Mail: Princess Kate refused to meet then-Meghan Markle for months

This summer will be the tenth anniversary of Prince Harry’s first date with then-Meghan Markle. He wrote about it in detail in Spare, how he saw Meghan on social media and everything in his world stopped when he saw her face. He knew Meghan was the One very early on and he was basically all-in from their first meeting. In retrospect, Harry’s discovery of his soulmate was “the thing” which caused all of the drama and angst within the institution. It wasn’t Meghan in particular, it was the fact that Harry was so in love, that it was a transformative love, that he would do anything for Meghan, even if it meant taking her far away from his racist family. Harry and Meghan made everyone else look bad, especially the other brother and the other brother’s wife. Harry would walk through fire for Meghan – William wouldn’t even shoulder some blame publicly for a poorly Photoshopped Mother’s Day image when his wife was being treated for cancer. Well, speaking of, the Daily Mail has yet another “The Mail Remembers” piece, this one about what happened when Meghan and Kate first met. Clock the tea about the timeline of William’s fury over Harry’s relationship.

Before he left his royal duties behind, Prince Harry once shared an incredibly close bond with Kate Middleton and fondly described her as ‘the big sister I never had’. So when he fell head over heels for former Suits star Meghan Markle in the summer of 2016, it was unsurprising that Harry, now 41, was eager to introduce Kate to his new American beau. Yet Kate repeatedly ‘side-stepped’ Prince William and Harry’s efforts to introduce her to Meghan, now 44, according to royal author Christopher Andersen.

Her ‘initial reluctance’ did, however, ‘come from a good place,’ claimed a close friend of the then-Duchess of Cambridge, who first met Kate while they were both students at Marlborough College.

‘She’s always been a substitute big sister to Harry, watching out for him and making certain no one takes advantage. I think she was a little frightened by what she was reading,’ the friend allegedly explained. The princess’s reservations were perhaps due to her husband’s alleged doubts and apprehension about his brother’s whirlwind romance, the royal author added.

‘William worried aloud that things were moving too fast. Meghan had secured a degree of control over his brother that no other woman ever had,’ wrote Mr Andersen in his book, Brothers And Wives. ‘Harry was on the defensive whenever the subject of Meghan came up, leaving friends and family alike on tenterhooks,’ he added.

Indeed, according to the royal author, the prince once became so enraged when he learnt that one of his long-time Eton friends had made a ‘crude’ joke about Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, that he ‘cut him off for good’.

‘Not even his closest friends were immune from Harry’s wrath when it came to Meghan,’ noted the royal author.

Yet Kate’s initial resistance at meeting the woman who had captured Harry’s heart did not last long. On January 10, 2017, Harry took Meghan to the Cambridge’s Kensington Palace residence at Apartment 1A to meet Kate. Any initial anxieties or concerns about their blossoming romance was seemingly put to one side, as the princess was said to have warmly embraced Meghan with a hug when they arrived at the four-bedroom property.

Meghan, meanwhile, was keen to make a good first impression – and surprised Kate with a $295 Smythson Portobello notebook as a belated birthday gift, while also taking the time to play with then one-year-old Princess Charlotte. While it lasted less than an hour, the informal meeting between the two women was said to have been a resounding success on all accounts.

[From The Daily Mail]

Harry also wrote about taking Meghan over to Will and Kate’s Kensington Palace apartment, and Kate refused to go and meet Meghan, and William kept Harry and Meghan in the foyer, basically. Harry wanted to introduce Meghan and Kate then but Kate had some excuse. Of course, Harry also wrote that William and Kate were very familiar with Meghan already because they were fans of Suits. That, more than anything else, was probably the reason why Kate had her panties in a twist. Meghan was a beautiful actress on one of William’s favorite shows, and Kate was just sick about it. As for the timeline of everything – they’re basically saying that Kate refused to meet Meghan because of what the racist tabloids were writing about Meghan in the fall of 2016? And because William was irate over Harry’s relationship? Yikes. None of this makes William and Kate sound good or healthy.

  1. First comment says:

“She’s always been a substitute big sister to Harry, watching out for him…” a sister who hadn’t invited him at KP ? According to Harry, there were little interaction between him and the Cambridge couple..why are they trying to rewrite history? And Meghan gave her as present an expensive notebook for her birthday…the waste…I doubt Kate ever used one …oh, I remember! She did have a notebook during her project of early years.. was that the one?

    • Tessa says:

Keen was jealous. Scooter did not treat her well. She also sees other women as rivals.

    • Tessa says:

Substitute big sister. Really. A big sister would support her brother and not be nasty to his wife.

      • BeanieBean says:

Apparently you haven’t seen Real Housewives of New Jersey! 😉

      • Mac says:

As much as the media liked to paint Kate and Pippa as the most supportive sisters ever, I think there was a fierce competition between them and Kate sees all other women as competitors as a result. She and William both need therapy to unwind their childhood trauma and hang ups.

    • Kittenmom says:

In Waity’s defense – if it didn’t say “notebook” on the cover, she probably wouldn’t know what to do with it.

    • Ginger says:

Kate is desperate to paint herself as a close confidant to Harry but Harry has repeatedly said he wasn’t close to Will and Kate. KP wants to act like the world hasn’t read Spare. Kate has always been a non factor to Harry.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Kate watched out for Harry? As if a combat veteran needed the protection of a silly goose like his sister-in-law. 🤣

      • Becks1 says:

It makes me laugh too bc the implication is that she was watching out for him to protect him from gold diggers who were only interested in him because of his status…….kind of like how she was only interested in William because of his status.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate would be the best person to spot a gold digger because it takes one to know one.

      • Tessa says:

Keen wanted harry to be third wheel. She wanted to be center of attention imo

      • Tessa says:

Keen would rush over to discourage other women from coming on to scooter. She pretended to be scoots girlfriend and scoot thanked her. This was in several biographies of keen.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

Any gold digger who caught Harry would soon find herself living in a hovel and shopping at TJ Maxx.

    • SarahLee says:

Also, taking this at face value – that she shared William’s concerns that Harry was moving too fast – the best thing to do is meet Meghan and take the temperature yourself. She didn’t do that. She just was rude.

      • Tessa says:

It is interesting that the keens did not say peter phillips is moving too fast with Harriet. They only dated a year before they got engaged after all. Or Edo and Beatrice dating when he had an ex fiancee who had their baby .. The rules of keens only apply to harry and Meghan.

    • Nic919 says:

Big sisters don’t openly flirt with their brothers and hang off them like Kate tried to. She wanted all the princes to want her and even though Harry complained that she had crossed lines when she barged into his room at Clarence House, she still didn’t stop.

Kate was trying to mark Harry as her territory and he was having none of it. And once it was clear that Meghan was Harry’s choice, Kate acted like a jealous woman and was mean to Meghan from day one.

      • Chrissy says:

This! Harry most likely treated her more kindly and respectfully than William ever did as he was as still looking for a better option than Cannot throughout their 10 year “love story”. Willnot was a very reluctant boyfriend who settled for her in the end. Hardly a love story for the ages!

  2. Tessa says:

    Harry has the real story.

    • DeeDee says:

This was ten years ago. There is no ‘real’ story. Why can’t people move on?

    • Tessa says:

That is why harry wrote spare. These tab writers try to change the past

      • DeeDee says:

Exactly. Harry wrote Spare and gave his account. Who cares what a tabloid says now? This is what celebrities mean when they say sometimes the stories are so stupid you have to laugh.

    • WaterDragon says:

I still want to know more about Keen’s “lack of Easter presents” snit. Is that even a thing? I have never heard of adults exchanging Easter presents routinely.

      • BeanieBean says:

Outside of the Romanovs, I’ve never heard of it either.

      • jais says:

Listen, my dream is for someone, not the Sussexes, but someone to send Kate a gift box trio of asever jams for her Easter present. As in, ya wanted an easter present so bad, well, here ya go.

      • Tarte Au Citron says:

Not a thing for adults in my country. If you were visiting someone that Easter weekend, you’d bring chocolate Easter eggs for the kids for sure. Maybe a nicer egg or some wine for the parents/adults.
How much of that was Kate internalising that seasonal events should always be monetised, due to Party Pieces though.

I remember that passage in Spare, and it really made Kate sound like she had icicles stuck up where the sun don’t shine.

      • DeeDee says:

Was this in Spare? I’ve never heard about an Easter snit and quite frankly, don’t need to. I find 2026 Kate uninteresting and I’ll leave it at that.

  3. Is that so? says:

They write this like it’s a flaw. LOL

“ Indeed, according to the royal author, the prince once became so enraged when he learnt that one of his long-time Eton friends had made a ‘crude’ joke about Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, that he ‘cut him off for good’.”

    • Jay says:

Yeah, obviously this source assumes that you shouldn’t defend your potential mother-in-law from racist remarks. At least, not ones from your posh Eton classmates! Those you should just politely laugh at, I guess.

      Really telling, huh?

      • Smart&Messy says:

And it’s not just about Doria. If they made racist remarks about Doria, then that applies to Meghan too. But of course Harry should have just laughed it off like Peg does when they insult Kate and her family. I’m sure they still look down on the Midds.

    • ABritGuest says:

I know! It’s so funny how they try to make Harry standing up for his MIL a bad thing. Says more about the writer frankly or clearly they don’t think Doria deserves defending

It’s like that fiction Tom bower wrote about Meghan pushing back against Harry Eton friends sexist etc jokes & people were responding on social media that it made her sound awesome. But clearly Bower’s fiction was aimed at a bigoted crowd

Anyway as for Kate even her fan girls like Rebecca English admitted that Kate & William weren’t welcoming to Meghan. English claims it’s because they didn’t trust Meghan… but they were the ones who leaked nasty lies about her to the press to drive her away.

The press want to hang on to their fan fiction about Harry & the Wales being a close knit trio at all costs so they can blame the ‘interloper’ (as Rebecca English called her in 2018) Meghan for ‘taking him away’ & so no blame is attributed to the perfect Wales.

    • Kittenmom says:

If any of my “long time friends” made a crude – and probably racist – joke about my mother-in-law, that person wouldn’t be a friend any longer. They think this makes *Harry* look bad? smh

    • Me at home says:

That stunned me, too. Harry is the good person here.

    • Becks1 says:

Yeah……someone does not look good in that scenario and its not Harry.

    • Jais says:

I can’t get over that detail. Uh, yeah, you better believe he cut off a friend for saying something vulgar about Doria, like wtf, obviously.

      • QuiteContrary says:

I can’t get over it either.

These people are gross and so completely racist and clueless that they don’t realize how disgusting they are.

    • Nic919 says:

They write this as a flaw because William did not ditch anyone despite their insults of both Kate and Carole Middleton. The doors to manual people should have all been ditched but William never did that because he didn’t actually care about his friends insulting his long time girlfriend and their family. He is still friends with these classist snots.

Meanwhile Harry respects his wife and his mother in law.

      • BeanieBean says:

Excellent point! I never thought about it that way, but you’re right; those Eton friends insulted Kate, her mom, &. her sister, and William said & did nothing. What a guy! 🤨

    • Inge says:

This the minimum of what a partner should do.

Yet Wills still friends with those who ridiculed Carole(if the doors to manual quote is to be beliebee)

    • Nuks says:

The reality probably is that Harry realized his friend was a POS and just decided to let the relationship drop. The same way you distance and slowly back away from someone who’s going down a weird path. That friend probably had other problems and Harry was smart to put some distance in between and the friend blames it on Megan instead of looking at his own behavior. Textbook, toxic defense.

    • DK says:

Yep, Harry is the hero for not putting up with trashy racist inbreds.

Simply being wealthy and attending Eton clearly does not mean a person has any class – at least not the kind of class the rest of the world outside of British aristos cares about.

  4. Sunniside up says:

Harry says she made an excuse, the wail says they hugged, who do I believe, the wail is famous for not telling the truth, so I believe Harry. It sounds more in character and I would believe him anyway.

    • HeatherC says:

I do kinda believe they hugged. But MEGHAN initiated it and the other one probably just stood there. So I guess Meghan hugged and the other one is trying to take credit for it.

      • Lawrenceville says:

But Harry who was there wrote in his memoir that Kate made excuses upon excuses so as not to meet with Meghan. So, now the Fail and Anderson know better than prince Harry? C’mon, let’s not insinuate Harry lied in his memoir, you know?
And the Harry considered Kate the sister he never had is all tabloid hogwash, Harry said they were never close!

      • Becks1 says:

The hug happened at Nottingham Cottage, the night W&K went over for dinner and Meghan was barefoot and in jeans and Kate was appalled. The hug did not seem to be reciprocal. That’s what Meghan was talking about in the docuseries – about how she expected a certain level of formality in public but did not expect that formality to carry over into private. And it did, for everyone from QEII to Kate. And that’s when Meghan talks about how she is a “hugger” and the British press lost their minds that she would dare to hug THE DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE!!!!!

The meeting at KP1A was the one where Kate was “out with the children” or something and couldn’t meet Meghan but William met her.

      • Jay says:

I don’t see a contradiction here, @lawrenceville – Harry told us that his brother and sister in law were unwelcoming to Meghan. He told us that Meghan was her warm self and tried to greet with hugs. I see this as yet more grudging confirmation of Harry’s memoir.

I picture Meghan going in for a warm embrace and Keen just standing stiffly with her arms locked at her sides, giving nothing. Then performatively “shuddering” afterwards once Meghan was gone.

      • Mtl.ex.pat says:

        @jay –
this is how I pictured it too. After I read Spare I remember thinking what a prissy, uptight, nouveau snob Kate seemed. All of it likely originating from insecurity, which is the worse kind of snob too.

      • Lawrenceville says:

Clarification: I meant that, what Harry wrote in his memoir is what happened, not the alternative version that the tabloids are pushing/saying to re-write history. Harry never said when he took his then girlfriend to Kensington palace KKKate welcomed her with a hug blah blah blah, which the tabloids are saying is what happened. The hug happened at the time Harry said it happened in the memoir. That’s what I meant in saying when one says we “believe that at KP when duchess Meg went in for a hug KKKate didn’t reciprocate”, it means we choose to believe the tabloid version, which actually never happened as the rats say it happened. Duchess Meg did not hut KKKate at KP.

      • sunniside up says:

If someone hugs you, not hugging back is horrible.

      • jais says:

I can believe there was some sort of a hug-type thing back but that it was very limp and lackluster.

    • Harla says:

Meghan did mention in the Netflix documentary that some Brit’s found hugging “jarring”, I always assumed that she was speaking about Kate.

      • Over it says:

I remember when Harry took Meghan over to meets the keens , and Harry asked where waity was, wank said out. Now look what we have here, wank lied, waity was acting her true jealous form and won’t come out of her brewing room to meet Meghan . All the tells me is that Willy is a liar and waity really is an uncultured, , rude , mannerless B .

  5. Amy Bee says:

Anybody writing about Harry and the Waleses relationship and when they met Meghan is not to believed or taken seriously. Harry wrote that that he, William and Kate were not close and mainly interacted on engagements. This account only makes William and Kate look bad, it undermines the Palace narrative that Meghan was welcomed with open arms and makes William and Kate look racist.

  6. He never had a close bond with Can’t. I’m wondering if this little piece is in retaliation for the “Queen Arise” bit of tat? Is someone putting out some naughty info on Can’t? My guess is yes. We knew Can’t was and is a mean girl and not what the embiggening articles want us to believe. So is this someone reminding her of what she has done?

  7. Louise177 says:

“Indeed, according to the royal author, the prince once became so enraged when he learnt that one of his long-time Eton friends had made a ‘crude’ joke about Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, that he ‘cut him off for good’. ‘Not even his closest friends were immune from Harry’s wrath when it came to Meghan,’ noted the royal author.”Sounds like the author is on the friend’s side. If my friends insulted my significant other and their family (especially when never have them), I would be mad too.

    • Tessa says:

Isn’t a,man supposed to get upset when his wife is trashed by his so called friends.

    • Bqm says:

Reportedly those same kinds of friends trashed Kate’s middle class upbringing and her mother being a stewardess and William never did jack. That’s been reported for years even by press sympathetic to the Waleses. No wonder they were stunned Harry wouldn’t have any of it.

      • Nic919 says:

The friends who made the doors to manual jokes are who William spends his time with to this day. There are zero stories of William cutting off classist friends to defend his wife’s honour. William is cool with these kinds of people.

      • Normal_Islander says:

William’s friends nicknamed Kate “The Mattress”. He still stood by them. And she still married him.

  8. Tessa says:

A whirlwind romance. Really. Harry and Meghan dated for two years before they got married. Keen had to wait years. Who is this friend of keen. Possibly Carole. Keen needed to mind her own business about harry.

    • Kittenmom says:

“Close friend” – that’s how we know this is fake news. The ice queen has no friends. This is totally more word vomit from Ma.

    • Christine says:

I love the way they all act like Harry and Meghan got married in Vegas after a long weekend, rather than a perfectly normal amount of time for any other couple. Sorry your dream man needed nearly a decade, Kate, but that is hardly Meghan’s fault.

  9. Miranda says:

“…when he learnt that one of his long-time Eton friends had made a ‘crude’ joke about Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, that he ‘cut him off for good’.”

By “crude”, they almost certainly mean “racist”, right? No doubt they believe that Harry should’ve just laughed along with those entitled assholes, as William did when his friends mocked Kate’s family.

    • sunniside up says:

People don’t need friends like that.

      • Miranda says:

Seriously. Why does it seem like the interpersonal relationships of the British upper class revolve entirely around pretension, scorn, and cruelty?

      • JudyB says:

They use pretension, scorn, and cruelty because the British class system is dying, albeit too slowly, and they no longer have any real power, so they act like idiots and bullies!

Most of the so-called “upper class” can no longer afford huge mansions and armies of servants, so many are forced to run their mansions like hotels and catering locations to pay for upkeep. Pretension, scorn, and cruelty is all they have left. Sad.

  10. Me at home says:

A quick google says Harry and Meghan’s first date was in July the year before. So Kate waited SIX MONTHS, reading the tabloids and listening to William rant, before finally meeting Harry’s girlfriend to form her own opinion and even give Meghan a chance?

    • Unblinkered says:

I’d say it was clear insecurity on KM’s part, she was in between pregnancies and likely didn’t want to feel inferior to Meghan.
Says everything about KM – vain, delusional and unpleasant.

  11. Chelsea says:

“Indeed, according to the royal author, the prince once became so enraged when he learnt that one of his long-time Eton friends had made a ‘crude’ joke about Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, that he ‘cut him off for good’.

‘Not even his closest friends were immune from Harry’s wrath when it came to Meghan,’ noted the royal author.”

Only a racist could say this and think it shows Harry as being irrational or hotheaded. Why tf would you keep someone in your life who is making crude “jokes” about the mother of the woman you love? If this was about Carole would they even think this would be worth mentioning as anything other than a point about how much William values his family? No. So why on earth is this being used to attack Harry for defending his future mother in law. Oh wait – we know why.

  12. Cathy says:

It seems like a game only Kate was playing?
‘I’ll make her wait, she’ll have to beg to meet me’
I can imagine that big event was similar to when William and Kate met the Zelenskyys? In an empty room, no drinks or food offered, nothing, just a shiny floor and … nothing.

  13. Royal Downfall Watcher says:

Imaging having your brother in law, bring over his GF of six months and you let him stand in the foyer and refuse to come down from your room? Like….not only is that low effort and weird but it’s also giving some mental illness.

    • Unblinkered says:

Like the time KM refused to come down from her room at KP when Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift were star guests at a dinner – long arranged – for the winter charity they were all meant to be representing. It’s over ten years ago, and the ridiculous excuse given then was that KM was looking after the children.

      • Becks1 says:

omg I have never heard that story. That’s bonkers if true. It really does make her seem unwell. I wonder if that’s why she skipped the Taylor Swift concert – not because of cancer treatments etc but because she didn’t want to be the less important woman in the room. (I’m not even a TS fan but we all know that if those two walk into a room together, one of them is going to get all the attention and its not Kate.)

      • Unblinkered says:

        Becks1 – link follows, hope it’s readable.
It was end of 2013, shocking that KM was being protected even then, but she was. The dinner couldn’t have been easier for her, walk downstairs at KP to one of their function rooms.

        https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/445303/Prince-William-rocks-out-to-Bon-Jovi-and-Taylor-Swift-in-aid-of-Centrepoint

      • Royal Downfall Watcher says:

Omg! I didn’t hear of this story. It REALLY does not paint her in a good light. How is she supposed to be the Keen Queen if she can’t even be bothered to meet famous musicians at a pre-planned event??

        Something is very wrong here.

      • Barb Mill says:

That story with Jon Bon Jovi makes William sound a bit fun and interesting and Taylor say William was very funny. Maybe he wanted to have fun so told Kate she couldn’t come even back then.

      • BeanieBean says:

Oh ho ho! Her name was even on the invitations & STILL she didn’t go! That recent Ascot no-show apparently wasn’t a one-off but rather typical of Kate.

      • Christine says:

I’m most struck by the fact that we’ve found an occasion where the Wales’ actually entertained in their own home! I bet this was a one and done.

  14. Jay says:

This definitely doesn’t make Keen look good, does it? She can dress it up as her pretending to act the “big sister” all she wants, but we all have eyes! This woman could not stand the thought of another woman entering the royal fold, particularly one that would take up Harry’s attention.

Someone who was truly worried about Harry being taken advantage of would want to meet Meghan as soon as possible in order to suss her out! Wouldn’t you?

Instead, it seems that Keen stalled as long as she possibly could, stewing and apparently consuming a lot of tabloid fiction about Meghan? That seems odd to me, because William and KP were the main sources of concern about Meghan at the time, although not nearly as awful as they later got. Why would Kate have to resort to reading and feeling “frightened” about Meghan when she could have just met her? And why would she have needed to read it anyway – she supposedly lived/lives with William, right?

    • Jais says:

Right? She was stewing and reading a lot of tabloid fiction. When that source said Kate was frightened over what she was reading, my mind instantly went to the fact that Kate obviosly read that Strait outta Compton headline, was “frightened” and refused to meet Meghan. They’re just making her sound more and more racist, jeez. Just like she had concerns about a baby’s skin color.

      • Tessa says:

Keen before Meghan came along was called out as lazy and during pre engagement wait y. But of course she believed all the negativity about meghan. She also complained to the tabs about their saying she used extensions plus she demanded t a t l e r rewrite and leave out the negative stuff written about her.she is hypocritical

      • Jay says:

For me, it’s the idea that she was reading the tabloids at all to get her info about Meghan. It demonstrates a really weird isolation. After all, wasn’t she part of the royal family at the time? She is/was married to the biggest source of Meghan- related gossip, William. The calls were coming from inside the house, so to speak! She (allegedly) lived with William. She lived right next to Harry and many other members of the family. She presumably owns a working phone.
So why was Keen reduced to reading the crap that William and his cronies fed to the rota?

It would be like if I chose to read all of the meeting minutes and boring memoranda of my husband’s company rather than simply asking him how his day was at work. It’s really odd behaviour.

      • jais says:

I’ve said this before but in one of Harry’s interviews, maybe with Anderson Cooper, he talked about how all the papers and tabloids were put on the table every morning for everyone to see the headlines. These people live and die by the headlines they see, which creates a very weird, isolated and artificial reality. But yeah, I can imagine she was also getting Information from William, none of it good. It’s just funny bc the timeline seems to be that William had an issue very early on. But what was his issue? I can’t imagine that he had even interacted with Meghan enough to have an idea of her. So it was something else. I’m sure it was many things but he knew Harry was gone for her and that would mean he had less influence over his minion and scapegoat.

    • Nic919 says:

Kate is not academically intelligent but she has a cunning when it comes to detecting women who are a threat to her position as the hottest woman in the room and Meghan with her charisma and beauty was a huge threat to Kate, who has nothing of substance to offer. Kate knew that Meghan attracts the attention of all the men in the room without even trying and she hated that.

The blind item about Kate refusing the give Meghan a ride to go shopping was definitely around this time. It was an early example showing how Kate was going to be the bitch sister in law jealous of the attention the new girlfriend was getting.

    • MSJ says:

      @Jay
I remember KP briefed the British media that Kate felt walking next to Meghan was the hardest thing she had to do in her life. I also remember Piers Morgan on his tv show named Kate as one of two racists in the Windsor family that had concerns about the skin color of the Sussex’s unborn first child.

    • bisynaptic says:

      🎯

  15. Smart&Messy says:

Off topic but what “four-bedroom property” within KP are they talking about? 1A is not 4 br, more like 4 stories.

  16. MsIam says:

But, but there was no racism! Meghan was welcomed with open arms! Meghan is Princess Pinocchio! I can’t with these lying mofos. Meghan is better than me because I would want to burn the whole thing down at this point. And they wonder why she would not even leave the airport when she flew through the UK. Bastards.

  17. Brassy Rebel says:

Rolling my eyes at the assertion that they were afraid of Meghan controlling Harry. No. They were afraid of losing control of Harry.

  18. Desert DIVA says:

I recently rewatched their Netflix series. Meghan said she worked hard and wanted to make the family proud. I just don’t thing the RF is capable of that. They aren’t designed that way. It’s birth order, not work and effort, that is truly valued. To hear again how they had the Sandringham ‘agreement’ and security was pulled weeks later just underlines their attempt to sabotage Harry and Meghan. She was not welcomed with open arms, not by a long shot.

    • Royal Downfall Watcher says:

You are spot on! Meghan undermined their value. They claim everything by order of birth whether it is deserving or not. And it has been clear for a long time that the wrong brother is going to be king, purely by accident of birth. That’s why they smeared Harry and Meghan. Bad enough Harry made William look terrible- having his wife outshine Keen was too much for them. They inadvertently shined a spotlight on how utterly worthless the Keen heirs are.

  19. kelleybelle says:

I find Kate’s character and actions more ugly by the day.

    • Beverley says:

Oh man! Every revelation shows her to be worse.

    • Nic919 says:

Kate and William are well suited in that they are both pretty despicable people.

    • Christine says:

Truly, the rota should pat themselves on the back. They have revealed William and Kate to be truly awful people. No wonder Kate doesn’t appear to have any friends, except for her mother, she must be insufferable.

  20. Harla says:

I’m wondering why the BM is reminding its readers about Kate’s racist behavior, are they yanking her chain? Trying to get under her skin a bit? All in all this article is not saying what Kate’s supporters are desperately trying to tell you it says, don’t trust your own eyes and all.

  21. MSJ says:

I see they are working overtime to clean up Kate’s image with their royal propaganda to dispel her aloofness from inception towards Meghan.

“Any initial anxieties or concerns about their blossoming romance was seemingly put to one side, as the princess was said to have warmly embraced Meghan with a hug when they arrived at the four-bedroom property.”

The unnamed royal sources (unnamed ‘insiders’ or unnamed ‘friends’) and their royal media partners are not reliable. They twist narratives (obfuscate or lie) to suit their agenda, particularly against the Sussexes. The Windsor Family (Wales, Yorks, etc.), The Firm, is head of a British establishment intent on maintaining the British class structure that benefits them socially and economically. Harry in his own words, written and spoken, has exposed their tactics and I’m now very aware of them and their efforts to repair the Windsor brand since he has exposed to the world what a cold life it is behind the curtains. The Windsors are a toxic dysfunctional royal ‘mafia’ family. Kate integrated herself well with the family and perpetuated the same aloofness towards Meghan. 🤷‍♀️ I also remember KP briefed the British media that Kate felt walking next to Meghan was the hardest thing she had to do in her life. I also remember Piers Morgan on his tv show named Kate as one of two racists in the Windsor family that had concerns about the skin color of the Sussex’s unborn first child.

Regarding their experiences in the royal family, I still rely on what Harry and Meghan have shared (first hand accounts, no unnamed sources) via the Oprah interview, Harry and Meghan docu-series and Spare book for truth about how he and Meghan were treated by Kate and William.

    • Becks1 says:

This is a side note, but its interesting that they describe 1A as a four bedroom property. It definitely has more than 4 bedrooms. Its like they’re either confusing it with Adelaide or they’re deliberately trying to downplay how big 1A actually is.

      • MSJ says:

        @Becks1
Lies and obfuscations, par for the course. They do it with ease.

      • StarWonderful says:

It’s the latter. Obfuscation or confusion when it comes to the facts…It’s all about rewriting history.

      • Magdalena says:

Exactly this. They’re trying to downplay how huge the KP place is. They lie and contradict themselves so much that NOTHING they say can be taken at face value. Aaaand… isn’t it interesting how all of a sudden Kate is said to have hugged Meghan warmly, when Harry already told us how they recoiled? They are STILL trying to create an alternate narrative to Harry’s definitive account, while taking pains to avoid saying that he lied, because they fear being sued or called out by the Prince. 😀

      • Nic919 says:

There have been diagrams of Apt 1A and it is at least two floors and takes up about a quarter of the palace building. There may be four bedrooms but they aren’t including all the other rooms. After there we know there are two kitchens since Kate had to renovate them more than once. Plus there are public rooms and private rooms.

    • kelleybelle says:

Kate did not hug Meghan. KP even put out BS that “Kate is a hugger” because of the truths that came out in Spare. Please, the pathetic lies are beyond schoolyard crap.

      • MSJ says:

        Exactly 🎯 @Kelleybelle

No hugs from Kate… they are trying to rewrite history. 😂 Kate was not welcoming of Meghan. She was aloof and haughty, expecting deference from Meghan.

KP briefed the British media that Kate felt walking next to Meghan was the hardest thing she had to do in her life and Piers Morgan on his tv show named Kate as one of two racists in the Windsor family that had concerns about the skin color of the Sussex’s unborn first child.

Kate did not like Meghan, Kate does not like Meghan, Kate will not like Meghan. The British media will try to rewrite Kate’s character until the end of time but the North remembers her behavior towards Meghan and the lies leaked and briefed to the media to damage Meghan’s image and credibility. I remember and will continue to highlight Kate’s treatment of Meghan as described first hand by the Sussexes.

  22. Nic919 says:

Wondering if this article is part of the new crisis manager campaign. It targets Kate and makes it obvious that Kate was being a bitch to Meghan over petty jealousy.
I suspect we will see more articles placing Kate as the main reason why Harry and Meghan ultimately had to leave the family.

    • Mtl.ex.pat says:

      Hmmmm interesting!

    • MSJ says:

      @Nic919
I think they were trying to help Kate with the article by explaining her aloofness towards Meghan as concern for Harry but Kaiser captured the underlying tenet of Kate’s position towards Meghan, her aloofness, with the headline ‘MAIL: PRINCESS KATE REFUSED TO MEET THEN-MEGHAN MARKLE FOR MONTHS’.

The key word is ‘REFUSED’. 👀

      • Emptynester says:

William knows he has lost the pr campaign against his brother and SIL and looks bad. IMO this is an attempt to turn the table and begin blaming Kate and her jealousy for all this racist and ill-mannered behavior.

      • MSJ says:

        @Emptynester

I still believe that this was one of a series of 44th birthday PR articles from people in Kate’s camp. Kate was not warm towards Meghan when they met.

Whether it’s a PR push from Kate’s on behalf of Kate or a PR push on behalf of William, it’s dead on arrival because Kate’s dislike of Meghan from inception is well documented.

      • Christine says:

Is this the first time any of the British media has admitted that her name isn’t Meghan Markle anymore?

    • Lucy says:

Yes, that’s the bus with Kate’s name on it backing down the road, idling so it’s ready for another chance at running her down.

  23. Sharon says:

Harry met his soul mate in his 30’s, he wasn’t a young lad of 16 having his first crush. There was no valid reason to be worried about the love Harry was expressing. The family are a bunch of upper class snobs who only wanted him to marry an English girl just like Kate. They all looked down their noses at Meghan before even meeting her, though I think QE really did like her. There is no way stiff & cold Kate warmly hugged Meghan lol. They thought Meghan was “lesser than” and beneath them. It’s plain as day. They couldn’t accept that Harry chose someone completely different from them. Then they closed rank on him, to punish him.

    • Nic919 says:

Let’s not forget she’s racist so that was an issue for Kate too.

    • FrenchLadyJuliet says:

OMG So very well said !!! You just nailed it.

I’ll add that when Meghan began to WORK , some of the staff (not all obviously but some) looked down their noses at Meghan too. Those who were at the top and had total control because Kate and William rarely showed up at the office… they see this “outsider” come in, who has ideas, who asks some tasks from the staff, who is a natural leader, a leader like a “principal” is supposed to. Oh they were NOT happy. “Who does she think she is ?”

    • FrenchLadyJuliet says:

QE recognized the WORK and TALENT of Meghan. And of Harry by the way.

It’s so disappointing that she had such a blind spot when it came to Andrew.

  24. QuiteContrary says:

Harry stood up for Meghan and her mom because he’s the only decent member of his family and he is completely in love with Meghan.

I’m guessing all of that was too much for Kate, who’s treated like garbage by her own husband. Plus, she knew William had a crush on Meghan.

If she had even an iota of sense and self-esteem, she would made Meghan an ally and demanded better treatment from William. But she was far too weak and insecure.

    • Royal Downfall Watcher says:

I’ve always suspected William had a crush on Meghan and made a pass at her. That’s why Harry was so mad and Kate so jealous.

      • Magdalena says:

In one of the Mail’s throwback series about the women who William “could have” married that they run from time to time, they mentioned that one of the well-connected women who had rejected his advances had been turned off by his entitled, boorish behaviour. Apparently he used to go around boasting that he was the future king (that was his pickup line), but worse than that, he had apparently LUNGED at her and tried to kiss her pretting much within moments of meeting her. She was shocked and appalled. I recall gasping at that word “lunged”. Later, there was an article implying that something similar had happened with Kate. Stories about incidents which other people have experienced have long been co-opted for the benefit of William and Kate. Hmm.

However, I do think that William made a pass at M and that it was a violent one and that’s why Harry said “space” when it came to his relationship with his brother. Possible more than one pass. AND said some disgusting things to her. That “space” wasn’t just about discovering how William’s handlers had weaponised the British media against his pregnant wife. No wonder he couldn’t eat or sleep when he heard that they had spoken to Oprah. And no wonder he keeps trying to destroy his brother and his brother’s wife. Jealousy is a powerful emotion.

  25. Over it says:

As long as I live, I will always believe that Kate hates Meghan because Kate was and still has a thing for Harry she thought both brothers were hers she wanted Willy so her and her mom could become queen mom and queen and Harry because he acknowledged that she exsited because willy always been ignoring her and treating her like a used tissue. Wank on the other hand wanted Meghan because he thought I am the future king and whatever I want or desire, I should have because I am willy the petulance, man baby and my little brother should never have anything or anyone better than me. Willy was big mad that Meghan did not give a flying fig about him or his upcoming big hat . She only had the hots for her ginger Prince . Kate saw and had to hear Willy go on and on about Meghan and her looks and she became enraged with jealousy. Well that’s their problem. As the saying goes , don’t hate me because I am beautiful. And Kaiser is absolutely correct, this makes Willy and kitty look absolutely horrible.

  26. Lady Digby says:

Spare sadly revealed that long before Meghan, Harry wasn’t included in Will and Kate’s domestic life. Will and Kate are very controlling and not generous with themselves. Neither are sharers: they expect to be fawned on and bowed to and don’t expect to meet anyone half way. Not inclusive or welcoming under the best of circumstances : despite having an over abundance of material wealth and power they are riddled with jealousy and insecurity. They were both unable to see Harry or Meghan outside the prism of how does this lesser being serve or threaten my best interests?! Everybody else exists to serve them as subject and serf. Meghan gave them a reality check when she demonstrated self worth and helped open Harry’s eyes to how awful Will and Kate were treating them.

  27. Bex says:

I think this doesn’t sound awful? Except for the part where they act surprised that Harry would cut off that friend who made the comment about Doria. Of course he would and that’s the right thing to do! Even if she hadn’t become his mother-in-law she is a nice person who doesn’t deserve that! No one does. And if Harry had been okay with that it would have said a lot about his character too. I’m glad he stuck to his morals about that.

As for the rest maybe Kate was apprehensive but it doesn’t mean she was jealous or hated Meghan (maybe especially not at that point) but maybe she let certain connects get to her or worry her. Also, she had small children at that point and she was busy a lot. It sounds like, ultimately, when she met Meghan it went well and it wasn’t until later on that the relationship changed or was affected by others. I don’t know I wouldn’t jump to judging her or accusing her at this point.

    • Tessa says:

Keen had a,lot of help with the children including her mother. The possibility that keen felt apprehensive about Meghan. The woman harry fell in love with and she with him caused keen anxiety seems odd to me if this were the case

    • Beverley says:

KKKhate is a mean girl racist.
      Period.

      • Unblinkered says:

@Bex – sorry, but everything points the other way and KM does not come out of it well. Her behaviour at that point screamed jealousy, screamed insecurity and resentment. Her first meeting with Meghan she turned up dressed to the nines, Ascot level dressing all that was missing was a hat! To interpret KM’s actions any other way is daft: she was horrid, story ends.

    • Nic919 says:

Even if we take this interpretation which I don’t agree with, kate then thought it was ok to put out a total lie about Meghan that would be used as a basis to create a smear campaign while leveraging racism against her own sister in law. Which to this day she has never recanted even though we know Meghan was suicidal at one point.

That’s evil. It just is. Kate is not any different than other sociopaths like Vance.

    • jais says:

Except this article doesn’t say that maybe Kate felt apprehensive. That’s not what it says at all. It strait up says she felt “frightened” due to what she was reading in the freaking tabloids, which at the time were so racist that Harry had to put out a freaking statement. That’s wild. She put off meeting a woman her supposed beloved brother in law was crazy about bc the tabloids said she was straight outta Compton and she felt “frightened.” Like, I’m sorry but wtf. That does sound kinda awful. Now listen, this close friend source could have no idea but either way they sure as anything ain’t doing Kate any favors with this explanation. Maybe it’s totally made up by the writer but again they ain’t doing any favors with this take.

    • BeanieBean says:

But @Bex, it’s fiction! We know what happened when Kate finally deigned to meet Meghan & she sure as heck didn’t greet her with a warm hug at KP! They met at Nott Cot & Meghan hugged her not the other way around.

And KP has more than 4 bedrooms! That’s Adelaide the Wales supposedly crammed themselves into for a short bit.

      • MSJ says:

        @Beaniebean

        Exactly 🎯

They met for the first time at Nottingham Cottage and both William and Kate were ‘put off’ by Meghan’s hug and casual attire (ripped jeans and barefooted). They both expected deference from her. They expected her to doll up and curtsy to them.

The Sussexes did not hide behind unnamed sources, insiders or friends to tell us what happened while Meghan lived there. In their written and spoken words we were told what happened. Oprah Winfrey CBS interview (2021), Harry and Meghan Netflix docu-series (2022), Spare book (2023).

  28. TN Democrat says:

This is not the embiggening hit piece Will-not and/or Keener think it is. It is abnormal for a woman to function as an unemployed dormat for a decade to marry into a role she has no interest in fulfilling. She married will-not for his money and is willing to let him walk all over her for a bourgeois title and money. The fact that Will-not continues to smear Meghan and has attempted to derail is brother’s relationship for a decade is WEIRD. It is fascinating that the media has never called out the Wails’s dangerous fixation on Harry, especially given how Harry descibed his relationship with Keener and Will-not in Spare. Adults cut toxic, racist, sexist and homophobic people from their lives, especially when they are weird cultists. Weird how the rota go out of their way to justify racism and bullying in royal circles….

  29. BeanieBean says:

‘Meghan had secured a degree of control over his brother that no other woman ever had,’

Is this how they see women? As controllers of men? Pitiful. I feel for any women in their lives.

Oh, hang on a minute! ‘…Harry took Meghan to the Cambridge’s Kensington Palace residence at Apartment 1A to meet Kate…. when they arrived at the four-bedroom property.’

Apt 1A isn’t a ‘four-bedroom property’! That place spreads out over four levels! It’s got what? 30 rooms? Oh, h*ll no, Daily Fail! Nobody’s buying whatever fiction you’re trying to sell!

  30. Lucy says:

I’m surprised that the polo event hasn’t been brought up. It’s the event where Meghan showed up with new born Archie. Kate made no efforts to treat Meghan politely or showed any interest in Archie. She behaved without common decency or courtesy.

    • Blubb says:

She even prevented contact between the babies, who were curious enough.

      • Kat says:

I remember seeing that photo of the polo match party.Meghan with baby Archie were completely ignored by the sainted Catherine. She even deliberately prevented her children from having any contact with them.

      • Nic919 says:

Louis in particular wanted to see Archie but Kate distracted him with her sunglasses.
Kate is never living down the racist vibes.

  31. therese says:

Meghan was just beautiful, charismatic, warm and happy and outgoing. Then she opened her mouth and revealed herself as a double whammy: beautiful and smart. If baby Katie can’t host a two or three sentence boat christening without reading the prewritten sentences, if Kate can’t talk in public and can’t pronounce words, if public meetings with a First Lady have to be pulled because she can’t talk, can’t handle questions, can’t keep herself together, I think it is a perfectly reasonable deduction that she is awkward in social settings, even if there are no cameras. It is absolutely evident that she has no self-confidence. She is stupid, and many stupid people are mean, they have no resources. She is not loving and giving. I also remember an occasion when Harry and Meghan went back, were in church and going to sit in a church pew, and Wank had to pull Kate back because she was too dumb to realize that the Sussexes went first, and Harry was stone coldly ignoring her, even though she was looking at him. I also remember Meghan touching her hand, because she is just a sweet person.

  32. Monlette says:

I’m guessing Kate was upset because she’s a pick me girl and William was already cheating.

    • Amity says:

Oh totally. We all know Meghan was gentle with Kate as she was, quote, ” going through some things”. Meghan is/was far too gracious this this bumble-brained racist mean girl. There is no evolving with Kate. Unfortunately the media will be putting her on a pedestal for the rest of her days, that is, unless William decides to get a divorce and releases the hounds upon her.

  33. sunniside up says:

Kate was clearly judging Meghan by her own standards, we know that Kate gave up the opportunity to go to the university that she had dreamt of for years just to chase William, no wonder she thought that Meghan was doing the same.
