Christina Hendricks advice to the boobtastic: always show your waist

Christina Hendricks appears backstage at the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards

Oh, Stylelist has a new interview with my girl, Christina Hendricks. We haven’t seen her in a little while, not since her epic New York Magazine cover profile, where she was talking about how she never realized how curvy she was until people started telling her. Which I don’t believe, but whatever. I love that people love Christina. Sidenote: I’ve been obsessed with Mad Men since it started, and I finally got my mom into it a few months ago, and now she’s totally obsessed. My mom adores Christina most of all, calling her “Red” like Roger Sterling does.

Anyway, in this new interview Christina is still talking about fashion and her own body image. She’s still defending that Christian Siriano gown that she wore to the Golden Globes – the one that was massively criticized. And Christina is giving advice to all of the girls out there with large boobs (ME!). Her advice: “I’m pretty good about accessing something on the rack and knowing whether it’s going to be flattering on me or not. I always like to show my waistline. That’s something I think about when I get dressed.” So I misread that at first and I thought she said, “I’m pretty good at accessing something on my rack.” Which still works, honestly:

Though she’s been photographed wearing little black dresses for most of her recent appearances, curvy “Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks is not choosing the color for the reasons you’d imagine.

The fact that she turned to the dark side for both the Badgley Mischka fashion show and Elton John Academy Awards party last month, “is a coincidence,” Hendricks told StyleList at the Ann Taylor fall preview party, where she also wore, you guessed it, black.

“I was a dancer for many, many years, and I am constantly attracted to corals and peach and black — things that remind me of being a ballet dancer. To me, they’re classic and make me feel beautiful.”

But these are not the only hues the fiery redhead is drawn to. “I love dressing with bright splashes of color — bright pink, red, peach. Purple, I love,” said Hendricks, who attended the Ann Taylor bash with her Zara-clad husband, actor Geoffrey Arend.

The hourglass-figured actress certainly knows how to accentuate her assets. “I’m pretty good about accessing something on the rack and knowing whether it’s going to be flattering on me or not,” she said. “I always like to show my waistline. That’s something I think about when I get dressed.”

And even though critics called her peachy Christian Siriano Golden Globes gown a fashion misstep, Hendricks stands by it. “It was my favorite dress in the whole world,” she said, “and I felt gorgeous.”

While Hendricks was happy to discuss her style, she kept mum about the upcoming season of “Mad Men,” except to say that she’s returning to work in two weeks.

“There are going to be some big changes,” she said. “I met with the writers, talked to Matt Weiner and got the scoop. It’s going to be good — it’s going to be really good.”

We can’t wait!

I can appreciate that she loves all of those peaches and pinks, but those are truly not the right colors for her. She should stick to purples and blues and greens, which she is consistently dressed in on Mad Men. They make her look like a million bucks on that show, and she should consider asking the Mad Men costumers to make her some clothes for red carpets, honestly.

Second sidenote: You know how everyone was making a big deal about Gaby Sidibe and the alleged Vogue cover? How about we start a movement to get Christina a Vogue cover? I would love to see that!

    What a stunning woman.

I’m so glad she and Grace Kelly currently have spots on the front page. 3,000% improvement over the usual.

  2. gg says:

She means, show your waist, if you have one.

  3. imo says:

She is totally my girl crush, her body is HOT. More posts on her please, like just a collage of pics would be nice LOL

  4. Kimberly says:

That line where Christina mentions how she didn’t realize how curvy she is until people started mentioning it to her , I believe her because I didn’t think much of my hourglass figure with an ample bosom and backside until It was mentioned to me . I guess it wasn’t something that dawned on my because i was 16 at the time , and too busy being a tomboy .im 22 now and I just love my voluptuous body .

  5. EMV says:

She and her husband are so cute together. He is a hilarious actor in his own right too.

  6. snapdragon says:

much love for the christian siriano gown – she is gorgeous in it! as a small girl with small boobs & butt, i would love to have her curves. so feminine and soft.

  7. buckley says:

Freaking love Joanie…that is one lucky goofy looking guy…

  8. Gwen says:

I love her! And it’s a great tip for women with big boobs.

  9. lucy2 says:

I like her in bolder, darker colors too, she’s so pretty in a striking way, the bolder colors really compliment her. I kind of liked the Siriano gown but thought the color wasn’t a good match for her coloring.

She should start getting fashion covers!

  10. ThunderC*nt says:

Britteny, read lots of your posts last night b/retiring & I must say, comparing gorgeous Grace to this Mustang Ranch cocktail waitressy looking girl is INSANE! Pull your head out of there!

  11. Anons says:

    absolutely gorgeous.

  12. Eileen Yover says:

I’ve had Mad Men in my Netflix queue for months- I need to push it to the top because I’m in need of a new show to replace my precious Tudors! It’s their last season and I’m panicking!
Oh and she is fabulous! I love her braid with the black dress! You don’t see that every day!

  13. GaGa says:

I don’t get it why everyone is so nuts over this chick. She has an ugly face, pasty pale skin, and she is slightly overweight. I guess if you want to use her a poster girl for a “realistic body type” that’s cool. She does look like a “real” person, as opposed to a Hollywood actress, but I still don’t get all the hype.

  14. Eileen Yover says:

@GaGa-her features like pale skin and normal size along with great acting skills make her a stand out in a sea of rail thin bobble-head blondes. It’s nice to see. She’s not even close to being slightly overweight.

  15. lucy2 says:

Plus she plays one of the best characters on one of the best shows, and has so far as I can tell, handled her career with class.

  16. CeeCee12 says:

    She is absolutely gorgeous!
I am not saying it to prove a point about size or Hollywood.
I am just saying she is hot and sexy. It is so refreshing to see a woman with a luscious woman’s body getting attention.
I am seriously girlcrushing on her.

I like her creamy skin. I am so sick of orange people everywhere.

  17. canadianchick says:

Dear God-why couldn’t I have her body type please? Girl crushing **blush**

  18. debbie says:

I think she is the most gorgeous woman of all time! I agree that her pale skin…as opposed to fake tans…is so refreshing! I think she is absolutely stunning in whatever she wears! And her husband is so cute….I am so happy that she has such a great marriage. Leave her alone!

  19. Scout says:

Christina is gorgeous and she knows her stuff – if you are an hourglass figure, you MUST emphasize your waist. It is what defines your shape and makes your curves work! Love this woman – this couple, actually! I am so glad she does not feel pressure to transform into a stick figure and loves being all woman!

  20. Richi says:

    She’s Gorgeous!

  21. mojoman says:

She definitely defined the GOLDEN GLOBES alright..

  22. coconut says:

There you go again, Kaiser, dissing the blush-peach colors. ; ) My favorite image of her on this post is the blush-peach dress Siriano dress. I think that color *complements* her coloring and makes you look at *her* rather than the dress. With the darker dresses and the darker makeup you look at those things…I think there is too much contrast with those.

  23. andrea says:

as a major hourglass shape myself, i say she is right on – gotta have and show a nipped waist – she looks great in the peaches/pinks as well as the jewel tones. i think she can wear just about any color, save certain shades of yellow and beige. people make too big a deal out of what colors redheads and pale folks “can’t” wear. with the right makeup, etc, most people can wear most any color. i am olive skinned and need to watch out for the mustards and olive greens, but if my hair is in a reddish mode and makeup is warm, gold jewelry, it works.

  24. jmflynny says:

    Ugly face?

    Are you joking?

She has one of the most beautiful faces I’ve seen in many, many years.

  25. anna says:

    She needs a stylist.

  26. Brittney says:

Comparing two real women (one with a realistic, natural body and one with naturally beautiful face and style) means I need to pull my head “out of there”…? Sad.

  27. Davie says:

Undertaking some searching and noticed your internet site appears a little messed up in my K-meleon internet browser. But luckily hardly anybody makes use of it any lengthier but you may perhaps would like to appear into it.
