King Charles ‘has invited’ Beatrice & Eugenie to Ascot, which will infuriate his heir

Princess Eugenie and Beatrice are now being openly used as pawns in the war between Prince William and King Charles. It’s fascinating and petty and really eye-opening. My interpretation of recent events is that Prince William threw a tantrum about the family gathering at Windsor Castle for Easter Sunday. Most likely, William made his Easter attendance contingent on Charles “banning” Beatrice and Eugenie from church. William then took credit for these machinations, with “sources” claiming that B&E’s church-ban proves that the king is dying and William is in charge, and that William wants B&E banned from EVERY event. Well, not so fast! Remember how William was also throwing very loud tantrums about how Beatrice and Eugenie needed to be banned from Ascot this year? It’s another situation where William is seemingly threatening his father and making Will & Kate’s attendance contingent on a total York-princess ban. Now “sources” say that Charles plans to happily welcome his nieces at Ascot.

The King has invited Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s daughters to join him at Royal Ascot. Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie’s appearance at the racing extravaganza would be a huge show of support from the Royal Family.

It came after it emerged they would swerve the traditional Easter service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. This Sunday’s service will see the first big royal gathering since damaging claims against their parents Andrew and Sarah Ferguson in the Epstein Files.

But Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 36, could appear in the official carriage procession and Royal Enclosure at Ascot, Berks, during June’s five-day meeting. Beatrice’s husband Edo Mapelli Mozzi and Eugenie’s husband Jack Brooksbank may also join them.

Sources close to King Charles say he remains fond of Beatrice and Eugenie. They added the sisters will be allowed to attend future Royal Family events.

One said: “All the signs are they’re not being judged on the sins of the parents.”

Neither Beatrice nor Eugenie, has visited exiled Andrew, 66, in Sandringham since he was evicted from Royal Lodge amid claims over his links to paedophile and sex trafficker Epstein.

[From The Sun]

My guess is that Charles has multiple reasons for all of this. One, part of the deal Charles worked out with Prince Andrew last year included B&E’s royal status remaining unchanged, and Charles is trying to adhere to that agreement. Two, Charles is clearly pushing back on William’s uncouth, macabre briefings about Charles’s health. Three, Charles is really challenging William, if my theory is correct. William is threatening not to attend Ascot if his cousins attend. Charles is like “that’s fine, you hate it and you only go for one day anyway.” Meanwhile, Beatrice and Eugenie actually love going to Ascot and they attend multiple days. As I said, some really fascinating moves are being made in this dumb, attritional war between king and heir.

Imagine the tantrums at forest lodge . The keens will be super upset

100% Peg’s actions (and outlook) are not rational. I feel like only daily intensive therapy is going to stabilize this forty-something toddler. But they’re British. Even with the fate of an ancient hierarchy hanging in the balance, they won’t make the hard choice. Bigotry and entitlement will do them in.

    • irisrose says:

I can hear the screams from Mustique now. Poor poor Carole won’t get to prance around Ascot either.

  2. It’s a shame he couldn’t push back on his spoiled heir and make up with his second son Harry! Now that would push the heir into a violent tantrum!! If I were the York sisters I would lay low!

    • Amy Bee says:

When it came to Harry, Charles and William were on the same page. They didn’t want Harry married to Meghan and wanted her to leave the UK.

  3. Who Were These People? says:

Don’t you want to just snip off that darn tassel from Eugenie’s hat (top)?

    • Eliza says:

Is that tassel from her high school graduation? Is she the only one who ever attained a high school diploma?

    • irisrose says:

Like the awful white bow/ribbon Diana once wore hanging down next to her face (green and white outfit?). Second time she wore it, she had removed the bow.

  4. Mary grace says:

Billy is notoriously a control freak and extremely bossy so this won’t go down well at all

  5. s808 says:

why is W insistent on pushing B&E out of the picture? He and K will need the help and he likes control. I know he remembers what happened the last time he pushed away someone he needed

    • Betsy says:

I just don’t think he’s bright enough to grasp any of that (bright, sober, cognitively well, whatever), and it’s not like there are any consequences being enforced for him never working. It doesn’t bother him if the royal family is functionally dissolved and they go back to being just regular aristos. They’ve all probably got millions squirreled away, plus their properties.

  6. Jais says:

So William isn’t running things after all? LOL. Oh well guess the Wales can’t go this year.

    • Me at home says:

Haha, Charles is calling the shots, who woulda thunk it. Wonder how Sykes will fail, as usual, to spin this.

  7. Amy Bee says:

I’d be surprised if they’re at any royal event this year.

    • Jais says:

Who? The York sisters or the Wales? I’d guess that if Charles has invited them to ascot they will go. They will not be getting invites when it’s just William that’s for sure.

  8. Hypocrisy says:

If the king and his heir could keep the tabloid war between themselves and leave the Sussex’s alone it would be great.. I personally find their power struggle and all these contradictory headlines rather childish and very unprofessional. I don’t know how you take them seriously when this is the crap they continue to do.

  9. Becks1 says:

Re: Easter. Here’s what i think happened. I think William tried to throw his weight around and bully B&E to stay away, insisting to Charles he and Kate wouldn’t attend if they were there. I think Charles wants William there not for press coverage or anything like that, but because Charles is reading the same headlines we are and the same commentary we are about William’s religious leanings, and he thinks William needs to be seen at church on Easter Sunday.

So my guess is someone called up B&E and was like “you know it might be awkward….” and they were both like whatever we have other plans, we’re going to an easter egg hunt in Portugal, BYE! So basically there were no hard feelings.

but Charles was never on board with banning them from Ascot and is making it clear here that they will be invited. If that means William refuses to go then he refuses to go and Charles probably prefers that.

  10. Giddy says:

I feel positive that the powers that be in Britain look at all these childish maneuvers and shake their heads. What will happen to the monarchy when William the Vindictive has actual power? It’s a very good thing that the age when the king could imprison his enemies in the Tower of London is over. William would have a whole list of candidates.

    • Neeve says:

Lol I always say Thank God William wasn’t around that time. He reminds me of Leonardo Dicaprio in The Man in the Iron mask.

  11. YankeeDoodles says:

I have to say, I’m liking Charles more and more each day. He might be a self-absorbed, obtuse, thin-skinned, addled, entitled, pompous ass, but he’s not malicious. When faced with a dilemma that requires him to be the bigger man, he usually makes the right call. I’ll admit it. No one is all black or white.

    • Tessa says:

He should have put scoots in his place years ago. He could stop being malicious to harry and Meghan and speak out against their abuse by the media. And give the sussexes full security

    • Mairzy Doats says:

Unfortunately for Charles, Harry has made living outside the royal family (and family business) a possibility, so I wonder if the stories of Bea and family moving to America, etc. and both sisters living elsewhere outside of the royal circle didn’t prompt Charles to take a stand. He’s smart enough to know that banishment means he would no longer have any hold over them.

    • Becks1 says:

Uhhh, being a bigger man and making the right call would mean that he stops blocking his son from having security and being able to visit with his family. Or openly supporting Invictus. Or not taking Frogmore Cottage away. etc.

  12. sunniside up says:

Charles sticking up for them is the most amusing thing of the day so far. William is vindictive.

  13. fwiw says:

Maybe it is Kate. If she & William are going to Easter services, delaying leaving for school holiday, then she demands no Beatrice & Eugenie there. But for Ascot, she doesn’t plan to go anyway, so B & E can go.

  14. M says:

    I think I hear screaming from Mustique…

  15. Eurydice says:

Sigh, these royal family feuds have become so petty now that beheading, poisoning and imprisonment in the Tower of London are off the table.

  16. Magdalena says:

“Neither Beatrice nor Eugenie, has visited exiled Andrew, 66, in Sandringham since he was evicted from Royal Lodge amid claims over his links to paedophile and sex trafficker Epstein.”

But wasn’t there a report just a couple of days ago that Beatrice had visited her father in secret? So which is it?

  17. TN Democrat says:

The smear campaign against the York sisters has been particularly gross because it has been used to deflect from their parents grifts/criminal behavior and the fact that the left behinds actively protected Andrew until a few months ago by smearing the Sussexes. Charles needs to read the room and set Camilla loose on Willy. The sycophantic press Willy has enjoyed for the last decade needs to end and he needs put on blast from every angle. He can reap what he has sown. The more Willy smears the York sisters, the more obvious his ongoing smear campaign against the Sussexes becomes. Come on, Cams! Use small words, talk slow and make sure Willy at least learns what the Streisand effect is and develops a healthy respect for consequences the next time he leaks embiggening articles about when he is king soon.

  18. QuiteContrary says:

LOL at Charles being like, “Willy, my boy, you’ve made it clear that you hate Ascot — so I’m inviting your cousins, who actually want to be there.”

If only Charles could take a similar stand on behalf of his son, Harry.

  19. Binny says:

I wonder if the Establishment is seriously considering removing Prince Joffrey from the line of succession. He is too damaged to be a viable monarch. Maybe they will ask Prince Harry to be Regent until Prince George comes of age. That’s the problem. Who can take William’s place.

  20. YankeeDoodles says:

So. This is to @Binny. I have wondered this many times. I wonder the same thing about Trump, tbh. I have concluded in Trump’s case there is a reason he is being kept around, he serves a purpose, as a frontman for the deep state he claims to despise. It’s a bad cop / good cop routine. William? ….there were stories the late Queen warned him off his helicopter, which, if true, can be interpreted on a spectrum ranging from benign to pointed. But then a couple of months ago there was an intruder found on the grounds of William’s apartment at Kensington Palace who’d infiltrated his space, passing his security. Then. A few nights later, it happened *again* to which my only reply is, either this was a training exercise designed to beef up his close protection, or, someone is seriously f*cking with him. I think there are generally two elements of state-based sanction, one of which is stripping security, to create either opportunity or plausible deniability, and the second of which is staging provocations so it appears that this was just a case of someone getting lucky, that there was a pattern of attempts, and that, whoops, one of them wasn’t thwarted as many others had been. But, yes, he’s a candidate for removal. They don’t have a 25th Amendment. Sadly. He would be a prime candidate. Imagine if someone behaved like this in real life. Loony bin time.

  21. Digital Unicorn says:

LOLz all day – given all the press around how Pegs was proud to be behind getting them banned and Chuck turns around and is ‘please come’ is A game trolling from the King. Someone isn’t going to like being humiliated like this.
