Trump’s response to Robert Mueller’s death: ‘Good, I’m glad he’s dead’

Photos of Robert Mueller in 2001 and in 2019
Over the weekend we learned that Robert Mueller passed away at age 81 on March 20, after a five-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Mueller was a Bronze Star and Purple Heart decorated Marine vet, an accomplished attorney, and the only FBI director since J. Edgar Hoover to serve over 10 years (Congress granted special permission for two extra years). It still blows my mind that Mueller’s tenure as FBI director began exactly one week before 9/11; I mean, can you imagine any of the incompetent clowns in this administration steering the helm in moments of national crises? Oh wait, we don’t have to imagine…

And speaking of the orange plague that is Donald Trump, Mueller will probably be most remembered for his 2019 namesake report, the result of his being made special counsel to look into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. These days, Dementia Don can’t remember the names of people, countries, or other nouns, but he definitely remembers the man who enumerated in 400+ pages how Trump conspired to commit a crime with Russia. And since Trump has the emotional maturity and public decorum of a psychotic preschooler, his response to the news of Mueller’s death was, “Good, I’m glad he’s dead.”

Mueller, who served as special counsel during the investigation into possible Russian interference in favor of Trump during the 2016 presidential election, died at 81 following a multi-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. He served as FBI director from Sept. 4, 2001, to Sept. 4, 2013.

Trump reacted to Mueller’s passing in a March 21 post on Truth Social that said: “Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

Former FBI unit chief Paul Bresson, who served under Mueller for 12 years, called Trump’s words “devastating,” adding that he “admired his integrity, professionalism, and humility.” Mueller, he told USA TODAY, “merits better.”

Here is more reaction to the president’s comments:

*Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer offered condolences to Mueller’s family, and said in a social media post: “The cruelty is the point. Trump’s goal is to distract you from rising gas prices, his aimless war, ICE abuses, and the Epstein files.”

*Michael Steele, a former head of the Republican National Committee, called Trump “a vile disgusting man. Petty and pathetic, you are a hypocrite who reeks of weakness and insecurities with no moral core.”

*Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Massachusetts — who like Mueller, is a former Marine — posted: “Whether you support the President or not, you know this comment is disgusting.”

*Republican Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska called Trump’s comments “wrong and unchristian behavior” in a text message to Politico, and said “the vast majority of Americans want better.”

*MAGA activist Laura Loomer defended Trump. “We shouldn’t be sad when bad people die,” she wrote.

*Longtime Trump ally Roger Stone, who was convicted of several felonies in the Mueller probe, wrote on X: “The judgement of Robert Mueller has moved to a much higher court.”

Trump and Mueller’s feud stems from the former FBI director’s investigation and his 2019 final report, which concluded that Russia had interfered in the 2016 election to help Trump. … Thirty-four people were indicted in Mueller’s Russia probe, including six former Trump advisers, 26 Russians, one California man, and a London-based lawyer. Seven, including five of the six former Trump advisers, pleaded guilty.

…In a statement obtained by USA TODAY, Mueller’s family said, “With deep sadness, we are sharing the news that Bob passed away last night. His family asks that their privacy be respected.”

[From USA Today]

I’m shocked… by anyone who’s genuinely shocked that this is how Trump responds to the news of someone’s death. And I say that not as a dig at the decent, empathic people of the world, but rather to illustrate the utter lows we’ve been taken to by that baby-fisted, feeble-minded, rotten collection of cells masquerading as a fully-cooked human. Not that I want to give Trump any kind of pass, either. But no, to see what a presidential memorial statement should look like, you cannot look to the current one. By contrast, Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush each made lovely, appropriate statements on Saturday paying tribute to the man who served them both as FBI director. Robert Mueller was a registered Republican, but had no problem, no hesitancy in putting country and the rule of law before any personal embiggening. The kids won’t believe this, but that’s actually how things used to be. The Mueller Report clearly showed Trump’s criminal behavior; if anything, the only failure with the report was Mueller’s belief that it was being delivered to a kind of traditional, functioning government not already gone with the hurricane.

So no, I’m not shocked by Trump’s callous remarks. But I am maddened by his utter disrespect. And, in all honesty, by the fact that Trump stole the line I was saving for the news of his own demise.

Thank you for your service, Robert S. Mueller III, and rest in peace.

i know when “that” day comes, there will be celebrations in cities all over the world that will put Carnival to shame. You know exactly who and what event Im talking about!

    • Inge says:

I saw a post on one of the socials saying they had a bottle of champagne in the fridge for when it happens, and everyone understood what they meant(&many were doing something similar)

      • Feeshalori says:

I’ve had a bottle of sparkling wine in my fridge for nearly the past year, waiting for that much anticipated day.
My dad, a Navy veteran serving in World War II, also died from Parkinson’s at 83, a truly horrible disease. RIP Mr. Mueller, you were a credit to your country.

      • TN Democrat says:

I have a bottle of champagne, fishnets and a red dress ready to go… The ride and die magats are just so creepy. People had their lives ruined for telling the truth about the gummy racist with the weird wife while they are fine with their tangerine false idol posting much worse multiple times daily. The hypocrisy is just staggering. It will be interesting to see the combo of cult hysteria, indifference and glee when fast food finally clogs his black heart permanently. Rest in power and peace, Mr. Mueller. Parkinson’s is a hard diagnosis. Condolences to his family.

  2. FancyPants says:

If only Donald could somehow see the worldwide celebrations that are going to erupt as soon as his own death is announced!

  3. Alice B. Tokeless says:

As we all know, there is a region in France called Champagne. When captain bone spurs pops his clogs, that region will be working round the clock to fill all the orders. Many of us will be fine with a sparkling wine or a good prosecco, but the occasion really will deserve the best. I strongly suggest going ahead and getting some now, put in the back of the fridge (out of sight, out of mind), so as to miss the inevitable global rush.

It wouldn’t hurt to start writing our own, pithy eulogies to post on the occasion of the great news. Two to three sentences should be good; we need to match his energy. I’m working on mine…

  4. lamejudi says:

The world will celebrate, dear Cheetolini. Counting the days…

  5. Becks1 says:

“We shouldn’t be sad when bad people die.”

    Duly noted.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Yes! And to think that people actually got fired for not being sad when Charlie Kirk died.

      • Lucy says:

The lawyer for some folks suing over wrongful termination for that issue posted he was going to enter this tweet into evidence. It shows that celebrating a political related death is fine.

If the big event happens at night, I think I want to be awakened, although realistically I’m the only one who stays up late 😂

      • Gabby says:

I’ll say it. CK is a big reason Trump won the 2024 election, and I’m glad he is no longer around to influence elections.

      • Blithe says:

@Lucy, not to worry. There will be car horns honking, cow bells clanking, fireworks whistling and exploding through the skies; the sounds of millions cheering all at once — worldwide— will be very hard to sleep through.

  6. RIP to a good God-fearing man says:

He did right by God and for that, he is resting in peace. The same cannot be said for anyone who lives their life breeding and fueling evil. RIP Robert Mueller III. You hold a special place in my heart. ♥️

  7. C-Shell says:

    Trump is a sh*tstained ghoul.

That said, the Vietnam War continues to kill our veterans and, no doubt, many Vietnamese who survived the war only to die from the literal fallout. Parkinson’s has been identified as one of the illnesses caused by Agent Orange, along with several others, including the cancer that took my Darling Husband. After 12 and a half years, I still miss that man like a hot coal in my heart.

My beloved step-father died, at last, two years ago from the Parkinson’s he’d suffered through for at least a decade. (He’d also developed the same cancer that killed my DH.) It was heart wrenching to watch his final months, weeks, days. The torture was relentless.

And Trump’s Veterans Administration is as incompetent as every other last agency in the Executive. Fuck them.

  8. Amy Bee says:

All those people who were fired for not properly mourning Charlie Kirk should be suing to get their jobs back.

  9. wordnerd says:

The only thing Trump will ever win rightfully and honestly is the most celebrated death. He’s worked hard for the mass celebration that’ll happen when his fat orange ass finally kicks the can.

  10. Elly says:

Robert Mueller was awarded a bronze medal and a Purple Heart. Bone spurs should shut his mouth.

    • QuiteContrary says:

And Mueller came from a privileged family — and VOLUNTEERED to serve in Vietnam.

Trump isn’t fit to polish Mueller’s medals (he’d probably steal them if he could).

  11. Theresa says:

So Lauraa Limer says we should not be sad when bad people die…then you won’t be offended when parties erupt in the streets celebrating the day the orange turd you idolize passes.

  12. Gabby says:

I can just see Trump waddling around in the middle of the night in his diaper, sticking out his tongue to say “NYAH” while typing his hateful message. Like any bratty toddler, he needs a massive time out.

  13. Blithe says:

I admire Robert Mueller for his life of true service to our country — in the face of unimaginable costs. May he Rest in Peace and Power.

  14. Jferber says:

Bastard. At least say nothing, like he did when Democrat politicians were murdered (2) and injured (2) by a politically driven psycho in Minnesota. Trump said he would not call Walz, governor of Minnesota. As President Obama said, cordiality is gone from the White House. But best believe when trump leaves this world, I will say the same thing about him. And I’ll add, “It should have been much sooner).

  15. Zee says:

May Robert Mueller rest in peace and those that praised his death will also meet the same path and celebration.

  16. Lady D says:

I had a lot of respect and admiration for Mr. Mueller. He always struck me as so upright, honest, decent and a true gentleman. R.I.P. Sir. You were a rare breed and this Canadian will miss you.

  17. Monc says:

Don-old man… Pepe will be saying more than “good…” when it’s your turn….

  18. paintybox says:

Says the man who holds his bible upside down. Fake Christian, fake businessman, fake adult, fake president.
