In July 2021, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis appeared on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. The three of them plus Dax’s co-host, Monica Padman, infamously discussed their bathing habits, or lack thereof. Much to Monica’s incredulousness, the three actors insisted that you don’t need to wash your entire body with soap. During that same conversation, Dax, Mila, and Ashton also admitted to only bathing their children when they get visibly dirty.
After that, Ashton and Mila became known as “dirty” celebrities. A month or so later, a crowd even chanted at Ashton to “take a shower” during a live ESPN appearance. I cannot believe that happened almost five years ago, but here we are. In fact, people are still bringing it up. During an interview with People about his new Ryan Murphy-helmed series The Beauty, Ashton once again commented on the rumors that they don’t shower and insisted that he does, in fact, bathe.
Years after Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis made viral comments about their family’s bathing habits, prompting speculation that they don’t shower, the Beauty star is setting the record straight.
While speaking to PEOPLE about how he physically prepared for his role as The Corporation on the FX body horror thriller from co-creator Ryan Murphy, the actor also addressed a 2021 interview on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.
As PEOPLE previously reported, Kunis, 42, said that growing up, she “didn’t shower very much” while Kutcher, 47, added that he cleans his “armpits and my crotch daily and nothing else ever” during the couple’s appearance on the show.
“It was the craziest thing of all time,” Kutcher tells PEOPLE now. “We made a comment at one point, and people were like, ‘Does he stink? Does he smell?’ ”
Turning to his costars Anthony Ramos and Jeremy Pope, who were also present for the conversation, he explains, “There was a comment on a podcast, so long ago… and people are like, ‘They don’t shower.’ I’m like, ‘I shower, I go to the gym, I shower.’ ”
Laughing, Ramos, 34, tells PEOPLE, “I can confirm my boy showers.”
Well, if Anthony Ramos says that Ashton showers, then it must be true! Sorry, a little sarcasm slipped through there. People think Ashton doesn’t shower because he and his wife literally talked about how they like to just splash a little water on certain body parts and call it a day. Mila just said, in an interview last month, ”Sometimes I shower and sometimes I don’t, and that’s OK. Sometimes I just have time to wipe my armpits.” Maybe some of the no shower stuff has been exaggerated by both them and the general public, but it’s not like this rumor just started out of nowhere. I’m glad to hear that Ashton at least showers after he goes to the gym. Let’s hope that shower includes his beloved Lever 2000 being applied to his entire body.

I find them…. rapist apologists- i just can’t.
But the showering thing seems overblown.
Weren’t their children little at the time?
In that, i asked one of my college girlfriends if she still shaved her legs everyday, now that she had 2 small children, she laughed and said she did still shave every time she got into the shower, but that she did not manage to shower every single day- working full time, commute, day care pick up, 2 kids under 4.
Just saying, yes, they should have been more nuanced in their explanation. But i think it is a lot of nothing.
I hate that dax sheppard has a voice in the world.
We could have done without that.
And why do we care about this dude’s and his family’s hygiene? Even if he mentions it himself?
