was texting them. He continued with radio silence until the wedding happened and since then has regularly done nasty interviews, a documentary and a YT show. Endless thrashing them both whilst pretending injured innocence and victimhood. He claims to have made one mistake: the pap shots. Meghan wrote him a 5 page letter telling exactly how she felt about his non stop betrayal. She washed her hands of him because of a continual betrayal of her love, trust and respect. She won’t be exposing herself, Harry, Doria and two young children to such gross and cruel betrayal by him after such a campaign of denigration. The Fail and TM are hand in glove and conniving at causing Meghan and Harry as much stress as possible. Absolutely shameless.

What about his other daughter? Has SHE reached out? What about his extended family? Lol such a ridiculous story

    • bluhare says:

Meghan has found a way around the Fail and Toxic Tom and the 1/2 sibs. Well played.

    • Little Red says:

      F’ng brilliant!

    • s808 says:

      very smart. checkmate.

    • Jay says:

I’m happy for Meghan that she and her team have found ways to outsmart this toxic man and the exploitive British press.

The speed of her team’s reaction makes me wonder if they already had plans in place for just this scenario. Unfortunately, the old “health scare” is a common ploy from narcissists and he’s run it at least once before. It’s painful to imagine, but it would not surprise me if the Sussex comms team got together in a war room and ran through the worst possibilities they could think of and had a plan ready and waiting.

    • samipup says:

Well played. When you are able to use resources to help, go for it. Nice and tidy and very smart.

  35. LynZ says:

I’m not even sure there was any amputation. At best maybe he had an ingrown toenail removed. From the start, this reeked of manipulation by both the DM and TM. If any of this is true why wouldn’t TM let Meghan know the hospital. This is just like the phony “heart attack” story surrounding the wedding. I hope Meghan’s people find the truth and post it all over social media.

  36. JJ says:

This man has other family, and you would think he has friends, but he has a Daily Mail reporter travel to the Philippines to be with him, and he is conducting interviews from his sickbed? This whole situation is unusual, and Meghan is right to contact hospitals to find out what’s really going on. I’m glad she is making these wise moves because the Mail seems to want to get her to mess up, react emotionally, and abuse her based on her emotional reaction. The fact is, they should be talking about Meghan’s successes last week not this Thomas mess because what other celebrity’s parent do we know personal health details about because they have a reporter by their bedside? It’s sick!

  37. Eowyn says:

Imagine having to request a US embassy intervene on communication with your narcissistic father. That must really hurt.

  38. Aimee says:

Poor Meghan. My father is also a shady figure and it has been difficult for me and my mom so I can only imagine how awful it is to experience a though situation so publicly.

  39. paintybox says:

He does not deserve a relationship with Meghan. He’s shown over and over again that he’s in cahoots with the tabloids and not to be trusted. Syke-o and others should stop trying to humiliate her into letting her toxic dad back into her life again. They only want this because they will have a field day abusing her over every action or non-action with full assistance from her traitor father. He forfeits the relationship when he betrays her and lies about her and talks trash about her to tabloids. That ship sailed. She tried. Don’t, Meghan. All their b.s. about trying to shame her for avoiding him, it’s just sick.

  40. aquarius64 says:

It’s a crime for US citizens or anyone to lie to US consulate officials under the Federal False Statements Statute. That includes providing fake documents. If Tom Sr or Jr lie to federal officials they could be charged.
